I’ve just spilt homemade tomato soup on my mainly white duvet cover. I’ve got the sauce off and covered the stain in diluted bio washing liquid and put it in a cold wash immediately. If this doesn’t work is there anything I can do?
It was my Valentine’s Day present (asked for) and the first nice duvet cover I’ve ever had...
Sorry for the utterly riveting thread

Is it cotton? Put it on the hottest wash on your machine, if it’s 100% cotton it will be fine. Add some vanish if you have it.

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 01:52

It’s in a cold one now, and I can’t atop the machine. I was worried heat would set the stain. If it’s still stained when it comes out I’ll try a hot. It’s thus pattern so I’m hoping if it comes to it I can bleach the affected bits

Get it out in the sunshine. Even a dreary cold day with a little sun will help. The sun does magical things to tomato stains!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 11/03/2020 01:59

Nope it’s dead, mourn it and move on, or wash it and accept it for being flawed

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 02:04

Reckon a UV nail lamp will have a similar effect to the sun? Genuinely devastated, took all the joy out of my soup too

Hot water is for protein-based stains. Use cold water.

NeckPainChairSearch · 11/03/2020 02:11

Oh bad luck OP. It's the combination of tomatoes and olive oil that make things stain-y apparently. If you washed it pretty much immediately, I'm hopeful you'll be okay. Agree that the sun will help if that's possible...

I have no real advice, just sympathizing really!

LucaFritz · 11/03/2020 02:25

Vanish oxi action spray! Has removed many a poonami from DS's sleepsuits so far Grin and only use cold water as you said heat sets the stain

FortunesFave · 11/03/2020 02:26

Yes you were right to use cold water. I got a spice stain from curry out of DD"s new white top with cold water....ALMOST....and then a day on the line and it was gone!

Update us after it comes out!

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 02:32

You have all given me a little bit of hope, I shall update you in due course

Good luck OP. I am a bit of a duvet cover collector GrinBlush and have a few with stains which irrationally annoy me!

finn1020 · 11/03/2020 02:37

It may not come out white again on that wash if it was a massive stain. Whatever you do don’t machine dry it, instead smear pure washing power/liquid onto it and leave it for a few hours, then wash it again. If that doesn’t work smear it again with whatever products you can buy in the UK that are for keeping whites white - we have napisan where I live. But don’t tumble dry it if it’s still stained as it will set the stain.

anameIcallmyself · 11/03/2020 02:55

Do not use hot water. When your cover is dry put eucalyptus oil on the stain. Leave for a few mins then wash again in cold water.

Tisahardlife · 11/03/2020 02:57

I agree with getting tomato stains out in the sun, it's like magic Smile

InkogKneeToe · 11/03/2020 02:58

I have to ask...

Why were you flinging tomato soup around the bedroom to begin with?

FuckWhenDidIGetOld · 11/03/2020 03:01

I know it's not what you asked but Next seem to have it cheaper than the site on the pic above

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 03:03

Got it on sale for £40, can’t really justify replacing it, I’ll just have to live with the stain if jt comes to it. Thank you for looking though!

Put it in the sun

May take a few days

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/03/2020 03:14

Agree with putting it it out in the sun. Depending on where you live, the next few days are looking nice.

yourestandingonmyneck · 11/03/2020 03:14

@InkogKneeToe I would imagine she was eating it and accidentally spilt it, rather than "flinging it around".

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 03:19

Ooh I missed that one, honestly it’s a really delicious red pepper smoky tomato soup I made and I had a little ramekin of it cold to dip crackers into. I’m in a student house so tend to eat in my room. I went to sit on the bed and tripped

I like a bit of tomato soup flinging around once in awhile. Adds a bit of zest and flavour to my life.

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 03:28

No zest in my tomato soup, pulp perhaps? Not sure what you’d call chopped tomatoes to make them sound better

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 11/03/2020 03:34

What ingredients were in the soup?

I assume tomato, but what else?

Don't use the UV lamp.

FelicityBeedle · 11/03/2020 03:37

Tomato garlic onion red pepper onion paprika chicken and beef stock nigella seeds cumin Garam Masala coriander (ground).
From what I can remember
