A thread intended for menus, cats and idle chit-chat.

I make mayonnaise with them. Or enrich a cheese sauce or mashed potato. Home made mayo is unrecognisable compared to shop bought 😋

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/01/2020 12:56

Re the cheese mountain. For some reason I had a mental block and felt the need to buy Stilton on every shopping trip. Plus the various varieties of cheeses I felt were needed to make the cheese board look pretty.

Also we are a family of five since we lost my DPs but I still shop as though they were with us for ChristmasSad

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 13:39

It seems this thread is being watched!

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 13:39

How long do you think it will take you and Mr. Fleas to eat all the cheese, myimaginarycat?

It must have been a difficult first Christmas without your DPs.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/01/2020 13:40

Oh, and we do have a second fridge, for Christmas use only BlushGrin

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 13:40

Stilton makes a lovely edition to cheese sauce by the way! 😋

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 13:42

You're right about Stilton and cheese sauce, jeff.

Also soup.

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 13:43

Oh Lord.

Myimaginarycat you have to be my older sister.

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 13:44

Right, Wendy I would like your mayonnaise recipe please.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 13:46

Ohh soup mur , maybe we can think of things to help use up Stilton .... even maybe Stilton mayonnaise... I may have gone too far 😃

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/01/2020 13:48

If Mr Fleas had his way it would be gone in seconds but I have to watch out for his heart even if he doesn't!

My DPs lived abroad and came home to us for Christmas for many years. Then they came to live with us. Sadly both developed dementia and went into care, DF died five years ago and DM just a few weeks ago. Although we haven't had Christmas with them in our home for some years, they were always there and a big part of it in our hearts, and apparently on my shopping list! There will always be a need for champagne to toast them with. Maybe not quite so much cheese...Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/01/2020 13:49

Keep the Stilton recipes coming, I am feeling inspired!

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 13:55

It's this one TheMustressMhor. I know he's controversial but his recipes work and are delicious. I've never had a failure with a JO recipe.

I'm so sorry my that's so heartbreaking, I'm used to cooking for 4 , so my DH complains about quantity! I do have dd and ds but they eat separate for reasons I won't bore you with!
Ps Stilton stuffed mushrooms?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 13:57

Blue cheese mayonnaise is indescribably good. Especially home made.

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 13:57

I'm so sorry about that Myimaginarycat and I can see why you've stocked up.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 13:57

Maybe I didn't go far enough!!😃

goldierocks · 26/01/2020 13:58

Alas no cheese recipes, but I can recommend a lush topping for ice cream - melted mars bars. You have to do it the old fashioned way, i.e. in a bowl over a pan of boiling water. If you've got a sweet tooth it's well worth the effort imvho.

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:00

pear + walnut or pecan + blue cheese is my favourite combination.

In a salad, warm salad or in a tart if in the baking mood.

TheMustressMhor · 26/01/2020 14:01

Oh, and goldierocks you must also be my older sister, as she is inordinately fond of egg white.

Mine too, Juliet!

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:06

I freeze cheese, it does seem to go more crumbly.. Is this an option?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/01/2020 14:17

I'm worried that I may have exaggerated the scale of the problem! Also that the thread may become overly cheesy Grin

We are making serious inroads and I should be able to report an empty cheese drawer before too long. Have discovered a cauliflower, Stilton and macaroni bake that I seem to remember was quite successful.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 14:20

My no thread could ever be too cheesy!
