I’ve just spilt homemade tomato soup on my mainly white duvet cover. I’ve got the sauce off and covered the stain in diluted bio washing liquid and put it in a cold wash immediately. If this doesn’t work is there anything I can do?
It was my Valentine’s Day present (asked for) and the first nice duvet cover I’ve ever had...
Sorry for the utterly riveting thread

Is there an update- I'm invested now

mumsmas1 · 11/03/2020 08:32

whatw were you doing with tomato soup on a duvet ?

Ireallymustgotobed · 11/03/2020 08:33

TheoriginalLEM There was one a couple of pages back. Stain came out.

I have often used dish or hand soap in a paste with bicarbonate of soda, leave for a few minutes then pour on some white vinegar, makes it fizz and gets down into the fabric.

nannybeach · 11/03/2020 08:40

Yeah, I want to know how on earth you spill home made tomato soup on a duvet cover!! Would have been worse, if it was shop bought, at least it wont be full of artifical colouring.

ThunderPython · 11/03/2020 08:55

OP was eating crackers dipped in a ramekin of cold, homemade, tomato soup. OP lives in student accommodation, hence sitting on the bed at 1am to eat said soup.

I'm glad this has a happy ending OP. Lovely bedding is one of my luxuries, like you I can only afford it when it's on sale!

dottiedodah · 11/03/2020 09:07

Well done OP .Glad stains all out now! Sometimes if you wash as soon as poss stops stain from "setting In" .Maybe try some mushroom soup in future!

Ginnyrellas · 11/03/2020 09:12

Id use a products called "ELBOW GREASE" It got dried in ink off my pearly white bucket chair with a sponge. My Husband is a trainer freak and likes his trainers to stay looking new. I use it on these as well and its never failed me yet. You can Get a bottle for 99p in savers, home bargains...

venus22 · 11/03/2020 09:32

Borax powder; make a paste with water and leave it on the stain several hours or overnight.
I spilled a huge quantity of blackcurrant sauce all down the front of a white dress when I worked in a restaurant, Borax removed the stain completely.

pastacaring · 11/03/2020 09:32

Diluted Milton liquid

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 11/03/2020 09:33

Sunshine. It’s the only thing I’ve found to remove red food stains

mnahmnah · 11/03/2020 09:39

Get some Napisan from the baby section of the supermarket or Boots. Works on any stain.

Clangus00 · 11/03/2020 09:46

The stain came out ages ago!

dudsville · 11/03/2020 09:49

HOORAY!!!!

Simonfromharlow · 11/03/2020 09:59

Hang it in sun. Also astonish do an amazing stain spray which gets tomato stains out of my kids school polo shirts

Beau20 · 11/03/2020 10:01

Was this post for real???

I boil wash my bedding every. single. time. 90 degree wash. 100% cotton. No issues. Any stains I chuck in some vanish oxy action powder. No need to over use bleach. Boil washing bedding and towels has always been common practice in my house to keep whites white and help kill bacteria.

Bless you OP - you have lived a sheltered life!

anon2020202020 · 11/03/2020 10:02

Milton sterilising fluid.

Branleuse · 11/03/2020 10:04

in a bucket with diluted bleach

MrsMcKitty · 11/03/2020 10:05

That soup sounds yummy. Glad you got the stain out.
To the poster with bagel and ketchup Confused

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/03/2020 10:14

Is 'the stain came out' the new 'cancel the cheque'?

Hedgehog26 · 11/03/2020 10:15

Put washing up liquid on it, soak then wash. Gets pasta sauce out of my DDs clothes even when it’s been tumbled

maslinpan · 11/03/2020 10:20

I will be using that recipe... But chicken AND beef stock??

Madcats · 11/03/2020 10:52

@FelicityBeedle great news about that duvet.

Can I trouble you for an approximate recipe for that soup? Admittedly I would be eating it hot, nowhere near a duvet, but it sounded yummy.

Whatevah · 11/03/2020 10:53

Beau20 you are making yourself look like a superior ninny.
