The Robbing Butcher - Bemused by the Patio at FrogMhor Cottage

What next for the Robbing Butcher?

Will he wander past Mhor Cottage several times a day so that he can keep an eye on the progress of the patio?

Will Mr. Mhor's measurements turn out to be wrong? And will Mustress Mhor and her DH have too many SLABS as a result?

If they do, what will they do with them?

Will the eggs be dippy tomorrow?

Good morrow, my fellow friends!

It has been brought to my attention that we have amassed a large following of fans who obsess over us and dissect and look for secret meaning in all our posts.

Here’s the coded message:

I had porridge for breakfast, and stirred exactly one spoon of smooth peanut butter in it.

I will transmit the decoding sheet separately, split between two independent channels. 😏

Cuttingthegrass · 22/02/2020 09:15

Where are these large gathering of fans?

Awaits decoding sheet

Bread in bread maker on rapid and will have to have brunch not breakfast .... DP out so will have to attempt own egg

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 09:26

I am told they congregate on the more plebeian corners of the Internet, personally I don’t sully my keyboard typing up the web address. Wink

Cuttingthegrass · 22/02/2020 09:54

On a completely separate note DD prepared her first roast... with leg of lamb... and it was exquisite. Pink meat, flavoured, oh so tender. And with all the roasted veg and broccoli and cauliflower cheese and homemade red wine and red current jelly gravy.

I am obviously a good teacher Grin

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 10:02

Sounds delicious!
Now impress us in truly MN fashion by revealing DD is 6 years old Grin

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 10:05

Really, Worfs?

I await further developments.

Meanwhile...….

DISMAY ABOUNDS

There was general consternation and dismay abounded in a small Scottish village this morning when the fridge at the butcher's shop broke down.

Mr. Mac*** (known affectionately as the Robbing Butcher) was unable to open his doors as a result.

Villagers have long been puzzled by the irregular and incomprehensible opening hours at the shop, and as one woman (identified as the Mustress Mhor) said to our correspondent, "He was always closed when you thought he would be open and open when you thought he would be closed. But to be closed because his fridge has broken down is a new low."

So I've made it into the local paper at last.

7Worfs... I wouldn’t want to brag too much Grin

So what are we all having for dinner tonight? I have decided on duck breasts, hopefully with pink meat .. need to keep up standards, SW Cumberland sauce, creamy leeks and puréed parsnip.

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 10:08

Fridge broken down?
Is there any produce that needs eating urgently?

Cuttingthegrass · 22/02/2020 10:08

A true celeb is amongst us.

Well there maybe more but they haven’t officially told us when they’ve made headlines as Mhor has

I’m up for lining the streets to wave my Mhor flag for you on your way to the Robbing Butcher

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 10:21

Mr. Mhor was waiting (with some impatience) for me to return with the Stornoway black pudding.

Imagine his discomfiture when I had to break the bad news to him.

I forgot to tell you all yesterday that the RB was boasting to me about the eggs in his shop.

He alleged that his supplier had "got some new hens" and as a result, "the eggs are bigger".

I expressed doubt but he showed me some eggs from the old hens and some eggs from the new hens.

The eggs from the new hens were definitely bigger.

that'll be why he charges so fucking much for them

Actually, Worfs raises an interesting point.

If the fridge at the Robbing Butcher has indeed broken down, would it be in order for me to inquire if Mr. Mhor and I can help him out by eating the fillet steak which would go off otherwise? You know - just to be helpful?

Cutting I am impressed by your DD's success.

It sounds delicious.

Worfs who the hell is interested in our recipes and menus?

I’ve sent a coded message via Papa Mike Wink

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 11:29

Coded message received, Worfs.

Response sent.

And...…………

Yesterday, Mr. Mhor produced a large shoulder of lamb from the depths of the freezer and requested roast dinner for tonight.

I am therefore going to cook roast lamb. Yes, I know that's supposed to be Sunday dinner.

But...….

Many years ago I was awake at 2 a.m. and this occurred when absolutely everyone else in the Mhor family was staying elsewhere for the night, for various reasons.

I really, really fancied a roast chicken dinner.

So by 2.30 it was in the oven and I was peeling potatoes.

Oh, that dinner. I was eating it at quarter to five in the morning.

Sublime.

OP posts:
7Worfs · 22/02/2020 12:22

Mhor help - how do you defrost the whole shoulder?

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 12:34

I am at a loss to understand the purport of your question, Worfs.

I defrost the whole shoulder in the same way that I defrost everything else.

Stick it on a plate and secrete it in a cupboard so that the cats do not decide to feast upon it.

So hungry 😋, please pass the square sausage and fried eggs! .
( lamb for later will be fine too!)

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 14:11

It’s such a huge lump it would take too long to defrost, I fear. By the time the middle is thawed, the edges will have turned green I thought?

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 14:19

7 does your oven not have a defrost setting?
On fan ovens it's displayed as fan only , no top or bottom elements.
I managed to defrost an enormous turkey in mine , in only a few hours 😃

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 14:27

This weather is really getting me down , I'm not thriving or surviving!
Even the Tesco delivery driver suggested I try a sad light!.
It's not the constrain rain so much as the grey skies and boredom Sad

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 14:51

Oh, thanks for that, jeff!

I like gloomy weather - hot chocolate and a film?

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 14:57

7 nice suggestion but I'm still on Keto , no hot chocolate for me ! ☹️.
I'm enjoying other thread though! 😀

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 16:00

Huh.

Do not mention Keto or 5/2.

Or 16:8.

I have fallen off the wagon.

Encourage me, comrades.

I have lost 6 stone over the last two years.

Now? Well, I could do with losing another four or five. But I was doing so well. So well.

Now? I keep sabotaging myself.

Hmm
