My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:02

I am a bridesmaid 2 weeks today. Tried the dress on 2 weeks ago and it wouldn't zip up. Tried again today and no better.
There are 6 bridesmaids so I can't go out and buy another. We have had them since August so months ago and no chance of ordering in time plus I can't afford.
Not sure if slimming is going to work. The zip is under the arm.
What are my other options? Try and fashion a lace tie up and hope no one notices?

See if you can find a dressmaker who can alter it, add a panel or something.

LoveFameTragedy · 05/03/2020 19:05

You can lose a lot of weight in two weeks if you are determined and healthy. Otherwise quickly find a dressmaker!

Hiphopopotamus · 05/03/2020 19:05

Did it fit before when you bought it? Do you know how much weight you’ve gained since then? (Not being horrible, just working out whether a crash diet is realistic)

Ive just paid for it to be taken up so finding a dressmaker not a problem but I don't see what they can really do. The fit is so awkward because its from china. When I mentioned to the lady that took it up that I couldn't zip it up she said she could take the bones out. No other suggestion so not sure what could be done.

It did fit yes, think I have gained half a stone Shock

Two weeks of slimming world could get you down a half a stone.

Or trying something like exante or the cambridge plan.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:23

I fully intend to try and slim. I have been doing my best although I reckon if I cut out the Diet Coke then that would help.
I think I need a back up plan too though.

MunchMunch · 05/03/2020 19:26

I would definitely try Exante. It'll be hard but worth it and it's only for 2 weeks. Exante is cheaper than Cambridge weight plan.

Babytigerrr · 05/03/2020 19:29

Diet coke has no calories so i dont think that will solve your issues!

I would take the pressure off yourself and get it let out.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:31

Couldn’t I get the same results by eating loads of fruit of veg? And it’s cheaper? Maybe?

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 05/03/2020 19:31

Giving up diet coke wont help too much, 2 weeks of sticking to slimming world could get half a stone off easily I think.

FizzyPink · 05/03/2020 19:31

I’m not sure cutting out Diet Coke is going to do much. Depending on how big you are now I’d say ultra low carb for 2 weeks would do it. I lost a stone in a month last year low carbbing and I’m a size 8/10. But that means no sugar at all so no fruit/juice etc

Pilot12 · 05/03/2020 19:31

Slim Fast, follow the rules and no cheating, I went down two dress sizes in two weeks but you will be starving the whole time though!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:32

Babytiger, I’m not sure there is any material to let out! I’m going to test the seamstress and ask her!

BoswellsBollocks · 05/03/2020 19:32

The exact thing happened to me when I was bridesmaid. Only with just 10 day to go. I was in such a panic.

I ate nothing but tuna/ham salad and drank water for those 10 days and on the day of the wedding my dress was a bit loose 🙈

I soon filled it back out with all the food and booze

It can be done, don’t panic.

DinosApple · 05/03/2020 19:32

If it is being taken up there is excess material that could be inserted to make an extra panel. Ask the person doing the altering if that is a possibility.

FizzyPink · 05/03/2020 19:32

No not lots of fruit, it’s just sugar. You need to be focusing on loads of green veg

Babytigerrr · 05/03/2020 19:34

Its definitely worth an ask!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:35

Thanks ladies I’ll keep trying. I don’t drink half the amount of water I should do I will start there and keep trying.
I’m not sure I’d manage slim fasts have done slimming world before and that worked so will take a similar approach to that. Thanks ladies!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:36

Dinos Apple the skirt is totally different material to the bodice so can’t be used for it.

OP posts:
TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/03/2020 19:36

How much of a gap is there?

My sister’s dress maker managed to fit a panel in my BM dress to accommodate a 38 week baby bump, so a gap of an inch of so shouldn’t be an issue.

If you can please try and sort it quickly and sensibly. If I was the bride and one of my friends knew weeks ago that their dress didn’t fit and was only telling me the day before wedding because their crash diet didn’t work, I’d be furious that they hadn’t told me earlier. She probably doesn’t have the headspace to worry about this two weeks before with all the other elements of planning.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:37

I’m going to hug a sucky in bodice too to see if that makes a difference on top of dieting.

OP posts:
hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:38

I’m not telling her! I’m going to sort it myself!

makingmiracles · 05/03/2020 19:39

Cut all carbs, no grains, no poatatoes, no rice, no pasta, just eat meat and low carb veg (general rule anything that grows above ground is ok and low carb, anything that grows below ground is off limits) no sugar etc

Drink water and if you drink te/coffee use double cream in it instead of milk(milk has loads of carbs and sugar)

Do that and you will easily lose 10lb or more in the next two weeks

HTH

diet.jaduncan.com/2006/04/how-i-lost-stone-in-week.html?m=1

I did this once, when I wanted to fit into a dress for a wedding and I was still trying to shift some baby weight. Didn't quite lose a stone in a week but I definitely shifted around half a stone (although some of that was definitely water weight). It's not magic, it's just very low calorie but I found following a daily meal plan helpful so I didn't have to think about it.
