Performances that have ruined films/tv shows

I'm watching Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version not the Keira Knightley version). P&P is my favourite book and I've watched the show loads but I almost have to fast forward the bits with Alison Steadman (Mrs Bennet). Yes, she's meant to be a bit ridiculous and dramatic but she plays her like an overly- shrill screeching pantomime dame. Ruins the show. Brenda Blethyn did a much better job.

Aiden Gillen. In absolutely everything he's in. We groan when we see him. He's a dose

SpaceDinosaur · 06/02/2020 22:32

Edina Menzel as Elsa in Frozen. Her diction is notoriously bad.

"I'm leva goin back, ler pas is in ler paaaaaaas"

"The col leva bothered me anyway"

And now I've pointed it out, good luck ignoring it!

I could go on... and on... and on... her diction in almost everything she has ever belted makes me want to scream!!! 🤪

Yes to Andie Macdowell in 4 weddings.
Also Sofia Coppola in Godfather part 3

YY to Alison Steadman - Mrs Bennett-as-panto-dame. Brenda Blethyn blew her out of the water!

Kristen Stewart in everything she is in. Awful actress!!

RightOnTheEdge · 06/02/2020 22:33

Omg yes! Completely agree with Bonnie Wright. She ruined Ginnie Angry

Womenwotlunch · 06/02/2020 22:34

I Agree Sofia Coppola singlehandedly ruined Godfather 3. Her ‘acting’ was embarrassing AF. She had the good sense to become a director though

See I cannot stand Russel Crow. In anything. But I adore his singing ‘Stars’ in Les Mis. It’s one of my favorites.

Disclaimer* I was a bit tipsy when I watched it, so got emotional. May explain my youthful relationships when I met and dated people I met in clubs (well Discos. Old fart here).

Chickenwing · 06/02/2020 22:41

Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. The dumbledore from first 2 films would never have grabbed Harry to say "did you put your name in the goblet of fire." Richard Harris was much more gentle and portrayed him much better.

Dylanpickle · 06/02/2020 22:44

Nicholas Cage in Captain Corelli.....well Nicolas cage in anything TBH, apart from Gone in 60 seconds. Con air is an abomination.

Cameron Diaz, I've never got her acting appeal. She is exactly the same character in every film.

Comefromaway · 06/02/2020 22:49

Another vote for Russell Crowe in Les Mis (& whatshisname Jonas in the 25th anniversary performance)

Patch23042 · 06/02/2020 22:50

Daphne’s brothers in Frasier.

PickUpThePieces · 06/02/2020 22:51

Richard Madden in 1917.
Thoroughly enjoyed the film until his big moment at the end of the film which was reminiscent of Julie Walters aka Mrs Overall looking into the middle distance in Acorn Antiques.

Danceisforlife · 06/02/2020 22:52

Josie Foster in The Silence Of The Lambs.. can't stand her voice!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/02/2020 22:54

Gary Oldman in Leon. It's a thoroughly creepy film anyway, and then he starts chewing the scenery.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 06/02/2020 22:59

KK in Pride & Prejudice
Emma Watson in ANYTHING

takes a deep breath

Daniel Radcliffe- Harry Potter
Bonnie Wright- Harry Potter
Wesley Twin 1- Harry Potter
Wesley Twin 2- Harry Potter
Michael Gambon- Harry Potter
Emma Watson- Harry Potter
Tonks- Harry Potter

Honestly I could have picked a more charismatic and talented cast from the attendees from my last speed awareness course.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/02/2020 23:03

The adult actor who played Moaning Myrtle in the Chamber of Secrets. Where do you start with the wrong?

AutumnCrow · 06/02/2020 23:03

I had to sit through so many Harry Potter films with the DC when they were young. Good stories, but dear god. You know who I'm going to say, right?

AutumnCrow · 06/02/2020 23:05

@TerribleCustomerCervix my stand-out dud is definitely Daniel Radcliffe

Womenwotlunch · 06/02/2020 23:09

@Dylanpickle- Nicholas Cage ruined Con Air. From his stupid hair piece to his monotone voice

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/02/2020 23:17

I won’t hear a word against Lady Mary. The whole Downton thing had totally passed me by, then DD and I binged them all in about two weeks when she was home last summer.

For months we went around saying, “But what would Lady Mary do?”

And don’t get me started on Matthew, who has totally ruined DD for mortal men. “He’s no Matthew,” she sighs after each of her Hinge disappointments. Starting to fear I shall never have grandchildren because of Downton.

AgentCooper · 06/02/2020 23:22

Yes to Stephen Graham in White House Farm. And he’s normally so good! Glad it’s not just me...

Rana’s mum in Corrie a while ago. More wooden than a Christmas tree shop.

Sarcelle · 06/02/2020 23:27

Dev in Corrie. Stopped watching it a few years back. Assume he is still in it.

Lady Mary as mentioned, like a wooden wardrobe.

Ross Kemp as Grant.

Doryhunky · 06/02/2020 23:29

Jenny Lee is so cold.

darktriad · 06/02/2020 23:34

I thought Kristen Stewart was awful until I saw her in Still Alice, she gave a really good performance. Anna Friel in anything
