I’ve just spilt homemade tomato soup on my mainly white duvet cover. I’ve got the sauce off and covered the stain in diluted bio washing liquid and put it in a cold wash immediately. If this doesn’t work is there anything I can do?
It was my Valentine’s Day present (asked for) and the first nice duvet cover I’ve ever had...
Sorry for the utterly riveting thread

If stain still visible after washing hang outside especially on a sunny day. Sunlight is a natural bleach. Works with tomato stains from bolognese sauce. Avoid bleaching agents as will fade any pattern/colours.

beanii · 12/03/2020 17:40

Try Elbow Grease spray - it gets rid of EVERYTHING.

Picoloangel · 12/03/2020 17:50

I often use hand soap on stains and it works a treat. For whites I always add a Glo White sachet and wash on the longest possible cycle. I’d do a v hot wash after the cold one. You could also try an appropriate Stain Devil - I find these v v good and you can use even after waking hasn’t shifted a stain. If all else fails it will fade with each wash. Have everything crossed for you OP. Go launder...

Neat washing up liquid rubbed in to the fabric and then washed in the machine will shift Bolognese sauce - give that a go? Good luck!

woodforwood · 12/03/2020 18:10

Gallseife soap. I get it on amazon as it’s hard to get. Wet the stain, rub it generously with the soap both sides, wash on 30/40. It’s gotten tomato, orange, curry and blood out of stuff. Good luck!

Weebleonaworkout · 12/03/2020 18:32

Soda crystal soak for a few hours with a bit of rubbing in then wash as normal. Cool wash though. Good luck op

Mmpip · 12/03/2020 18:41

DON'T use hot water as it will definitely set the stain. Protein needs cold water so you've done the right thing so far. If the stain isn't completely removed wait for a nice hot sunny day and leave it out in the sunshine. That should do the trick....

MrsDrudge · 12/03/2020 18:47

Vanish powder, mixed to a paste and left on overnight to soak in minimum water, and then washed per washing instructions removed pasta sauce from my white shirt. HTH with your duvet cover.
Any tips on Mrs Hinch etc?

MyHeartIsInCornwall · 12/03/2020 18:48

Another one for the sun 😆 If weather is bad I just leave items on a windowsill with the stained part facing up. Does the same trick after a few days.

Do people not bother to read threads before answering now 🤔

Cancel the cheque!

kasm · 12/03/2020 19:04

Leave it outside, might take a couple of days at this time of year but the sun is like black magic to tomato stains.

DrySnitch · 12/03/2020 19:06

🤦‍♀️

Huxley1234 · 12/03/2020 19:09

Dr beckmans pre wash and then then r stain remover. Full glass of red wine over duvet and mattress. Follow instructions and it should look like new.

Deyes999 · 12/03/2020 19:41

I use the Pink Stuff tub of paste you can get a home bargains for about £1. Rub it on the stain, leave it for 10 mins then rub it into the stain with you finger or a gentle nail brush, then put on a 60 degrees wash. Works on daughters white school shirts a treat.

Funguy · 12/03/2020 19:43

I got this amazing carpet cleaner made by HG off Amazon. I threw builders tea across my cream wool Laura Ashley rug. I have never had a nice rug before. Anyway it was incredible. Give it a go ?

UhKevin · 12/03/2020 19:46

DrySnitch apparently not. Lord above.

Angrywife · 12/03/2020 20:19

Elbow grease spray is brilliant for fabric stains x

Glb52 · 12/03/2020 20:34

Olive oil soap will get almost any stain out. Rub stain with soap whilst running under cold water.

Palaver1 · 12/03/2020 20:59

She got the stain out and has thanked everyone

hvkz · 12/03/2020 22:16

Another one in support of Vanish. (Just removed stains from pillow slips - though not as bad as tomato sauce.) Spray on. Leave for 5 mins. Then put in normal wash. (You might want to try cold wash first). Stain will probably still be apparent which will distress you (it did me). But then after I dried it (outside in the sun), I couldn't see the stain any more. Enormous relief !

Was also going to ask for recipe Grin

Glad your duvet is OK.

Aglet · 13/03/2020 07:47

If all else fails, get some Biotex stain remover. I used it to remove a curry stain.

ralfeesmum · 13/03/2020 10:46

Dilute bleach? Mind you that may cause irreparable damage, so maybe not.

I feel your (tomato soup) stain......
