My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:02

I am a bridesmaid 2 weeks today. Tried the dress on 2 weeks ago and it wouldn't zip up. Tried again today and no better.
There are 6 bridesmaids so I can't go out and buy another. We have had them since August so months ago and no chance of ordering in time plus I can't afford.
Not sure if slimming is going to work. The zip is under the arm.
What are my other options? Try and fashion a lace tie up and hope no one notices?

Ditch the diet coke. Too much sweetener makes you retain water.

And go low carb, it'll flatten your stomach out.

Beautiful3 · 05/03/2020 20:07

Slimfast for 2 weeks will definitely lose it.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 20:08

I don’t really know many of the other bridesmaids to ask.

Lots of good ideas on here for you OP. No need to panic.
Diet for two weeks. Sounds doable.
A corset on the day. Very reasonable.
A pretty bolero jacket. Normal for the weather.
Are there big seams that can be let out? Worth considering.
Every time you go to eat an indulgence, think, it's this or the dress.
Two weeks of spin classes or gym or swimming. Get the step counter app on your phone up and running. Aim for 10,000 Keep it ON you ALL day, from getting up to lights out.
You can do this! I believe in you. You will look and feel fantastic on the day. And I will want to see a pic from the day too...Grin

The 5-day egg diet should do it, if you only need to lose a few lbs.

I just did it to fit into my wedding dress, needed to go down about half a size, and it worked a treat.

PRL73 · 05/03/2020 20:12

I had this exact same problem! It was also a crappy dress from China but a seamstress let it out and I went on a suicide diet/gym for 3 weeks. It’s an awful feeling, I found out on my 30th birthday that it didn’t fit. Worst birthday ever!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 20:14

Willow can you follow me around for motivation please?!
Thank you for the support!

Cabbage soup diet works well for a quick fix for an occasion but can have some side effects!

I might join you for a week :)

Honestly, look up the keto egg fast. It’s plenty nutritious (short term) and really works. Don’t be put off by the sound of bulletproof coffees, they’re actually quite delicious.

I couldn’t zip mine up and it fit perfectly five days later. (Plus two days of general low carbing).

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/03/2020 20:23

Never been so relieved for a wedding to be over. Drive thru McDonald's in the way home was stunning.

Grin

Have a mental image of a bridesmaid parked up in McDonald's, in a lovely dress with the zip open to allow for the first proper meal in a week!

Had a sad realisation that if you are just about able to squeeze into the dress, the you can't eat loads at the delicious wedding breakfast Sad as you kinda have to wait until you can take the bloody thing off.

OP I hope you get it sorted.

Ninkanink · 05/03/2020 20:24

I had loads of room for stuffing myself with goodies on the day!

Furiosa · 05/03/2020 20:28

Get the dress altered. You have duties to carry out on the day for the bride. The last thing she'll want is one of her BM's crashing to the floor, ripping and enormous eggy/cabbage fart!

loveacupoftea18 · 05/03/2020 20:29

Hey

I had this issue. My dress was just too damn small and there wasn't any material to let out.

I found a seamstress and she changed the zip for a corset ribbon tie up back. Meant that the gap where I couldn't do it up was replaced by the ribbon.

There was literally nothing else that could be done. I thought I'd hate it but actually it was quite nice and the other girls wished they'd had it too!

randomsabreuse · 05/03/2020 20:30

Has it definitely fit in the past and where is it tight?

Tummy/waist it boobs have way more reduction possibilities than ribcage/hips as there is far less padding to lose!

No diet will make your ribs shrink!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 20:30

Loveacupoftea, I have thought of this but the zip is up the side so not sure it would look right.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 20:31

It definitely fit in the summer.
It’s back fat I think!

The same thing happened to me, thankfully I was able to purchase another dress, one size larger, in time for my Sister's wedding. I know this doesn't help, just wanted you to know you're not the only one this has happened to!!

Maryann1975 · 05/03/2020 20:34

I mean this kindly but my answer to ‘can I loose half a stone in 2 weeks?’ Depends on what size you actually are. If you are a size 10, I think it’s going to be really hard to loose that much weight so quickly. If you are a size 16, I think it would probably be easier (this is based on nothing more than friends observations of how easy it has been to loose weight).

I think I would be speaking to the seamstress again, surely you tried the dress on for her so she could check what alterations needed doing? Getting some good underwear and researching some of the diet options given above to see which one sounds like something you could honestly stick too for a fortnight.

Reginabambina · 05/03/2020 20:34

Where is it that is does fit? If it’s just around your breasts could you try going braless?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 05/03/2020 20:35

Do not starve yourself or go on these ridiculous crash diets, it's stupid!

Get the dress altered. You could put a photo of similar dress and ask (or start different thread) asking clever seamstress for advice.

Reginabambina · 05/03/2020 20:36

Alternatively stop eating? I once lost a full stone in a week due to stomach flu.

MinesAPintOfTea · 05/03/2020 20:37

Mum and I sorted a similar dress for my sil. If you go to a good fabric shop you should be able to get half a yard of matching fabric. Then task me that to a seamstress and get a panel put in either underarm or back (they should be able to advise where will be more discrete on that style of dress)

A safety pin will not hold a dress that is bursting open!

If you leave it until the day before you will not have options. You have them now.

icelollycraving · 05/03/2020 20:39

I follow the fast 800. I lost 9lbs my first week. Really good plan for a good loss.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 05/03/2020 20:45

I can't believe the amount of outrageous and shit advice on here!

You know what happens when you starve yourself don't you? You put the weight back on with extra. Do you want that?

Get the dress altered. What do you intend to do if you starve yourself and it still doesn't fit on the day? Get a decent seamstress advice, get it altered, and actually enjoy the wedding. Instead of not being able to eat or drink a single thing on the day - or puking after a glass of prosecco on a stomach that has been empty for 2 weeks. Always a great look for a bridesmaid.
