Are Jo Malone diffusers and candle as great as everyone says?

I have some Christmas money and would like to buy a nice candle or diffuser that I can actually smell around the house!

Over the years I’ve had so many different brand diffusers and candle but have never been able to justify spending the amount that the Jo Malone ones cost! Shock

I like a nice strong scent that I can notice as soon as I walk into the room.

If you've had a Jo Malone before how do you rate them? Or what would you recommend instead? Thanks

I havent tried the pomegranate scent, but maybe email Jo Loves and ask which one they would recommend and do they have any samples? I always get some samples of other products when i purchase something from them. Or give the store a call? I made the trip from Shropshire and tracked the store down when i went to London, the staff couldn't help enough and were lovely. It was my moms birthday and they gave her some lovely freebies! Xx

I find the Aldi Lime Basil Diffusers fab and I have been a regular Jo malone customer in the past.

@DrKnickerbocker I’ve had stuff from notino and it was fine. They do cheap Elemis.

Also came on to say bath and body works are the best candles I've Found. I made the DD's walk 27 blocks through the snow on a recent trip to New York to get some.

Need a US contact to send me over some more!!

MurrayTheMonk · 07/01/2020 14:03

I also like sand and fog from TK Max

QueenOfOversharing · 07/01/2020 14:09

Anthropologie do a brand called Capri Blue & their Volcano is so gorgeous! And they do one that is mango & coconut milk which is delicious - might be by Voluspa.

DrKnickerbocker-I just had a little look on eBay and you can get a few bath and body works candles for a bit less than Nostino-I've just taken a punt on one for £22... lets see!

Thanks @CakeWarrior

Nanasueathome · 07/01/2020 15:34

Space NK also stock Jo Loves but only a very small range of the products

Nanasueathome · 07/01/2020 15:34

Jo loves candles are good

DurannieDeckingTheHalls · 07/01/2020 18:42

@Nanasueathome ... thanks... I can get to one of those!

Shannith · 07/01/2020 19:02

Interesting.

I always think JM candles are a bit like a stunt pineapple or Molton Brown in the downstairs loo.

lightnesspixie · 07/01/2020 19:02

And then some

lightnesspixie · 07/01/2020 19:03

The white company do lovely ones less expensive than jo loves or jo malone but lovely. Also neom do superb ones

Patsypie · 07/01/2020 19:15

Is the throw good on Cire Trudon? The reviews are very mixed. I'd love Spiriti Sancti but don't fancy £70 worth of disappointment and regret!

Thelnebriati · 07/01/2020 19:17

I use plain candles and add a few drops of fragrance oil.

MarcyFromCleveland · 07/01/2020 19:26

I was given a diffuser from Pure Natural Therapy for Christmas, I love it, much prefer it to JM.

chillychicken · 07/01/2020 19:29

Seven seventeen candles are lovely. My absolute favourite and the scents are all gorgeous.

Some white company candles are great - seychelles, winter and the sleep candle all seem to have a great scent and throw, regardless of the size of candle, but others just have no throw (pimlico, for example)

I won’t spend out on JM now after being disappointed with their bath oils.

queenofarles · 08/01/2020 09:23

Patsypie I have not tried Spirti sancti.

I’ve tried Solis Rex, Ottoman, Ernesto ,Hupo, Salta.
They all smell Amazing. Wood notes are quite strong They are not a scent you want to spray on yourself or smell it on someone IYKWIM. But at home they smell so luxurious.

aNonnyMouse1511 · 08/01/2020 09:28

Personally I didn’t like the smell of any of them! Bath and body works ones from America are amazing though

Greyhound22 · 08/01/2020 09:43

Try St Eval. About £10 on Amazon. I had the Bay and Rosemary for Christmas it's amazing.

lotusbell · 08/01/2020 21:44

@queenofarles, I got one discounted from John Lewis a while back but can't bear to light it yet as I've so many others to get through, I think its Gabriel. I so want to try Ernesto and it was in the JL sale recently - I dithered and missed it grrrr

queenofarles · 09/01/2020 10:23

lotusbell I tried Gabriel over Christmas period, it’s very festive , the smell reminds me of a tea Blend by French tea makers Marriage Freres.

I lit it up just after it rained one late morning and opened the window , the combination of fresh after rain smell and the candles gave the most divine scent it made my work more enjoyable .Grin

Do use it now as it’s really nice in these winters months. Or keep it till next A/W.!

lotusbell · 09/01/2020 14:53

@queenofarles, thanks for the heads up, i keep taking it out of its box and sniffing but haven't lit yet, my logic being i have a few White Company, Neom and BandBW candles ( for few, read a lot) to get through. I'll burn festive scented ones all round, I suppose it's my favourite scent type.
It strikes me that a lot of the CT scents are quite incense-y and church-y smelling, which I love, but not sure my family will Grin
Just wish I could afford to try a few more!
