Blimey. Married for 27 years.

it’s more accurate to say he’s bi isn’t it? After being married for so long

No actually it isn't. I was married to a secretly gay man for 30 years. He wasn't bi - some gay men are perfectly capable of sex with a woman. My gay ex had been in a relationship with another man for 6 years and I didn't have a clue. They can be very Jekyll and Hyde and compartmentalise their lives. So many gay men marry women simply because they are afraid to come out.

I hope Schofield's wife is ok. She has my sympathy as it is always the gay men who come out that are considered brave, while the wives and children's feelings are forgotten. It is not that they are gay that's the issue but they have lied and made promised vows, in some cases for most of their adult life. It's too long and painful for a discussion on MN because no doubt in this woke world I'll be called homophobic when I am not. My ex's lies destroyed my family.

He is going to get a lot of public support with everyone saying how brave he is and how proud they are of him.

His wife and children who were probably blindsided by this, will melt into the background and not receive as much support. Although, in my opinion, this is probably harder for his wife than it is for him. Due to the fact that she thought she knew who she married, but she did not know him at all.

I mentioned on here years ago about a male friend of mine sleeping with him in the '90s - he said it was common knowledge that PS wasn't heterosexual. I was poo pood by everyone!

Whynosnowyet · 07/02/2020 10:15

His dark thoughts he talked about were likely guilt at deceiving his dw...

theemmadilemma · 07/02/2020 10:15

Fuck me of all the times I go for a shower.

Rosehip10 · 07/02/2020 10:15

Suspect there was going to be a revealing tabloid "scoop" published.

LavaLamp5566 · 07/02/2020 10:15

Umm... Julian Clary came out a while ago, He's been married to a man named Ian since 2016 @Hoppinggreen [If your comment was a joke, please ignore this. Head reeling and sinus infection for this tired Mum]

supercee · 07/02/2020 10:15

Whilst it's all well and good that he doesn’t live a lie anymore, what about his wife, who has given 27 years of marriage to a guy who hasn’t loved her in the way she thought he has?

Now big Phil (attractive in his older years like a lot of men) can go away and hook up with a no doubt younger attractive guy and what’s she going to get? Hopefully lasting happiness but it's always harder for the woman.

And yes, very coincidental with the bad press he's been getting lately.

Sagradafamiliar · 07/02/2020 10:15

There's nothing brave about it. He's not a victim of anything. He's lied about his sexuality for years- yeah what lovely news.

sunshinesupermum · 07/02/2020 10:15

Escapethecastle Happy - definitely not. Supportive - not too sure about that either. But hey it's all to minimise any fall out for Schofield so that statement must be true, mustn't it?

Miljea · 07/02/2020 10:15

I don't follow sleb gossip, so no idea about wives etc - but I had assumed he was gay anyway!

TrippingOnSunshine · 07/02/2020 10:15

Eamonn still thinks he's a twat obvs

wowfudge · 07/02/2020 10:16

Oh come on - if there have been rumours for years - I've heard them - and people are unsurprised then I doubt very much his family didn't know. A bit like a son keeping this from his mother and she's always known.

MrTumbleTumble · 07/02/2020 10:16

I hope his wife and kids are ok.

I always hate hearing how brave people are for coming out after several years of marriage, and how awful it has been for them to "have to" hide for so long. No one ever seems to think of the people they have hurt and deceived along the way.

AndThenThereWereSeven · 07/02/2020 10:16

I'm so glad LGBTQ+ kids can (hopefully, by and large) come out when they are young and not go through/put other people through this.

Mrsjayy · 07/02/2020 10:16

I paused the Tv because Phil was on TM wow i am turning myself inside out with the cringe somebody was going to out him Imo I don't know if his wife always knew all along ?

Drum2018 · 07/02/2020 10:16

Eamon: 'As long as Steph and the girls are happy' - ya, I'm sure Steph is ecstatic that her husband is gay Hmm

lalafafa · 07/02/2020 10:17

its been known for years, his wife probably knew too. I bet there was something outing due in a newspaper.

WitchitaMickey · 07/02/2020 10:17

Just tuned in, Ruth looks like she is enjoying it Grin

TrixieFranklin · 07/02/2020 10:18

Eamon and Ruth seems a bit put out by it

@LavaLamp5566 - yes the poster was taking the piss. As in it's been obvious (to them) that Philip Schofield has been gay for years.

LizzieSiddal · 07/02/2020 10:18

This has been well known for decades in the media/TV business.

I feel so sorry for his wife and DDs, he's been lying to them for years. I hope they get proper support.

Nanalisa60 · 07/02/2020 10:19

Well done him for finally telling the truth, I don’t think it will have been a surprise to his wife.

Mrsjayy · 07/02/2020 10:19

I wasn't cringing because he is gay it was such a cringy interview Holly made it so breathy and awkward
