Lydia too, dp kept saying "but Chlamydia". I think Lydia is a lovely name and never would associate it with an std!! It was the one name he was dead against though.

Moonfacebiggins · 05/03/2020 21:45

Dolly

puds11 · 05/03/2020 21:47

Wallace for a girl. I love it but the plasticine associations are strong.

Vada, obvious why I didn’t go with that.

Sorcha- Ser-i-ka

Aoife- Ee-fa

Saoirse- Seer-sha or (Saoirse Ronan pronounces it like Sur-sha)

You would have been helpful last week! I was supposed to be writing a transcription for something and there were several Irish people in the room who all stated their name but no spelling provided. Googling "Irish name that sounds like X" etc. did not help in the slightest. There are some beautiful Irish names but I just can't get the spelling and pronunciation to connect in my head. It took me years to remember that Aoife is Ee-fa and not Ay - Oh - Ee - Fee, despite having been told it many times. Ones like Saoirse I just can't get to stick (in my head it's Say-orse).

Henry. Was my beloved Grandfather's name. My DH vetoed it. It is my DS2's middle name, but I've carried a grudge about him vetoing it for 28 years.

HarrietThePi · 05/03/2020 21:52

Incidentally, is there an Irish male name that sounds like "Fire"?

swizzells2003 · 05/03/2020 21:54

Lysander.... love it, DH hates it
Jeremy ...... same as above

WeCameToDance · 05/03/2020 21:59

Atticus ( I adore it, sadly nobody else seems to), Atlas, Gabriel, Tobias.
Dd is a Lydia and I love it. Named after Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice Grin
If I ever have a dd2 my list would include Ophelia, Juliet and Romily.

Ikeatears · 05/03/2020 22:02

Zachary - I already had a nephew of the same name

Samuel - for ds's middle name - we used dh's name instead and I don't regret it but prefer Samuel

Izzabellasasperella · 05/03/2020 22:03

@Lucylivesinamushroomhouse you are the only person I've heard of who also wanted the name Hephzibah! Dh said absolutely no, in fact I think he thought I was joking when I raised it. Dd says she is so grateful we didn't use it.
Like the poster upthread said, I'll use it as my next cats name😊

LynetteScavo · 05/03/2020 22:05

Ottilie

Bruce

WeCameToDance · 05/03/2020 22:09

On the other side of this my dad desperately wanted to name me Myfanwy. I can’t express to my mum how thankful I am that she stayed firm and did not give in to that one. A lifetime with the nickname Fanny doesn’t really bare thinking about.

theendoftheendoftheend · 05/03/2020 22:10

Thor

OhTheRoses · 05/03/2020 22:15

Frederick (Freddie) - didn't go with surname but the child that was wpuld have pulled it off.
DD got the right name

For another dc:

Arthur
Louisa

Wond3rment · 05/03/2020 22:20

Conal

I got distracted on the day so he ended up with another name. Wish I hadn’t been distracted 😆

motortroll · 05/03/2020 22:25

Juliet on my list too!

Also love Helena

Vincent for a boy but ruined for me by my best friends ex!

FreakForHummous · 05/03/2020 22:27

Esme
Blythe
Caleb
Holden
Conrad

And Danger as a middle name Grin

Unusualsuspicion · 05/03/2020 22:29

Aoife and Arlo. They'd make a good sibling pair too, I can imagine calling them across the park Grin Sadly no plans for two further children (or even one!).

Wasail · 05/03/2020 22:29

Isolde
Demelza
Fenella
Dipna
Finnavear
Fraya
Are all names that could have been used for my DD had I ever had one.

user1493494961 · 05/03/2020 22:30

Juliet.

CarpeVitam · 05/03/2020 22:31

MyBlueMoonbeam · 05/03/2020 22:36

Dorcas was suggested for me 😱 I was a plump child - Porky Dorky would have been an awful nickname 😳 thankfully it was vetoed
