I have no grandparents left, my last died when I was 27. Yet I know someone who is almost 30 and has all of her grandparents still living. Can't help but feel a little jealous.

I am jealous of people who had grandparents. I never had any! I would have loved to have one grandparent.

My mother's two parents were dead before i was born.
My father refused to know me, and his parents also refused to know me.

About 26 or 27. My parents are both the younger siblings, my mum's mum was almost 40 when she had her which was unusual in the 1940s. Mum's dad died before I was born. On my dad's side, both grandparents lived into their early 80s but died when I was at Uni or shortly after.

I've only ever known 3 of my grandparents. My grandad died when I was 14 and grandma when I was 33. I'm 49 now and my 97 year old Nan is still going strong. We all joke that she will outlive us all, she's a tough old bird Smile

  1. Also lost both parents by 44.
babycakes1010 · 08/03/2020 11:03

I'm 35 this year and only have 1 left

angell84 · 08/03/2020 11:03

What is it like to have a grandparent?

WildRosie · 08/03/2020 11:03

Eleven. My Dad's mum was the only GP still alive by the time I was born.

TheGreatWave · 08/03/2020 11:04
  1. My grandad died a year before. My Dad's parents had both passed away before I and both my sisters were born.

None of them were particularly young.

igotdemons · 08/03/2020 11:04

I was 16 when my DNan died - she was 84 bless her. Both my DGrandad and her second husband died long before I was born. Both my other Grandparents died before I was born too sadly. I would of really loved to have had a Grandad but it’s something I’ll never know the beauty of and it’s made me sad all my life... 😢

My dad's dad died when he was a young boy so never knew him. My remaining grandparents died when I was 21, 27 and 41. I knew my Great Grandad and Great Nana. I was 7 and then 11 when they died.

pollysproggle · 08/03/2020 11:05
  1. Lost grandad at 21, gran in late 20's, other grandad died a few years ago but I never knew him. Last grandma died 18 months ago.
Ohhgreat · 08/03/2020 11:06

Lost my first when I was 15, second when I was 23, still have two left. My DH never knew one (he died 20 years before he was born), one died when he was a teenager, one last year, one still going. He has however also lost his mum...

Pipandmum · 08/03/2020 11:07

Never knew my grandfathers, first grandmother died when I was about five and second when I was nine. Didn't know her well she lived I'm another country.
My kids have only one surviving blood grandparent but she's not that interested - lovely when we visit but has never gone out of her way to see them.

TravelDreamLife · 08/03/2020 11:07
  1. My grandmother passed last year at 101 years old. She was a truly incredible woman. My grandfather passed before I was born, so I never met him.

My other grandmother passed about 10 years ago aged late 90's, her husband about 10 years before that. I didn't know them very well.

TheJoxter · 08/03/2020 11:07

I’ve got one grandparent left but he’s in his 90s with severe dementia so doesn’t even know who I am any more. I’m in my late 20s

TheWayOfTheWorld · 08/03/2020 11:08

I'm 43 and still have my maternal grandmother who is 87 - she was very young when she had my mum and my mum was young when she had me. My parents are in their mid-60s and some of friends' parents are approaching their 80s.

wendz86 · 08/03/2020 11:10

I was 24 . One died before I was born , one when I was 10, one when I was 19 before that .

Very jealous of those who have grandparents still alive .

user1498572889 · 08/03/2020 11:10

7 the others died before I was born. My mum died before I had kids and I only have 1 sibling left out of 4. Some people are very lucky that they have grand parents and parents when they are older.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/03/2020 11:11

Dh was 40 when his maternal granny died at 93.

I was 28 when my nannan on my mum's side died at 79.

LBOCS2 · 08/03/2020 11:11

I lost one before I was born, one at 24, one at 29 and I've got one left who is 90 (I'm 34). I also lost my mum about a month before my grandmother died, when I was 29.

redastherose · 08/03/2020 11:11

37, 2 died before I was born. I grandma died when I was 21 at the age of 85 and my Nan died at the age of 97.

LemonadePockets · 08/03/2020 11:12

My DH is 36 with both sets of grandparents intact. I’m 33 with none. Lost my first at 9m old, then I was 22, 28 and I lost my last at 31.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 08/03/2020 11:12

Just to add - my paternal grandmother died before I was 1, my maternal grandfather was I was 9 and my paternal grandfather when I was 20.

CheekyMango · 08/03/2020 11:12

11, 3 passed before I was born.

mizu · 08/03/2020 11:12

Never knew my dad's side but on my mum's side, I was 44 when my grandpa died at 93 and my nan died last December when I was 46 at 91.
