Have you aged ten years overnight on a supermarket website?
Are you sticking to the 'two sheets' rule?
Have you had it with singing celebrities?
Are you yearning for what we will now call The Before Times?

If you've answered yes to any of the above, here's where you come to post threads about Naice Things - like ham and cats. Where The Virus That Must Not Be Named (TVTMNBM) is off-limits.

We'll do our best to keep the corona-free zone moderated - you do your best to chill out and gather strength. Flowers Brew

Keep using the normal boards for normal stuff, but here's where to come if you need a break. We're hoping everyone will see the value of having somewhere to get away from it all.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I have a beautifully-coloured honesty called Corfu Blue. I think it's a much prettier colour than the various pinks and mauves that it normally comes in. Did you know that it's edible? It's in the cabbage family and the leaves can be eaten young, but I just use the (scented!) flowers in spring salads. The seeds can be used as a mustard substitute.

That's gorgeous Womble

MinnieMountain · 12/04/2020 20:57

Nooo. You lot are making me need to buy more seeds. Are we sure no one here works for a garden supply company? [suspicious face]

PurpleBlueAnemone · 12/04/2020 21:20

That is a lovely colour.

I love nasturtiums and have a few which seem to have been growing since last year. I also have lobelia which has survived all winter.
I will need to look for seeds on my next supermarket trip.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2020 22:05

The seeds I ordered recently have been dispatched - they include cosmos and nasturtiums.

Coldhandscoldheart · 13/04/2020 07:23

I’m going to try planting out my courgette and squash as they’re taking over the window sill. I think it’s maybe still a bit early, so I’m going to try rigging up some sort of green-housing with clear plastic. Also the two tomatoes that have come up need to be put into separate pots, so I’ll see if my fat thumbs can manage without squishing them.

An I ask where people are ordering their seeds from please? Sites I have been on have been sold out or very long wait times.

Roussette · 13/04/2020 16:22

Love the easter ears for the alpacas!
Haven't been up to see mine lately because I had this delight last week... one of the highland cows near me had just had a baby and was resting under a tree. He looked so sweet and fluffy.

Easter Bunny on lockdown?

I ordered from Thompson &morgan on March 29th, email 2 days ago to say they've been dispatched so hopefully will arrive this week. I'm pretty sure that's slower than usual. I only ordered flower seeds, they had everything I wanted , But I think some of the veg might have been out of stock.

TSSDNCOP · 13/04/2020 17:07

The Easter Bunny is so last year. Look how much cuter the Easter Alpaca is. And he clearly exists!!!!!!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/04/2020 17:49

Have to admit - the Easter Alpaca has a certain je ne sais quoi. . .

DanglyTasselsOfThigh · 14/04/2020 06:27

I had same experience as you at first Rose, no seeds to be found.

I ended up getting mine from
eBay

I love the Easter Alpacas! 😍

The zonkey is very cute @ErrolTheDragon.

I've got to write 4 rounds of a quiz for Saturday. Can you lovely people inspire me? Nothing related to "celebs".

Sissymate2 · 16/04/2020 15:30

@SchadenfreudePersonified
Love your Easter windows...much better than the commercial version...you had to put a lot of yourself into making them 💯
And that Jacob is adorable guarding the window..i love to see doggies peeping out of windows.

And I am enjoying all the garden photos...so colorful and uplifting in spite of our circumstances.

I've never heard of Honesty..sounds perfect for my purple- blue garden...
.@ErrolTheDragon, I'm with you...no such thing as too much purple/blue in gardens!
Photos of forget-me-not and lobelia

I have to applaud you lot who grow plants from seeds....I've NEVER had even a teeny bit of luck growing anything proper from a seed..have to buy starter packs from the nursery..except those sweet pea flowers which don't count because they are wild and I didn't even plant them...i just harvested the seeds from the SPs I found growing on a hillside in the spring and literally threw handfuls of seeds all around my gardens... They will literally grow out of a pile of leavesGrin

sissy I'm glad I'm not the only one. I am just not green fingered!

Sissymate2 · 16/04/2020 17:07

@MinnieMountain
I'd love to help but not quite sure what kind questions you need

MinnieMountain · 16/04/2020 20:22

I've never grown flowers from seed. My tomatoes, peas and sweetcorn seem to have sprouted okay.

I never knew purple and blue was such a popular colour scheme. We've also got grape hyacinths, a blue rose (gone pinky) and bluebells.

I've run out of room on my side of the garden, so I've ordered some flower seeds to casually sprinkle around DH's side Grin

MinnieMountain · 16/04/2020 20:23

Waitrose Garden are also selling btw but they have a limit on orders each day.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/04/2020 07:55

Your wildlife garden is lovely Sissy.

Unfortunately a garden full of dogs widdling everywhere is not conducive to rich vegetation, so we have quite a few bare patches ...

:(

I like blue/purple flowers - I read somewhere that bees prefer them. Don't know if it's true or not, but it was a motivator for me.

Roussette · 17/04/2020 08:59

@MinnieMountain

Yes! On the quiz, just perfecting mine for Tuesday. This is Uni friends of DD and the parents, and they're a bright lot! Last Tuesday's quiz was hard, mine will be a bit more pub quiz!

One of my fave categories I looked up... was quotes from films, name the film then the actor who said it. (NOT the film character which is easy).
For instance...
“They say money can’t buy you happiness, darlings.” Actor Rami Malek. Film Bohemian Rhapsody

Another category was I made a note of famous people birth date and death, and the quizzers have to just name a year when they were alive. So for instance...
Napolean Bonaparte 1769 - 1821.
Any year in that time range would be a point.

You can make that as easy or hard as you like!

Also did a category on beers of the world. You have to say which country they are from.

Sorry, everyone, I'm sure this is totally irrelevant to the thread, hope that helps!
