Performances that have ruined films/tv shows

I'm watching Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version not the Keira Knightley version). P&P is my favourite book and I've watched the show loads but I almost have to fast forward the bits with Alison Steadman (Mrs Bennet). Yes, she's meant to be a bit ridiculous and dramatic but she plays her like an overly- shrill screeching pantomime dame. Ruins the show. Brenda Blethyn did a much better job.

It's pretty scrap to start off with, but Adam Driver as Ultimate evil Kylo Run in the Star Wars franchise.
He looks like a 5 year old throwing a tantrum

DollyDaydream70 · 06/02/2020 21:33

I might get shot down in flames for this, but you asked the question! Kate Winslet as Rose in Titanic really grated on me. I just didn't find her authentic in the part, I thought her acting was corny. I loved the movie at the time, but something about her performance always got on my nerves.

Lady Mary, Downton Abbey. Monotone and wooden. I saw her in something else and she was exactly the same (like James Martin on Saturday kitchen).

Russell Crowe in the Les Miserables film.

Dowser · 06/02/2020 21:54

I love alison steadman but you are so right glummy ..she did overact it

Dowser · 06/02/2020 21:57

Robert Downey in Doolittle..I thought he was playing capn jack sparrows dad at one point
Awful
He needs to very ashamed of himself

HugeAckmansWife · 06/02/2020 22:02

Someone beat me to RC in LesMis. My school did it that year and our Javert was better than him.

HugeAckmansWife · 06/02/2020 22:03

And actually KK in P&P too. Silly, pouty mouth all the way through it.

HaHaHmmmm · 06/02/2020 22:04

@hercwasonaroll totally agree! But he was not the only one, I think all the main parts were miscast, big names to pull in the money with scant regard for acting or singing ability 😡

HaHaHmmmm · 06/02/2020 22:06

But I can't agree about Alison Steadman, I thought she was great!

Peanutbutteryogurt · 06/02/2020 22:08

David Tennant in goblet of fire. Wtf was he doing.

LittleMissNaice · 06/02/2020 22:10

Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Just awful. It's like she's in a completely different film to everyone else

Absolutepowercorrupts · 06/02/2020 22:13

All actors in Robin Hood Prince of thieves, with the exception of the late, great and utterly fabulous Alan Rickman. Morgan Freeman wasn't too bad either

RedRec · 06/02/2020 22:15

Remember when Vic Reeves turned up in Coronation Street? Ugh. It makes me cringe to think of it even now.

Violetparis · 06/02/2020 22:16

Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, I couldn't watch the film because of her.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 06/02/2020 22:21

Stephen Graham in the current TV series about the Jeremy Bamber murders. His Welsh accent is SO bad it has me shouting at the screen.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/02/2020 22:21

The actres who played Jenny Lee in Call the midwife. Far to wooden.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/02/2020 22:22

I thought Alison S was great as well.

MinesaPinot · 06/02/2020 22:23

Agreeing with previous posters who said Russell Crowe in Les Mis. I wasn't keen on High Jackman either (butloved him in The greatest Showman). 'Stars' from Les Mis is one of my favourite songs from the show but RC seemed to sing it in a nasally monotone. I was so disappointed.

madeyemoodysmum · 06/02/2020 22:25

Agree with KK in pp and also love actually

Agree Andries mcdowell in four weddings

I love Alison steadman tho

Bonnie Wright in Harry Potter.

LoseLooseLucy · 06/02/2020 22:25

Came on to say Stephen Graham in White House Farm, it is the worst Welsh accent I have ever heard.

Stephen Merchant in anything, but especially the new film Jojo Rabbit.

Oliack1417 · 06/02/2020 22:28

Yes to Andie Macdowell in 4 weddings - just awful

StCharlotte · 06/02/2020 22:29

I second Lady Mary in Downton Abbey. Worst acting I've ever seen.

Also the weird comedy duo (one was from Bread) in Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. The film was bad enough without these two being shoe-horned in.

UnleashTheFury · 06/02/2020 22:30

Kristin Stewart as Bella in Twilight.

Worst acting ever.

Womenwotlunch · 06/02/2020 22:31

Nicholas Cage in practically everything
Leo De Caprio in Gangs of New York, particularly as he was in the presence of an acting legend ,Daniel Day Lewis
Most of the young kids in Coronation Street
