Maybe it's sour grapes as I didn't do well but it did occur to me that the test is more to do with gathering data of some kind, not necessarily 'intelligence'. Cambridge Analytica gathered data from facebook quizzes.

hambledon · 02/01/2020 16:38

As someone else mentioned before, the facial recognition test seems to be a bit of an anomaly. I wonder if the aim is actually to gather data on how people perceive expressions depending on skin colour. It seems a strange way to assess recognition just to ask if expressions are the same or different. These tests normally ask you to assess WHICH emotions are being displayed.

MonstranceClock · 02/01/2020 16:46

We did the face test in my psychology degree. It’s more about negative bias towards other races than it is about facial expressions. It takes us longer to recognise similar expressions on faces that are different to ours and we often find it more difficult.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 02/01/2020 16:52

I got mainly bottom 50%.

I did get top 5% for the rotation one though

Unlike a lot of you, I did ok on facial recognition. I would have guessed that verbal reasoning was a strength of mine so skeptical about the whole thing now. And I do think the results are skewed, as someone who does IQ tests for a living, by the self-selecting sample.

I accidentally clicked the wrong answer for the faces a few times as I was panicking about answering as fast as possible!

Thought I had done dreadfully in the spatial working memory but ended up in the top 5%

I think I misread some of the verbal ones - I thought one of them said 'go is to shop' but later realized it must have been 'go is to stop'

Mooserp · 02/01/2020 17:14

some people say they didn't rotate the image to get the answer, I don't think that matters. It is still measuring your reasoning abilities to work out which is correct.

Teachermaths · 02/01/2020 17:15

I did really badly in the emotional intelligence one and this is usually something I'm good at. Surprising that so many of us haven't done well, perhaps static pictures can't sum up emotions very well.

I also thought the rotation bit was really easy. The quiz definitely isn't designed for mobile use.

Meckity1 · 02/01/2020 17:15

I couldn't work out how to answer the first question.

I gave up, I think I'm too thick to be measured.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/01/2020 17:56

I did ok but really struggled to understand what some of the questions were actually asking you to do. I guess part of the challenge right?!

Mooserp · 02/01/2020 18:00

They did give instructions and examples before each section

RhinoskinhaveI · 02/01/2020 18:05

me too....why would they go to all that trouble unless there was something in it for them!

LadyCordeliaVorkosigan · 02/01/2020 18:07

I couldn't see the examples on my phone well, so didn't understand the first puzzle to start with or realise it was the same shape I had to find in the field all the time. But the result doesn't surprise me.

I thought I was some kind of mental rotation wizard but it seems that we all are. Seem I’m in good company Grin

Mounty87 · 02/01/2020 18:35

The rotation bit didn't test rotation as instead you could just look for a 'red and yellow block together,' for example, and click that one.

On the first test, if you do it on a laptop it tells you how many blocks you need to remove, but that advice wasn't on the iPhone version.

NewMumBGentle · 02/01/2020 18:44

Quite happy with my results, especially considering I thought i'd screwed up on a few areas

I scored above average in verbal, planning and attention. Attention surprised me as I think my attention span is shit, but clearly not.

Top 5% for word one and rotation one. 30 for true/false and emotions.

Amortentia · 02/01/2020 19:22

I got top 20% for everything except spatial intelligence and verbal reasoning, I’m bottom 50%. I’m not surprised, as a dyslexic these are areas I would expect to fail in. It’s weird that they don’t ask if you’re dyslexic as this would impact on the results, but I think most dyslexics would get a weird result.

MadameJosephine · 02/01/2020 20:10

Didn’t do too badly, the planning one I couldn’t get the hang of at all but still managed top 50% so was happy with that. The spatial plan one drove me mad and I thought I’d done really badly but was in the top 5% so I guess it must be hard for everyone not just me

violinrosa · 02/01/2020 20:24

My results don't tally with the number of correct answers I had. I'm sure of it.

I cam low on the one I got nearly all green ticks for. I guess time taken is also a factor.

violinrosa · 02/01/2020 20:26

Also I was very high on verbal comprehension (the max) but incredibly low on verbal reasoning (my strongest area usually). Doesn't convince me.

pejorativelyspeaking · 02/01/2020 21:36

I really enjoyed that!
