I don't know if anyone else has made one!

Some interesting attempt landings going on around the Canary Islands today! Massive sandstorms causing some flights to divert to Morocco.

Thunderpunt · 23/02/2020 13:59

Well the pilot on our plane peddled hard and we landed on time at LGW - blustery but nowhere near as bad as last weeks departure.

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 15:36

Is BA2702 ok? 2 hours to go until it reaches Tenerife but descending rapidly near Portugal.

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 15:42

LS1265 to Tenerife now descending too near Portugal?!?!

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 15:44

Actually is something going on in the canaries? Even internal flights are acting odd...

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 15:46

Yes there is, I should read the news first Blush

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 15:46

Both seem to be preparing to land sooner than Tenerife!

Frownette · 23/02/2020 15:49

I'll have to join in next flight, someone I chatter to on here was on a night flight. I was saying 6 hours! on WhatsApp etc but it would have been soothing to watch as I couldn't sleep

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 15:50

The BBC have nothing about it so thanks for the Sky link.
I wonder if we'll have red sand on our cars in a few days - or even black sand depending on where the next batch of wind comes from.

Frownette · 23/02/2020 15:50

What's the app? You just need flight number?

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 15:52

Flights are coming out of Tenerife so what's going on with BA2702 in particular?

longearedbat · 23/02/2020 15:55

If you want to see what's happening in Tenerife, heres a webcam in Playa de las Americas. Looks like hell on earth.

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 15:56

There is a large dust storm stopped flights on some of the Canary Islands. It seems to be Gran Canaria, Lanzerote and Santa Cruz.

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 15:58

Where's TUI6PB going?!

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:03

What's with N61RW Atlantic City? Don't think I've noticed anything like that before

notimagain · 23/02/2020 16:04

Is BA2702 ok? 2 hours to go until it reaches Tenerife but descending rapidly near Portugal.

Going into Faro....whether that’s pre-planned to uplift fuel to then get to TFS with as much as possible or whether the weather. Grin .....at TFS has gone below limits I do not know...

NoGravyForYou · 23/02/2020 16:08

That's very strange about that TUI6PB.

Just saw a Glasgow to Lanzarote flight land in Fuertventura. I've seen videos of the sand storm in Fuertventura and it's bad so must be very bad in the other islands if they're landing in Fuertventura

OP posts:
notimagain · 23/02/2020 16:08

Ah..visibility at TFS now being quoted at 700 metres....that could well below limits for some types of approaches and might explain some of the “goings on”...

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 16:10

Is the Atlantic city one a training flight?

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 16:12

It reminds me of doing 'circuits and bumps' in gliders.

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:14

Must be. They've flown backwards and forwards for 2 hours Grin

Don't understand the internal canaries flight currently heading for mainland Europe though

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:16

BY6658 is the same. Very odd

recordbox · 23/02/2020 16:19

It could be a calibration or survey aircraft. It's a Cessna 320, small twin prop.

recordbox · 23/02/2020 16:19

Sorry that was re N61RW

recordbox · 23/02/2020 16:22

Don't understand the internal canaries flight currently heading for mainland Europe though

They are not internal flights. Like not mentioned they often have a planned fuel stop.
