After the old school reading thread, who else loved point horror!?

OP posts:
GulliBelle · 26/01/2020 15:49

As a result of this thread I've just spent a happy Sunday afternoon listening to them on youtube!

Mojitomogul · 26/01/2020 15:57

Omg I loved these books!!! Dream date was one of my favourites. And Beach Party and Camp Fear! Perfect quick sunday read might have to go and get them out the loft.

Likethebattle · 26/01/2020 16:13

The Vampire was the sequel to The Cheerleader. There was one about a party where poor kids were invited as entertainment. I think it was The Invitation. There was a similar Genre under a different name. One book involved a girl escaping her abusive life on a bus. She meets a girl travelling to stay with a pen pal, she kills the girls and assumes her identity...were these maybe point crime?

Likethebattle · 26/01/2020 16:16

Remember Me by Christopher Pike was the one with the Air bubbles in the blood. The dead sister had been swapped at birth with the girlfriend who found out.

RightEarlobeBreath · 26/01/2020 16:32

I loved The Diary and was obsessed with The Forbidden Game series. As a teen I could never understand how she couldn’t pick Julian 😂

Also a weird one with a twin inside her mind who wanted a turn at controlling the body. Twins called Dove and Wing I think.

I want to reread them now!

SmellMySmellbow · 26/01/2020 16:33

Loved them so much. Which one had a series of murders in a spa? One locked in a steam room, one with a lid put over the jacuzzi... I've never been able to relax in a steam room since!

whydoihavetogothroughsomuch · 26/01/2020 20:21

Yes I loved them!!

LemonRedwood · 26/01/2020 22:52

Were there a couple of books with lots of short stories in them too? I vaguely remember one about a couple of graffiti artists and a train tunnel and one of the graffiti artists went missing but the next time his friend went through the tunnel on a train, a spark lit it up for a bit and the tunnel was covered in the first guy's graffiti. Except his friend thought it weird that he'd changed from his usual colour of blue to bright red.

It was so implicit. It's stayed with me since I read it (over 25 years ago!).

LemonRedwood · 26/01/2020 22:53

RightEarlobe I remember Dove and Wing! Wing was the evil inside twin, only named after part of the bird, she didn't get to be whole like her sister!

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 26/01/2020 23:01

Loved these books! There was also Point Romance I think... not as good though!

I liked the Christopher Pike ones, pretty sure Remember Me was my fave. Looking back now these books were a bit weird!

RightEarlobeBreath · 26/01/2020 23:19

Oooh yes Lemon ! I remember at the time I read it thinking the names were so clever to represent that but also thinking Wing was a bit of an odd name compared to how pretty Dove sounds 😂

RightEarlobeBreath · 26/01/2020 23:20

Also, I remember one of the Christopher Pike ones that really stayed with me was a girl put ground up glass in some food and another character unknowingly ate it and died. It made me so paranoid!

LemonRedwood · 26/01/2020 23:28

The ground up glass, yes! That was some Greek holiday one, lots of weird god and goddess stuff happening in that one

I need to build up my collection again. Have no idea what happened to it. My mum probably gave them all away to the local library when I went off to uni.

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 26/01/2020 23:30

The Forbidden Game trilogy were my favourite.

Also loved The Snowman

theneighbourswindchime · 27/01/2020 00:02

Anyone remember "the dead girlfriend" ?

I might have to buy them on eBay!

paniquer · 27/01/2020 00:10

I remember the dead girl friend. Poor cat in the spaghetti but who serves spaghetti at a tern house party?

I loved the point horror unleashed. Cecilia Reece blood sinister and the one set in Portugal.

paniquer · 27/01/2020 00:11

Tern = teen

Stabbitha · 27/01/2020 00:26

I loved these.

At the age of 13 I wanted a baby boy just so I could call him West.

Likethebattle · 27/01/2020 17:52

@RightEarlobeBreath it was ‘Goddess’ by Christopher Pike I really wanted to g to Greece after reading it. One that wasn’t horror that he wrote was ‘Sati’ about a girl who said she was god and had been born
In the desert a few days before.

Chanel05 · 27/01/2020 18:21

I loved The Window and Teacher's Pet. Loved the name Tawney! I'm definitely on Amazon now buying some.

DisinterestedParty · 27/01/2020 18:31

Loved them especially the short story collections, I think they were called 13 Tales of Horror and 13 More Tales of Horror. Scared myself to death reading one of those on a guide camping trip.

And one about twins where they went on a ski trip and one murdered the other on a ski lift or something. I loved that one.

DisinterestedParty · 27/01/2020 18:32

THIS

it was huge at my school, everyone read it.

ActualHornist · 27/01/2020 18:43

God I loved them.

Our local library wouldn’t stock them for some reason, my dad would drive me to Stanmore for them!

I had a collection of about 30 which I really wish I hadn’t car booted when I was about 16.

My favourite was The Fever, but the ones by Christopher Pike were the best.

elf81 · 27/01/2020 18:47

This was also my favourite. I even named my daughter the same name has the heroine. I fell in love with the name the first time I read it at 14.

ChloeDecker · 27/01/2020 18:48

In November 2019, it was announced that Point Horror would be adapted into an anthology series for TV on HBO!!!!
