AFL2548 had a change of heart too Grin

recordbox · 23/02/2020 16:23

Wow at the webcam Shock

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:24

How do you mean for the fuel stop? Tenerife to Gran Canaria flying in the other direction for an hour to get fuel?

notimagain · 23/02/2020 16:24

Don't understand the internal canaries flight currently heading for mainland Europe though

Looks like the weather in that part of the world has gone to hell in a handcart in the last hour or two in addition to TFS probably being below limits the visibility isn’t much better at Fuertventura and they reporting windshear on the approach to all runways.....I can see why some flights might be departing the area.....

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:29

That's what I mean. If a flight was en route already I'd get it, but why depart Tenerife an hour ago in those conditions with Gran Canaria as the destination and then fly in the opposite direction for an hour? More than one plane. I don't understand why they'd have a planned fuel stop either as suggested

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 16:31

I don't understand it either, it's beyond our mere mortals.

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:34

But there isn't anywhere to fuel stop between Tenerife and Gran Canaria!!!

@recordbox how do you know that's a Cessna? I'm not getting any info for it, just looks bigger than the usual Cessnas

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 16:34

Sorry, forgot screen shot

Recordbox has sources that we don't have?

notimagain · 23/02/2020 16:42

No idea. I don’t really know the area or the airlines but if these flights really are going completely “off piste”, so to speak, it starts to look like the companies simply want to get them off the islands, so to speak....Maybe be ramp congestion at the airport...Is the dust so bad they are running into fuel/refuelling issues....I have no suggestions.

Starisnotanumber · 23/02/2020 16:43

Looks like aetoflot su 2548 from Moscow to tenerife is heading away. 10 minutes from landing now going back to words Europe.

Starisnotanumber · 23/02/2020 16:51

Was in tenerife a couple of weeks ago when they had a calima which wasn't as bad as this one but really unpleasant to breathe it's just a big desert sandstorm.
At the moment there's strong winds and large open fires in a couple of places the open ground is really dry.
All the main attractions and shopping centres are shut there has been a ferry collision in Los cristisnos.
Hope that everyone is OK there though lots of older holidaymakers at this time of year

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 16:54

I wouldn't want to be there with anything like asthma or allergies.

carlyclock · 23/02/2020 17:08

Sorry picked the details up incorrectly from the start.

carlyclock · 23/02/2020 17:09

Also name changed Blush

carlyclock · 23/02/2020 17:10

It looks bigger where?

carlyclock · 23/02/2020 17:11

If you mean the FR24 icon it shows as a basic aircraft because FR doesn't know what it is, so reverts to default.

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 17:13

Yes that's what I meant. How do you know what it is but FR24 doesn't Shock

Are you name changing international spy? Grin

carlyclock · 23/02/2020 17:23

Are you name changing international spy?

If I was I'm not very good at it Grin

The flight number matches the tail number of the aircraft so you would be able to google that. I do have a small amount of inside info available though.

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 17:24

Are you name changing international spy?

No, that's me..hang on, somebody is at the door.

NoGravyForYou · 23/02/2020 17:28

All airports in the canaries have been closed.

Saw this picture of one of the airports on Facebook a few minutes ago!!

N9181 to Tenerife from Faro has diverted to possibly Malaga. Why did it take off? Surely they knew the situation there 25 mins ago?

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 17:35

Looks like the Moscow flight is going into Malaga too.

peekaboob · 23/02/2020 17:36

Will be interesting to see what HV5121 from Rotterdam does. It's currently 37000 due to land at Lanzarote in 27 mins

notimagain · 23/02/2020 17:40

I think the problem is the forecasts for e.g. TFS has been saying that most of the time is visibility would be just about ok for approaches and at times up until the last couple of hours at times it has been...just....

I suspect decisions have been made to depart towards the islands on the basis the forecasts of deteriorations will be short lived ... (plus carry extra fuel, be prepared to hold until vis picks up, that sort of thinking.)

It only looks very recently as if the weather has settled for being consistently below minima and that might have caught one or two out.

Wonder what the BA will do?
