After the old school reading thread, who else loved point horror!?

OP posts:

I loved Point Horror, remember saving my pocket money to go into town on a Saturday to get one and then finish it before teatime. Dm bought me a couple from a charity shop for my birthday a couple of years ago (jokey present) to go with a Point Horror tote bag which I use all the time.

Ooh, I loved these - I kept them all and my dd has read them too. I don’t think she was as into them as I was though. One in particular “the vampire”? I used to read over and over again!!

Also “point romance“ remember those? The geeky girl who had a makeover on the night of the prom and was crowned prom queen (Mary-Beth?)

I am not sure if it was Point Horror, but does anyone remember a story of a girl who had an abortion, and the foetus (somehow) came back and terrorised her? You didn't know it was the foetus till the end.

Shock What?! I don't remember that one but it sounds really weird (even for a Point Horror!). The stories are so crazy, I love them.

GallusAlice79 · 02/02/2020 19:26

I know, it was incredibly weird!!!

But definitely out at same time, in similar vein.

GallusAlice79 · 02/02/2020 19:31

Whisper of death by Christopher Pike apparently!!!

WeeM · 02/02/2020 19:32

I totally loved point horrors! Couldn’t have told you what any of them were about now but I remember all the titles now I see them here-would love to read them again now.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 02/02/2020 19:39

@bottlenose301 used to love Sweet Valley..those perfect twins!! Then towards the end those went a bit bonkers...bloke who thought he was a werewolf...someone who was a Vampire

Starburst8 · 02/02/2020 20:30

Did anyone hear about the television anthology series? It was announced in Nov 2019 but I've not heard anything else

Loved Point Horror Grin

R L Stine was a firm favourite. The first PH I got was a big paperback, 3 books in one (all R L Stine, I believe). It was The Boyfriend, The Girlfriend and The Babysitter.

I loved how they were all about 16 but seemed sooo grown up. They could all drive and had cars and had lovely big bedrooms with a phone in their room and cruised about to the mall and homecoming dances and bonfires etc. Loved it Xmas Wink

I also liked Caroline B Cooney; I think she wrote Freeze Tag? That was one on my favourites, not because it was particularly scary but I just liked the story and the way it was written (LOL).

Also liked the Nightmare Hall series. I can remember waiting patiently for each new one to be released and reading them oh so carefully to keep them in good condition because "these will be worth something someday" GrinGrinGrin I think I gave up when they just started churning them out at a crazy speed and I think they got charity shopped years ago 😭

Starburst8 · 02/02/2020 21:01

I have freeze tag. I remember enjoying that one.
I think I might have to go on ebay and buy some more (yes I'm probably 25+ years too old for them)

What does everyone recommend? (I did post awhile back a pic of the ones I've got)
JacquesHammer · 03/02/2020 10:49

Starburst - my recommendations would be: -

Funhouse
Beach House
The Diary
The Bride
Teacher's Pet
Hit and Run
Halloween Night
Dream Date
The Train
The Waitress
Twins
The Accident
Mother's Helper

JacquesHammer · 03/02/2020 10:51

Sorry if I've duplicated any - I can't see any images on the thread for some reason!

ActualHornist · 03/02/2020 13:51

I’m going to buy Twins and read it conspicuously around my twin boys Grin

Stabbitha · 03/02/2020 14:30

I've now read Beach House and The Watcher because of this thread.

The Dead Girlfriend and The Invitation were my favourite.

Lovingmylife · 03/02/2020 15:12

Just reread the babysitter. Not quite so exciting as when I was 11 but still good to bring back memories.

Starburst8 · 03/02/2020 16:22

Thanks for the suggestions, I've got a few mentioned 😊
Think I'm gonna try Twins. I vaguely remember reading it.
