How old were you when you lost your last grandparent?

I have no grandparents left, my last died when I was 27. Yet I know someone who is almost 30 and has all of her grandparents still living. Can't help but feel a little jealous.

38 when my Nan does last year. My maternal grandparents died young but my grandad (paternal) died when I was 22.

I miss them though and treasure the relationship my DS has with his both sets

All my grand parents were dead by the time I was 16. Rather sadly, my older sister died when I was also 16. Then my dad in a car crash and my mum just over a year ago. Tough times.. I am fortunate to have my sister and a beautiful 2 year old niece. Thought it’s hard when strangers say to my sister that her daughter must get doted on by her grandparents. I know they mean it kindly. X

I'm 40, my last lasting grandparent is 88.

My grandma died when I was 26 but that was a debilitating disease and was inevitable.

MissCalamity · 08/03/2020 13:32

17, never met my paternal grandad who died when my Dad was only young.
My mum's parents died when I was 5 & 7, then I just had my Nanna.
I do remember bits of my mum's parents, house layout, smells etc... Wish I'd listened to my Nanna more about all her stories she had.
I always feel shocked when I find out people my age (40) still have living grandparents.

bonbonours · 08/03/2020 13:32

Two of mine were at my wedding when I was 22 and my granny lived to see my oldest two children, so I must have been early thirties when she died. I met my husband when he was 21 and he had no grandparents already (and lost his mum when he was 30). Just luck really....

HarrietThePi · 08/03/2020 13:34

All died before I was born. I used to feel a bit jealous of my friends who had grandparents when I was a child.

Nanamilly · 08/03/2020 13:35

My paternal died when he was 99 and I was in my about 40

Nanamilly · 08/03/2020 13:37

My maternal granny outlived my mum and died when I was as about 43. My mum died when she was 58 and had me when she was just 17.

My granny lived to be a great granny 3 times over.

Nanamilly · 08/03/2020 13:37

My dad is still alive. He’s 86 to my almost 62

iklboo · 08/03/2020 13:40
  1. They all died in their early 70s.
TwigTheWonderKid · 08/03/2020 13:41

By the time I was 22 I had no grandparents or parents.

Firecracker2019 · 08/03/2020 13:42

I lost two years before I was even born and the other remaining one about a year before the last.
The ones who died before I was born died in their 50s. The other set were both in their 70s and mid 80s when they died.

I had 2 when I was born, and 1 died less than 3 weeks later. Grandpa died just before I was 3.

M0nstermunch · 08/03/2020 13:45

41 when I lost the last one, feel lucky that I had so many lovely years with 3 of them, unfortunately I don't remember my mum's dad who died when I was 1 but the rest all close to each other and all will be remembered by my kids.

eaglebay · 08/03/2020 13:45

Both my DDs have lost 3/4 grandparents before they were born. They have 1 surviving, my mum.

user1483387154 · 08/03/2020 13:46

41 when my last grandparent passed away
My first set of grandparents both died before I was 30.
The second set had their children when they were only 18 years old .

29, I lost the others at 4, 18 & 24. I was closest to my grandad I lost at 24 and am still feeling it a lot 20 years later

Lordfrontpaw · 08/03/2020 13:49

My mums mum died when I was 32, a few months after my dad died. My dads dad died before I was born and mums dad died when I was 5. Dads mum died when I was about 29. I have now lost all that and my parents generations (apart from one uncle and his wife - he was the very much younger brother of my dad). There really wasn’t anyone on mums side.

sindylouwho · 08/03/2020 13:54

Two went before I was born, one when I was 9 and I still have one. I'm 33. But my cousins are all in their forties.

cocomelon23 · 08/03/2020 13:54

I'm 37 and have 3 grandparents and one great grandparent. I lost a great grandparent 5 years ago.

nsav · 08/03/2020 13:55

I’m really lucky that I’m 20 and know all 5 of my grandparents (one is step) and also knew my papas mum and my grans mum. My papas mum died last year at age 100! Lots of my friends don’t have all their grandparents and I’m so lucky that I have all mine. They are going to be great-grandparents in July and I’m so lucky!

RhymingRabbit3 · 08/03/2020 13:56

I'm 29 and have all 4 grandparents and one great grandparent still living. I'm very lucky and happen to come from a family who have kids quite young.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2020 13:56

About 40. My dad was in his forties when his last grandmother died as well. Some people never know any of theirs.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2020 13:58

"I'm 37 and have 3 grandparents and one great grandparent. "

Wow, how old is your great-grandparent. It's rare to reach adulthood with a great-grandparent and even rarer to be close to middle age.
