After the old school reading thread, who else loved point horror!?

OP posts:
celebratingrita · 30/01/2020 17:16

I read all of them, the only one I remenber which for some reason I thought was profound (?!) was Sati by Christopher Pike.

celebratingrita · 30/01/2020 17:18

Anyone read Judy Blume? There was the novel where she lost her virginity and I remember going to the library one lunchtime specifically to read the well thumbed pages!

Figgygal · 30/01/2020 17:18

Oh I loved these
Scared the shit out of me

The accident was a favourite too

StarspaXxX · 30/01/2020 18:47

celebratingrita No way! Which was that?!

ActualHornist · 31/01/2020 14:30

Sati was the sexy vampire I think. I vaguely remember reading that one.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 31/01/2020 14:51

I loved these too! Remember spending hours in WHSmith trying to decide which one to buy Grin

Christopher Pike was my favourite, he's written some adult horror too. The Season of Passage, The Cold One and The Listeners if I remember rightly. Might have to dig them out again!

Daisychainsandglitter · 31/01/2020 19:34

Sati was a story about a girl who believed she was god. It was quite a spiritual book and very different to a lot of his other books

Spieluhr · 31/01/2020 19:41

I loved these books. The Cheerleader was the first PH I read. I was 9 then and I read it over and over. April Fools was another favourite.

My all time favourite though was a Point Horror called The Stranger. It was more tragic than horror and was about a boy called Jethro who turned into a creature made of stone after falling into a cavern and being abandoned by his Father. I thought that it was one of the saddest things I'd ever read as a teen and I still have my copy. Does anyone else remember it?

heymammi · 01/02/2020 14:17

I was just thinking about point horror the other day. I absolutely loved them, but sadly mine are all gone so might have to have a look on kindle. I remember getting so excited finding the new PH book, I moved to Virginia Andrew's books after that and built quite a collection 😊

Stabbitha · 01/02/2020 21:06

I had all 3 babysitter ones in a single hard back book but I can't find it. Gutted.

Stabbitha · 01/02/2020 21:08

I posted a picture of the ones I could five but it's not posting. Also gutted.

Livedandlearned · 01/02/2020 21:09

@StarspaXxX the Judy Blume book is called Forever.

I loved Point Horror. I'd probably read them now, for a bit of nostalgia.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/02/2020 21:17

@LadyTabasco it was called The Vampire. It involved the main character sucking the life of of girls with qualities that she envied, iirc. Celeste was definitely the first girl, but I can't remember the rest...

Starburst8 · 01/02/2020 21:18

@stab the app doesn't post my pics, I have to post using the website.

I'm loving everyone listing their books. It's very nostalgic!
GonnaBeMaayy · 01/02/2020 21:31

I loved the Christopher Pike books The Midnight Club or the book club or something like that?

Obsidian77 · 01/02/2020 21:38

Great thread! I'd completely forgotten about these.
Loved Christopher Pike.

VideographybyLouBloom · 01/02/2020 21:42

I lived for Point Horror in the 90s. I think my favourite was The Beach House - really creepy to a 13 year old me and a good twist at the end. I also remember one with a twist involving the March twins but can’t remember the name of the book - can anyone help me out?

stairway · 01/02/2020 22:56

I liked Caroline b cooney. She I did a series of books I think they were called the fog, the fire and something else. It was about island girls whose foster parents tried to unravel their personality.

stairway · 01/02/2020 22:58

Sita was the vampire by Christopher pike, there were quite a few of those books. I like the midnight club too with ilonka.

PixieN · 02/02/2020 08:55

Brilliant thread - absolutely loved point horror. They got me through the last family caravan holiday we had when I was in my teens. I spent all my pocket money buying them at the campsite and being completely antisocial lol.

@ActualHornist I remember that one. Wasn’t the girl resigned to having to read over people’s shoulders and only getting glimpses of books depending on the reader? Sounded like a nightmare to me!

Does anyone remember ‘Class Trip’ by Bebe Faas Rice? Not Point Horror, but similar style. I loved that book. First person narration where the characters go off on a class trip and get killed off one by one. Such a good twist at the end.

JacquesHammer · 02/02/2020 09:51

PixieN

I still have it Grin it was published as part of a series called Nightmares. I have another 4 in the same series. Really fun book!

ActualHornist · 02/02/2020 12:25

@PixieN - yes that was it! The ending sentence was something like ‘hell was having all the books in the world but no way to read them’. There was also a sentence that has stayed with me - she was like a deep sea fish devouring books with just a skinny ribbon of body trailing behind. Or something similar lol!

deareloise · 02/02/2020 12:29

Annabel. The story was called Something To Read.

She’s sent to a school disco because her parents are concerned she doesn’t socialise enough. She spends some time looking disparagingly at students and teachers alike then gets a book and sits by the pool to read it. A girl then disturbs her, they have an argument that ends with Annabel being knocked unconscious and falling into the pool and drowning. She then is not remotely bothered by her death, or by the distress of her teachers and parents, she just goes to the school library to read. But as others have noted, she can’t pick the book up Grin

GallusAlice79 · 02/02/2020 12:42

I am not sure if it was Point Horror, but does anyone remember a story of a girl who had an abortion, and the foetus (somehow) came back and terrorised her? You didn't know it was the foetus till the end.

bottlenose301 · 02/02/2020 12:54

I loved Point Horror too! And a Christopher Pike. When I got a bit older I lost interest in the end because I found the killer to become a bit predictable (usually the best friend lol)

But looking back they were great and I
Might even try and purchase a load if I can find them for my DD (me)

I also loved sweet valley high!
