My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:02

I am a bridesmaid 2 weeks today. Tried the dress on 2 weeks ago and it wouldn't zip up. Tried again today and no better.
There are 6 bridesmaids so I can't go out and buy another. We have had them since August so months ago and no chance of ordering in time plus I can't afford.
Not sure if slimming is going to work. The zip is under the arm.
What are my other options? Try and fashion a lace tie up and hope no one notices?

Salads, proteins and vegetables. Lots of water. You can lose half a stone in two weeks easily.

icelollycraving · 05/03/2020 19:41

Tell her! Don’t change the dress without telling her.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 05/03/2020 19:42

Drink water and if you drink te/coffee use double cream in it instead of milk(milk has loads of carbs and sugar

Really? Shock
I would never have guessed that in my life. Double cream is better than milk?

Could you zip the dress up as far as it goes and hold it with a safety pin and wear one of those fluffy jacket things (can't think what they're called) to hide the zip

Something like this...

My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit!
RedRed9 · 05/03/2020 19:45

I don’t drink half the amount of water I should do I will start there

With all kindness OP you have two weeks. Drinking water and eating more fruit and veg isn’t going to cut it.

Face the fact you’re going to need to be very very hungry every day for two weeks. Or pay a seamstress.

Elouera · 05/03/2020 19:46

If you realised 2 weeks ago you couldn't zip it up, why are you only doing something now about it? Confused

If you are big breasted, a minimiser bra can flatten out the breasts and might make the top half fit better.

I'd get carb manager app on your phone, a set of digital kitchen scales and go keto for the next 2 weeks. You'll need to cut out bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc, but I eat a wide range of veg, meats, cheese and I've lost 10kg (although over several months). Some people get a large weight loss in 2 weeks though.

Morgan12 · 05/03/2020 19:48

I did that lose a stone in a week diet also.

Lost 4lb in 3 days and gave up because I was starving 😂

I don't see what the difference is between that diet or just eating like 500 cals a day is though.

Elouera · 05/03/2020 19:48

Are the other BM's dresses tight, or just yours? Might have been small makes if they came from China?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/03/2020 19:48

I did the fast 800 and lost a stone and a half in two weeks... I'd definitely give that a go, OP

FizzyPink · 05/03/2020 19:49

Doing keto doesn’t mean you’ll be hungry, I genuinely think if you can stick to it it’s your best bet

Whatsthesmell · 05/03/2020 19:49

The 1:1 diet/ the cambridge diet wil take at least 8-9lb off in two week aid not more. How can also achieve this by cutting out carbs. By very strict but reintroduce them if you plan on drinking at wedding otherwise the dress won't be what people will be talking about

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:50

Thanks miracles. Sounds like the easiest option to follow. Don't drink tea and coffee. Just loads of diet coke.
My tight jeans don't feel as loose this week so I am hoping my efforts so far are making a difference but I have a way to go.

This was me in October! it was a major stress for me but I just got the dress taken out. It was a massive relief when they said it could be done!

MrsGrindah · 05/03/2020 19:51

Some shit advice on this thread. Even if you do lose weight ( real fat not water weight) there’s no guarantee where it will come off..you might not fit the dress . Get it altered and don’t do silly crash diets.

Divebar · 05/03/2020 19:51

Spanx do bodysuits ( with long cycling style shorts ) - they will smooth over some lumps and bumps. ( you won’t want to pull some hit bloke but it will help non the less). The 800 calorie blood sugar diet will easily help you lose 7 lbs... it’s tough for a couple of days but you get used to it. Otherwise low carb all the way.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 05/03/2020 19:52

Sorry but I’m Grin at OP thinking cutting out Diet Coke will cut it! It has no calories!

If you eat fruit, veg and protein for the next 2 weeks and drink water and do a bit of exercise each day, even if it’s just a brisk walk you could do it.
But I think not telling the bride could be a mistake. What are you going to do if it doesn’t fit on the wedding day? You will be causing stress on her big day, surely better to tell her now and give her warning that you may not be able to be a bridesmaid (unless you can get it altered or buy another similar dress).

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 05/03/2020 19:52

Take yourself and the dress to somewhere like John Lewis and get some properly fitted shaper underwear.. It may well do the trick

ShesCurly · 05/03/2020 19:53

Argh you could have had a month to sort this, didn't you brick it when it didn't do up two weeks ago?

Poor you it's so stressful when stuff like this happens. I remember a painful week of eating nothing much except tomatoes and pesto to fit into the cunting size eight dress that looked lovely when I tried it on.

Never been so relieved for a wedding to be over. Drive thru McDonald's in the way home was stunning.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:53

Thanks ladies. I am going to try!

dontgobaconmyheart · 05/03/2020 19:56

No crash dueting advice because it's a terrible idea. Just see a seamstress OP, a panel could be inserted.

The most likely scenario here is that on the day it still won't fit, which is far worse than turning up with a panel in the side of the dress. I'd tell the bride so she can weigh in on what is best to do or plan photos around the outcome of the dress being unsuitable.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:58

I don't think that that alone will help!
I meant in addition to what I am already doing which is sticking to 1200 calories. People say it helps to drink loads of water.

Might you be able to swap dresses with one of the other bridesmaids? Have any of them lost some weight recently?

Herpesfreesince03 · 05/03/2020 20:00

If you haven’t sorted it by now op, are you really going to lose it in the next two weeks? Drinking more water and eating more veg is going to do nothing at this stage, that’s slow weight loss goals. I think you need to be honest with the bride and see what you can do about adjusting or changing your dress
