My bridesmaid dress doesn't fit!

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/03/2020 19:02

I am a bridesmaid 2 weeks today. Tried the dress on 2 weeks ago and it wouldn't zip up. Tried again today and no better.
There are 6 bridesmaids so I can't go out and buy another. We have had them since August so months ago and no chance of ordering in time plus I can't afford.
Not sure if slimming is going to work. The zip is under the arm.
What are my other options? Try and fashion a lace tie up and hope no one notices?

Or a drink made with a stock cube is great too!

Ninkanink · 06/03/2020 18:31

Also absolutely no need to only have three meals and no snacks unless you’re not actually hungry. Just saying because as your motivation to stick with it wanes, you’re better off eating snacks (as long as they are good, low carb-friendly snacks) than falling off the wagon and eating something carb heavy as it will potentially scupper your weight loss for a few days.

Here’s a link to boot camp in case it’s helpful (lots of really knowledgable people who can help with queries/issues/support as well):

You could try the milk and yoghurt diet for two weeks (liver cleanse that's used before bariatric surgery). Its boring and you crave something you can chew after about 5 days, but it does work.

whatsthebestname · 06/03/2020 18:50

Just a thought... if there are 6 bridesmaids are you sure you have received the correct dress?

gracefull · 06/03/2020 19:06

You don’t need to follow a diet. You just need to put less calories into your body than you burn. That’s the basic science of weight loss. Slimming world works on this principal but doesn’t give you the knowledge you need, to keep you dependent on buying into the plan. You can calculate your BMR (how many calories your body burns at complete rest per day) and then ensure that you eat less than that to maintain a calorie deficit. Your body will then use your fat deposits as a calorie source, as it cannot function without doing it. Subsequently you’ll lose fat. You can speed this up with exercise, which will burn further calories. It doesn’t matter really what foods you put in, as long as you don’t exceed the calorific value. Obviously from a nutrition point of view this isn’t true, but in basic fat loss terms the source of the calories is irrelevant. Myfitness pal is a tracking app and will calculate the values for you. Ensure you enter your data accurately and track what you eat. That said, my advice is to get the dress taken out.

Crash dieting is unhealthy, dangerous and not guaranteed to get the result you want.

Op I used to work in the wedding industry and this is an incredibly common issue.

A GOOD competent actually BRIDAL seamstress will have several possible solutions to this issue and will be able to implement them.

I'm no seamstress but off the top of my head from my experience I've known seamstresses to:

Add 1-3 panels

Let out a dress with minimal "wastage" on the seams - it may appear there's "only" 1/2 " on the seam you're thinking about about but there's usually at least 2 seams on the bodice = 1" wastage available sometimes there's 3 or 4 seams meaning it can be let out 4 x the wastage per seam

They can move the zip to an area where it's easier to do up, even if that means creating a new seam

Convert a zip up dress to a bodice Lace up or even elasticated closure.

No need to make yourself ill to fit a dress.

And I would strongly advise telling the bride too.

@hidinginthenightgarden great to read your update! Not the headache bit though. Is that because you gave up the cola? Fingers crossed that eases off quickly.

You are doing so well! Stick to your plan, it is a great plan.
I will be thinking of you when I am drinking my water. I am so pleased for you! Smile

Well done for getting in dress with pinchy zip

When is wedding

Sugarfreejelly · 08/03/2020 09:30

My wedding dress was too small 2 weeks before my wedding. I low carbed and on the day itself it was slightly loose (and I kept pulling it up!) so it can be done.
Good luck!

willowmelangell · 09/03/2020 19:32

@hidinginthenightgarden I hope this filthy weather clears up. Is the wedding in the UK?
I had to go out of town today. Got lost. Going around in circles blah blah Eventually all sorted. Got back on train, felt horribly ill(travel sickSad. Got off train early station and walked through rain home. Cold, wet, tired and sick. On the plus side I walked 14,170 steps todayGrin
I hope your day was better than mine. Keep on keeping on OP

Beautiful3 · 10/03/2020 18:06

Well done op.

hidinginthenightgarden · 10/03/2020 22:04

Thanks for checking in guys.
Finding it surprisingly easy to stick to. Probably because work are keeping me super busy this week. I have done nearly 20,000 steps today which should help!

How are you @hidinginthenightgarden ? A week to go. I did think of you today when I started looking at MotB outfits.
I hope your spirits are up and you are looking forward to a great day Grin

hidinginthenightgarden · 12/03/2020 19:14

I’m good thanks. To be honest I have been flapping about the possibility of it being cancelled more than anything. Plus my youngest has developed chicken pox so I don’t have time to stuff my face 😂 it zips up but not comfortably because the bones are in the wrong place. A few extra pounds would make the dress more comfortable to wear.

@hidinginthenightgarden Hello!
Not long now. How is poorly dc? Is work still busy? I am going to guess you are in a warehouse or distribution. 'Cos those guys are running around.

I hope the day is going ahead and you are looking forward to it.Grin
