How old were you when you lost your last grandparent?

I have no grandparents left, my last died when I was 27. Yet I know someone who is almost 30 and has all of her grandparents still living. Can't help but feel a little jealous.

  1. I had 3 until I was 22 whereas DH only had one from a young age. Between us we lost the last 3 within a year and our youngest DS never met any great-grandparents 😥

  1. My family live a long time.

DH didn't lose any of his grandparents until he was 35 and then lost one a year until he was 39. His family had children young so had his GPs lived as long as mine did they'd all still be alive.

My great grandparent is 95

NotEvenTheKing · 08/03/2020 14:10

I only ever had two. First one died in 2007. And the other died in 2016. I'm 35. Neither of them got to meet my children. It makes me quiet sad to be honest.

I'm 32 and have 2 grandparents left. 85 and 80 in good health. I have no parents though, they both died young.

  1. Still have one (99). Had 3 until I was 30. There’s no way I will have such good longevity! Far too much 🍷 and 🍰 .
MamaFlintstone · 08/03/2020 14:37
  1. My other grandma died when I was 12, and both grandads long before I was born.
singswithitsfingers · 08/03/2020 14:38

I was six. Two died long before I was born. My husband was in his 40s when he lost his last one though.

bumblingbovine49 · 08/03/2020 14:39

  1. My nan was 98 when she died. And outlived my other grandparents by 31, 29 and 13 years.

She was awesome. But did spend her last few years in a home not really knowing what was going on bless her.

NeverKnewThat · 08/03/2020 14:44

Never knew 2 of them. One died when I was 6 the other when I was 15.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/03/2020 14:47

I’m 36 and still have all of mine. My parents had me very young, though. I knew 2 of my great-grandfathers and 3 of my great-grannies. My grandparents are all late 70s/early 80s and one of them has had 2 health scares (cancer) in the last 4 years but has made it through chemotherapy and appears to be ok at the moment.

isittheholidaysyet · 08/03/2020 14:47

One GF died before I was born.
The great uncle who had the role of GF died when I was 10.
Both GM's when I was 14.
And the last GF a few months later.

midnightstar66 · 08/03/2020 14:48

I'm 40 and still have 2... they are 91, live together at home independently. They are my main concern in this corona outbreak

IceColdCat · 08/03/2020 14:48

Two died before I was born (although I was a foetus for one of them!).
One when I was 7.
Last one (my maternal grandmother) when I was 25.

luckymagnoliatree · 08/03/2020 14:50

I never met my mums parents as they both passed before I was born. My grandad died when I was 8 and my Nan died on her 90th birthday last July, I was 33. I miss them both dearly, I'm very lucky that she met both my boys but it's still very fresh and I get upset just thinking about it.

TheFluffiestCat · 08/03/2020 14:50
  1. Grandma was 92. DH was 40 when his Nan died at 91.
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/03/2020 14:50

On the great-grandparent chat - my last one died when I was 30. She was 102. I have a photo of her with my baby DD, me, Dad and Grandpa.

Growingboys · 08/03/2020 14:51

13, shortly after my father died.
