Performances that have ruined films/tv shows

I'm watching Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version not the Keira Knightley version). P&P is my favourite book and I've watched the show loads but I almost have to fast forward the bits with Alison Steadman (Mrs Bennet). Yes, she's meant to be a bit ridiculous and dramatic but she plays her like an overly- shrill screeching pantomime dame. Ruins the show. Brenda Blethyn did a much better job.

Keanu Reeves in Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Anne Hathaway in anything.

Not so much the acting but in The Irishman I couldn’t get past how old the actors looked when they were supposed to be young. Made the timescales feel all wrong.

Totally agree about Emma Thompson, Alan. It always looks like the head girl has walked on stage. Also Meryl Streep - "Hello, I'm Meryl Streep and I'm Acting".

Every British child actor. Why can American kids act convincingly and ours just can’t. They’re so stilted and wooden.

Have to agree with this- when you see the young lad who played Mowgli in the recent live action film. He was brilliant, and was acting against a green scene without physical actors to bounce off.

Then the cast of Harry Potter, working with great directors, a who’s-who of British acting talent and legends. You’d think some of that experience would sink in a bit through osmosis.

But no. Harry’s expression when he’s told he’s a wizard looks like he’s just found out he’s got off at the wrong bus stop. It doesn’t get any better throughout the following seven films.

Derek Thompson as Charlie Fairhead in every episode of Casualty he was ever in, which is pretty much all of them for over three decades and counting.

Don't forget rubbing the back of his head while looking like he's got wind.

I've always had a sneaking admiration for Derek Thomson. He's found his niche, he's done it well (nobody expects decent acting in Casualty so it's a low bar perhaps) and I assume it makes him a decent enough living. No faffing about having to do auditions or get involved in new projects for decades now Grin Talk about how to make it work for you. Actors are always going on about job insecurity, the hustle etc and Derek's just gone 'nah'.

Bloody Daniel Day Lewis.

‘Look at me, Ma! I’m acting!’
