When you were 18 and going Out Out, what was your favourite outfit?

Mum has just sent me a photo of me going Out Out approximately 10 years ago.

I had a giant windswept fringe that took a whole can of hairspray, a H&M floral skater dress with a tiny belt and cardigan, bare legs, Converse and a cross body bag.

Underneath the fringe there's rings of eyeliner and Maybelline Great Lash Grin

I think at this point I thought I looked like Alexa Chung Grin

1988:

I'm wearing either a tiny black mini skirt, black opaques and a black turtle neck, with Woolwoths PE pumps, or a bright pink, crushed velvet, backless mini dress with opaques and DMs., or a black boob tube, black lace maxi skirt and DMs. Probably with pigtails.

Airplanes · 28/03/2020 21:58

@Wavescrashingonthebeach it wasn't until you suggested it. I'd give you 10 toilet rolls for one of those belts right now

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 28/03/2020 22:02

@airplanes

Make it 15 and i will throw in a white gypsy skirt, smock top, and some wedges too.
Lets get our sunshimmer on and go back to summer 05!!

Early 1990s. Usually just black jeans and a fairly low cut top with heeled boots, though sometimes a very, very short black dress. Apparently I mainly wore black at night, though not especially during the day. I never wore makeup though I did wear very high heels - and almost always walked home barefoot carrying my shoes and somehow never cut my feet...

StinkyWizzleteets · 28/03/2020 22:11

Either tiny denim hot pants, band T-shirt and doc martens (sometimes thigh high docks &suspenders sometimes none) or cut off combats, crop T-shirt/vest and trainers... no make up. Sometimes brushed my hair 😂 I didn’t really do dressed up, even for out out.

Airplanes · 28/03/2020 22:13

@Wavescrashingonthebeach we have ourselves a deal. We're going to look stunning

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 28/03/2020 22:26

PertEllaTitsahoy · 28/03/2020 22:40

Knee high boots, thick black tights, mini kilt and a lace blouse thing with a wonder bra underneath

MichaelBoobins · 28/03/2020 22:50

Usually a brightly coloured dress with a belt around the waist, cardigan, black tights and Vans or dolly shoes. Always had an across body bag! Hair was similar to yours with a big sweepy fringe but with short layers that I backcombed and some awful brightly coloured extensions. Make up was black eyeliner and Barry M glitter eyeshadow.

At 18 I was sort of transitioning from indie to emo so kind of mixed the two 😂

SingingSands · 28/03/2020 22:57

90s spaghetti strap mini dress, strappy sandals, long military style coat.

Or, tiny boob tube and tight flared trousers, strappy sandals.

A lot of what I wore in the 90s can now be found in Urban Outfitters. I swear my daughter just bought a pair of velvet paisley print flares that I actually used to own.

fannyanney · 28/03/2020 23:05

Tiny tiny skirt. Kitten heels, a 'nice' top. Fishnet tights or some sort of fancy lace like patterned tights. Around 2005

Jellykat · 28/03/2020 23:12

18 in 1981, so blue and black spiked hair, skin tight pencil skirt, fishnets, winkle picker buckle boots, big belts, black fingernails, corset and Souxsie make up.. hours to get ready, loads of fun!

MsPepperPotts · 28/03/2020 23:19

70's
Faded Bell Bottom Jeans, Metallic Blue Platform shoes(can't be seen as jeans cover shoes) wide collar shirt and tank top.

MrsCastiel · 28/03/2020 23:23

Mid to late 90s.

Choice of establishment - big nights out at The Ritz in Manchester, occasional nights out at Chicago Rock in Northampton and weekly nights out around Warrington in Eddisons and Mr Smiths.

Hair in an up do, tiny sparkly butterfly clips placed with precision.

Burgundy Halter neck belly top and cream hipster, bell-bottom trousers from Dorothy Perkins. silver thin strapped high heels.

There was a phase of spaghetti strap tops with wide trousers that had a skirt stitched over them. I truly thought I was the bees knees in that outfit.

I'd be wearing (mid 90s) sunflowers or Tommy girl and late 90s Cerruti 1881 or Anais Anais.

CalleighDoodle · 29/03/2020 09:12

God i forgot about all the hair clips.

Hippymama · 29/03/2020 09:44

Two outfits spring to mind. I turned 18 towards the end of 1996 and it was at the point that I was allowing my hair to run riot in its natural curly state so I had mad curls.

Tiny skirt, platform shoes, tight v necked top.

Long jersey black skirt, purple stretchy top, black velvet jacket, docs. I had a few of these velvet jackets. A couple were originally my dad's from the 70s (in navy and green!) and the others I procured from the charity shop / Afflecks Palace.

Gwynfluff · 29/03/2020 09:51

18 in 1992 - height of Madchester indie. DMs, black tights, mod second hand 60s dress (we didn’t call it vintage then) bought at a charity shop or Afflecks Palace. Army jacket on - always went out in a coat and put it in the cloakroom at the club

KenzoBaby · 29/03/2020 10:39

In 2001 as an 18 year old, I wore a pink corset from New Look, pinstripe black trousers from Next, sparkly butterfly wings from Claire's accessories. And sparkly green eyeshadow (like Sophie Ellis Bextor). Can't really remember what I wore on my feet. Probably high heels from New Look. A much more innocent look, I must say, than teenagers these days wearing these "slut dresses" (their words, not mine) and a face-full of make-up.

KenzoBaby · 29/03/2020 10:41

Oh and sometimes I replaced the pin stripe trousers with very low cut rise flared jeans a la Britney and a big pink belt. Some of my chums wore a their thong visible above it.

OldUnit · 29/03/2020 10:43

Let's not go back, eh? I probably looked like Daisy Mucklowe off of This Country.

StrawberryTarts · 29/03/2020 10:47

I was a raver. Hot pants & a bra top or a tiny mini dress...with trainers! Long, loose hair. Red lipstick. Heavy application of Coco Chanel.

nowlook · 29/03/2020 11:03

Orange a-line mini skirt; stretchy satin top that looked like a corset (but wasn't); faux snakeskin strappy heels (Jonathan James); huge cropped fur coat, which for some reason I insisted on wearing every evening when I went on holiday with my parents to Turkey that summer.

Mid-90s. Marvellous.

ScorpionQueen · 29/03/2020 11:07

90s
Mesh black top
Wonderbra
Jeans
Or very short floral dresses and dms

willowmelangell · 29/03/2020 21:24

Black pencil skirt, big white shirt(tucked in) red pleather narrow tie and matching pleather belt. Fishnets and stiletto heels.
Lipcote over Twilight Teaser lipstick.
I looked great( until I tried to climb the train step and had to wriggle the tight skirt right up my thighs)Grin
