Have you aged ten years overnight on a supermarket website?
Are you sticking to the 'two sheets' rule?
Have you had it with singing celebrities?
Are you yearning for what we will now call The Before Times?

If you've answered yes to any of the above, here's where you come to post threads about Naice Things - like ham and cats. Where The Virus That Must Not Be Named (TVTMNBM) is off-limits.

We'll do our best to keep the corona-free zone moderated - you do your best to chill out and gather strength. Flowers Brew

Keep using the normal boards for normal stuff, but here's where to come if you need a break. We're hoping everyone will see the value of having somewhere to get away from it all.

Thanks,
MNHQ

@theoriginalmadambee
Princess Gracie is happy that you like her pearls and is honoured to be thought of when you hear that phrase.

I laughed right out loud at your description of how you saved the birthday dinner...sounds just like my cooking experiencesGrin
Last week I was craving what we Americans call a " pound cake"...haven't made one in 40 years because all the ingredients cost an arm and a leg....I pulled the mouthwatering delicacy out of the oven (actually a bit early because I didn't want it to get too brown, you know) and let it set a few minutes. oh, it looked so good...I could hardly contain myself as the top of said cake was a delicate golden brown...
When I turned it out of the cake pan I got the most disappointing shock!!! The sides and the bottom weren't brown they were solid BLACK! but the shape looked like it could've been in a magazine....I should have taken a photo as I've never seen such a thing....I knocked on it a couple times and it was as hard as a rock...into the bin it went...which I guess was a good thing because I was preparing to eat the entire thing.
Had to be my oven's fault! I guess even ovens aren't happy being overused during these hard times. Probably the same with yours madambeeGrin

Is it a good idea or not to plant wild garlic in a pot then or will it take over the garden anyway? I picked some roots yesterday

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/04/2020 09:40

She IS gorgeous, Sissy!

Minne - gay dog show, you say ? . . .

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/04/2020 09:42

..into the bin it went...

NOOooooooOOOOOoooooOOOOoooooooo!

The birds (and this particular MNer) aren't too fussy. We'd have et it!

Sad
theoriginalmadambee · 05/04/2020 10:37

Oh no Sissymate2 are you sure it was solid? I would have worked my way in from the top just to see if I could find something edible 😂.

I imagine the birds and SchadenfreudePersonified fight over throw out cake in her neck of the woods 😂.

Off to google gay dog show...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/04/2020 12:04

It's not a pretty sight, watching me kick chaffinches off a birdtables, madambee

I'd definitely put it in a pot rather than into a bed from what I've heard. I've no idea if it's likely to propagate from seed so maybe take the flower head off when it's gone over to be on the safe side?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/04/2020 14:20

Errol

I'm told its very invasive, and I can believe it, the way it flourished wildy at first, and has now come back after being devoured! Shock

I originally put mine in a pot because I couldn't make my mind up where to plant it, but it seems `I was wise.

theoriginalmadambee · 05/04/2020 14:24

rose and errol what a good idea buying the garlic plants or sowing them. Our backyard is bordering on woods (a wood?) but I don't dare pick anything not obvious.

Our garden has the loveliest mushrooms in the autumn some years. Had someone knowledgeable take a look, some of them were destroying angels Confused. Put me right of.

@Sissymate2 better start knitting this for princess Gracie Grin.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2020 14:34

I'd never dare to forage for mushrooms, for sure.

I'm not sure whether digging up wild garlic is technically legal (though in practice if there's loads I can't imagine it being a problem) but there are some online suppliers - no idea what this company is like just the top google hit.
I do like the common name 'ramsons'.

RosesandIris · 05/04/2020 14:43

i've planted some in a pot, taken from nearby woods.

That's fun, they are called ramsløg here - rams onion Grin.

theoriginalmadambee · 05/04/2020 14:51

We are going to make burgers tonight, had to bake the buns myself. Getting quite fed up of baking Hmm.

I have to admit I'm not sure whether I technically broke the law when I purloined a random bulb - in my defence, the carpet of garlic was tick and covered almost all of the woodland floor.

I did look very shifty - squinting both ways etc and then sauntering off, whistling nonchalantly.

I don't make a habit of decimating woodlands, I hasten to add. Grin

RosesandIris · 05/04/2020 16:54

Oh for goodness sake.
It grows like weeds. Have you never heard of foraging? Sorry can’t find the post now about not being sure if it was legal.

MinnieMountain · 05/04/2020 17:05

I would dig it up if I could find some wild garlic. I'm a solicitor and I've always been a good two shoes Halo

MinnieMountain · 05/04/2020 17:05

*goody ffs

I've not visited here, for a while. Glad it's still upbeat!
DH and I went out for dinner again last night in our holiday home, it was lovely!
The holiday home is our Motorhome parked on our drive, so we dressed up, I cooked dinner for us in there and then watched Pink Floyd DVDs
Roll on next Saturday, it's going to be a weekly treat for us.

@theoriginalmadambee
Sorry I didn't answer back right away....I was busy trying to dig through the bin looking for my cake so I could feed it to the birds. The ants beat me to it🐜🐜🐜🐜.

I got a hardy laugh when I pictured the both of you rooting around in my blackened masterpiece trying to find an edible part!😂😂😂😂

That gay dog show is hilarious! I've already made Princess Gracie a tutu for the show...as you can see from the photo she is not too impressed...she was actually very upset with me because I wouldn't let her help me stitch it together. When I wasn't looking she pulled the netting onto the floor and sat on it...She's a cheeky monkey, that one!

Here's a photo of my wild sweet peas that Gracie help me pick. They aren't wild anymore because I grow them on my garden...all I do is gather the seeds after they've finished blooming in the summer and then throw out handfuls of seeds in the Fall.I don't even have to plant them..They smell ever so delightful!
Btw, the strangest thing keeps happening to this vase that I got at an estate sale...when wet it bleeds bright pink. The bottom says that it is Delft and Holland and also Gouda...maybe it is a cheap knockoff?🧐 Anyone ever seen this before?

Those are gorgeous - I adore sweet peas. I planted some seeds a couple of weeks ago, they're just starting to come through now. I ordered more last weekend along with some other flower seeds, hope they come soon!

MinnieMountain · 06/04/2020 07:41

Beautiful sweet peas @Sissymate2. They were the flowers at our wedding. DH's aunt even made sugar ones to decorate our cake.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/04/2020 08:46

Sweetpeas are gorgeous!

And your vase is obviously haunted . . .
