A thread intended for menus, cats and idle chit-chat.

Sounds a bit like polenta cake maybe?

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 23:27

7Worfs

Grits never featured on school dinner menus in London.

I have seen them mentioned in true-crime books, when they are talking about the cuisine (?) in American prisons.

I hope your baby is back to normal.

I am so glad I hid that stupid thread. I now have this idiotic vision of it imploding.

I enjoyed every school dinner I ever ate. I was never fussy and ate everything.

And tonight? Just scrambled eggs and baked beans. That is what I fancied.

Is nobody up for The Great Mhor Marmite and Custard Challenge?

Nice to see you back Mustress.

Marmite plus custard? Well, I didn't think salted caramel would work, so what do I know?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/01/2020 00:04

All is calm on the other thread. A pleasant truce has been negotiated. Everyone is being very polite. It's all rather lovely, long may it continue.

Night all 😴

Ness1234 · 29/01/2020 00:09

Nite to the happy thread

CleansUpDragonPoo · 29/01/2020 00:48

Juliet, my friend makes polenta cake with an orange glaze, it's delicious!

Nighty night all.

BabySharksMummyShark · 29/01/2020 09:22

Goooood morning everyone! I got home ate my weight in Chinese, then passed out putting Toddler Shark to bed! Decent night sleep though! How is everyone?

Mistress thank you for the recipe if i feel braver i will try it!
I cant stand marmite so wont be doing the test 😂

Mistress that is sad about thread 15, i cant believe how it turned (well i can but i dont want to)

7Worfs · 29/01/2020 09:50

I put peanut butter in my porridge this morning - it was alright, but it’s not a match made in heaven. Maybe a match on Tinder that turned into an okay 6-month relationship. 🤔

Dinner is slow cooking - a pork joint in Coke.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/01/2020 10:18

I put peanut butter in my porridge this morning

I'm worried about you 7 - you're not getting enough sleep are you?Grin

CleansUpDragonPoo · 29/01/2020 10:44

Dinner is slow cooking - a pork joint in Coke. ?? Eh? Hope that's typo!

Morning all, BTW.

7Worfs · 29/01/2020 10:52

Mischief The thought of ditching baby and DH and booking myself into a hotel has been a recurrent daydream Crown Smile

Dragon It’s a famous Nigella recipe I think? People also use Dr Pepper and other drinks

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/01/2020 10:55

I know what you're thinking, Dragon. It would certainly sort out 7's sleeping problems.Grin

Hello everyone. Currently sitting at the hospital waiting for follow up blood test on little hippo. GP sent me to the A&E (based on the previous dodgy results) and just been told that they should have done a form instead Confused. Am very confused, but we seem to be booked in for something. Sincerely hope it is bloods and not a tell off.

Dinner was supposed to be a slow cooked beef stew. Depending on wait, we may go for take away pizza...

7Worfs · 29/01/2020 11:11

GracefulHippo hope everything will turn out fine.

Mine is at the stage where he’s just a little bit unwell, which means constant medium level whinging (his heart is not in it), which minimises my empathy and maximises my irritation.
Motherhood is a complex thing! Grin

Wheresthebeach · 29/01/2020 11:24

Here you all are!!!!

Custard is revoltingly slimy....salt and vinegar crisps are the best!

I feel better now...

GracefulHippo · 29/01/2020 11:27

Thank you 7. It is so hard when they are ill, isn’t? I used to be really strict with screen time, but now I throw an Ipad at it (but think mine are older than yours? Little hippo here is 6.

On the bright side, we are getting bloods taken and we have our own little cubicle. Little hippo has the iPad and I have my phone. We also have 4 hot cross buns for emergencies.

GracefulHippo · 29/01/2020 11:28

Noooo! Custard is amazing!!! What else would you eat with that fresh, warm crumble???

Salt and vinegar crisps are pretty good too Smile

yolofish · 29/01/2020 11:48

Fresh warm crumble and cold ice cream... NOW you're talking! Preferably vanilla for the purists, but other flavours are available.

I'm thriving thanks for asking - spent a happy couple of hours painting the shed doors and the outside of the chicken run. Not finished, but good progress.

Wheresthebeach · 29/01/2020 13:06

Ah ice cream....agree vanilla but daughter puts lemon sorbet on it!

Wauden · 29/01/2020 13:10

A French friend made fresh custard for us and it was heavenly. 😘

Also, although she was mild-mannered normally, she was stern about us eating it as soon as it was made, as that makes a difference as you don't want the skin to form.
Apologies to the custard-deniers.

Cindershasacollie · 29/01/2020 13:14

I have slightly crispy pizza snails
And a teenager who has returned

I have baileys ice cream in the freezer
And will chuck a Espresso over a bowl of it later

Get well wishes to little hippo

BabySharksMummyShark · 29/01/2020 14:36

Oh hippo im sorry little hippo is not well! I hope you get out of there quickly! Emergency hot cross buns do sound good!

7 i know what you mean, the whinging does my brain in!

GracefulHippo · 29/01/2020 14:51

Cinders, so happy your teenager is back, celebratory baileys ice cream sounds great!

Thank you everyone! Am home with little hippo! The tests two weeks ago indicated something potentially sinister, but it turned out to just be connected to the flu and values back to normal!!! So happy!! And little hippo had a strawberry glazed doughnut and is now watching TV.

Back to dinner... have put my “slow” cooked beef stew in the oven. But it will only cook for 3.5 hours (I usually do 6) so I raised the temperature from 100C to 140C. And I used the last of the mulled wine I found in a cupboard instead of normal red wine.... this could go very wrong.

< takes another sip of tea to avoid starting cleaning and taking care of laundry >

TheMustressMhor · 29/01/2020 15:09

I see that Baby Hippo is well and Teenager Cinders has returned.

All good. Baby Worfs is whinging - perhaps an emergency hot cross bun would be in order? Although I do not think hot cross buns are for emergencies - they can and should be eaten all day long.

But not with custard.

Or marmite.

I see nobody wants to take a fiver off me. Fair enough.

I shall devise a New Challenge for the Theadites.

That should have said "threadites", obviously.

There is no such word but so what?
