I don't know if anyone else has made one!
BA2665 has missed LGW and is circling again

Interesting watching the RAF over B'ham - they went right down low over the airport as if they were landing and are now going round again and climbing; a Ryanair flight from Madrid landed before them. They've done two circuits now, each one shorter and narrower than the one before.

NewHorizons2020 · 12/04/2020 11:04

There is a small private aircraft, CGD22B from Doncaster, doing circles of eight on the Dover Coast right now - they are on their third - anyone ? Any ideas ?

perniciousdot · 13/04/2020 18:43

@NewHorizons2020

That was coastguard.

Bopalopashamalamadingdong · 13/04/2020 23:43

Is the website playing up for anyone tonight?

Definitely heard a helicopter above my house which I was able to track but the website just keeps refreshing and refreshing saying a problem occurred.

Thought I heard a plane too but could be wrong.

AbsolomChautney · 14/04/2020 23:04

What’s going on here then? Supposedly Istanbul to Madrid but appears not...

Probably a mistake, it's supposed to be going to Chicago.

notimagain · 15/04/2020 07:15

I'm not familiar with the App but I'm guessing it draws the track from the current aircraft to what the app's sources predict is the destination? In which case there's scope for some confusion, to say the least.

Anyhow just looked at the flight on Flightradar24 playback and it had the same problem (though it didn't draw predicted track) - it's info panel also displayed the flight destination as MAD but the aircraft was clearly heading for somewhere in North America - it may well be Chicago (ORD) as betty says but TBH I haven't followed it through to landing.

I'm not sure but this might be another example of the glitch we are seeing a lot of at the moment which is caused by the apps perhaps not having access to live Flight Plan data and having to guess where an aircraft is going, perhaps based on callsign or flight number histories held in a database.

AbsolomChautney · 15/04/2020 07:45

From what I can tell, they’re skipping the Madrid leg of that journey now.

Cacaca · 15/04/2020 07:59

Those questioning Aberdeen and the helicopters - it’s offshore travel not private transport. This has not slowed down at all due to coronavirus. This is making Aberdeen the busiet airport in the UK and second busiest in Europe behind Frankfurt at the moment.

notimagain · 15/04/2020 08:53

From what I can tell, they’re skipping the Madrid leg of that journey now.

OK, that would make sense - If the historical routing for that flight number/callsign is usually IST-MAD then that could indeed explain why the app/Flightradar are "confused".

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 10:04

There are LOTS of helicopters in the USA right now and all seem to be Medical Care ones. Is this usual? I have only recently started looking at other countries rather than UK Grin

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 10:06

Or police helicopters - obviously US police use them more than we do here!

GoFiguire · 16/04/2020 10:17

There are lots of U.K. helicopters congregating in The Wash - the sea by North Norfolk. What is going on? One helicopter travelled there from Bristol.

TheSparklyPussycat · 16/04/2020 11:04

4 Dissalt Falcons seem to have taken off from Durham Tees Valley. Anyone know what these might be?

JadziaSnax · 16/04/2020 11:05

Theres a Cessna that's flying east to west across Lancashire. Wonder what's going on there.

JadziaSnax · 16/04/2020 11:08

Should say east to west and back again. Drawing stripes across Lancashire.

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 11:16

@JadziaSnax its from Reconnaissance Ventures so I assume its some sort of aerial assessment - maybe land mapping?

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 11:17

@TheSparklyPussycat pilot training maybe? They are certainly drawing pretty squiggles in the sky Grin

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 11:21

@GoFiguire probably something to do with the oil rigs. Finally got round to googling Babcock Onshore and they are either pilot training (Gloucestershire) or medical flights.

midnightstar66 · 16/04/2020 11:23

I'm in Scotland so see the helicopter activity round here every time I open the app. There has definitely been a massive increase in helicopter activity in the last 3-4 weeks. Never seen so many at any one time.

midnightstar66 · 16/04/2020 11:25

Also a good few over land helicopters are smaller and say private owner which is pretty rare to see so many of too.

perniciousdot · 16/04/2020 11:30

The helicopter activity is totally normal. I think it's just not so obvious because usually when you open the app there are planes covering them up.

4 Dissalt Falcons seem to have taken off from Durham Tees Valley. Anyone know what these might be?

These will be over the North Sea doing training for/with the RAF.

notimagain · 16/04/2020 11:33

4 Dassalt Falcons seem to have taken off from Durham Tees Valley. Anyone know what these might be?

Probably Chobham aviation aircraft, they provide training "facilities" ("targets") for the military..

Other points raised - anything flying regular patterns is probably doing survey/photographic work..

The Flying training schools should have stopped flying...though some professional pilots might be flying to retain "recency".

Whenwillthewashingend · 16/04/2020 11:38

We have a caravan at the East coast, and the Falcons do training regularly on a Thursday. Noisy things.
I miss that noise.

BiddyPop · 16/04/2020 11:51

I was looking, again, at the quietness of the UK and Ireland this morning. So I popped onto the Dublin Airport website - in peak morning rush in normal times, there can easily be 16 planes departing within a 20 minute slot - there are a total of 16 departures scheduled today as a whole - from 06:30 to 2... (I can't remember - 21:00 or similar) and only 13 arrivals expected - although the Ryanair plane indicating it was flying Brussels Charleroi to Dublin was not down as a scheduled arrival (Ryanair have moved regular Brussels flights from Dublin to Brussels Zaventum a couple of years back, mostly, so it may have been more moving a plane to storage or similar).

Quite surreal to see such empty arrivals and departures pages.
