Run/jog/walk a mile a day in 2020. Join the bandwagon early

Newyearnewarse · 28/12/2019 15:11

I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

Everyone is doing so well i am loving having this to keep me motivated
Exactly how I feel too OP Smile

Did 3.9km today, not sure I'll get a walk done tomorrow but will try!

Question for those who are fitter than me - now that I've got comfortable with the amount that I am doing, am I better to keep the distance the same and work on increasing the speed, or keep a steady pace and increase the distance? Or just do a short, fast walk on days when I am limited for time, and a longer, slower one when I have more time?

Egghead68 · 09/01/2020 13:40

@DebbieFiderer I constantly ask myself this question and answer it by varying it , doing some workouts with greater distance and some with grater speed. Interval work (e.g going as fast as you can for short distances alternating with recovery periods) is also good.

It's a tricky one isn't it! Today I did a bit of both; a longer distance and also pushed myself in terms of speed - I did just under 2km, and my average pace was higher than normal.

WeirdPookah · 09/01/2020 15:28

Nearly worked out a mile route to do instead of sitting in the car. Just that today.

Egghead68 · 09/01/2020 18:13

Ran 2.5 km on treadmill.

ipreferaflan · 09/01/2020 18:45

Almost didn't go today but just managed to get myself out for a quick walk, just over 1 mile.

donttellmetwice · 09/01/2020 19:18

Been feeling low today so was going to skip my walk. Hubby came home and convinced me to go so we popped our lo in the pram and off we went Smile feel better for having achieved it.

Egghead68 · 09/01/2020 21:04

Nice one, dontellmetwice.

circleorsquare · 09/01/2020 22:26

@Newyearnewarse I did go out! Ended up running at 8.30 pm but was pleased I did it. I really didn't feel like running today as had loads of exercise yesterday so went out for a mile walk just to keep my hand in. I do like the motivation it gives me

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/01/2020 23:17

I like the motovation too, otherwise its hard at this time of year, cold, wet, dark.

This evening I knew I needed to go and jog, I also needed something from the supermarket which is about 3/4 mile away so I killed two birds with one stone and jogged there and back. I would probably have jumped into the car in this weather normally so better for the environment too.

ipreferaflan · 10/01/2020 07:50

Managed 2 miles this morning, half jogging half walking.

Egghead68 · 10/01/2020 14:45

Apparently I have walked 1.5 miles today and will do the same going home.
No running today as have spinning and circuits class.

DebbieFiderer · 10/01/2020 16:03

Day off today so I walked my daughter to school. It's half a mile each way, but I went the long way round on the way home this morning to do a full mile without stopping. Then walked the normal route each way this afternoon.

donttellmetwice · 10/01/2020 17:33

Well done everyone!
I had a much better day today and got my mile in by the skin of my teeth. Probably won't take the short route again though!

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/01/2020 18:01

1.4 miles for me today, nearly caught up, total 9.4 miles in 10 days now.

WeirdPookah · 10/01/2020 20:49

Walked again instead of waiting in the car. It feels pretty productive to do that instead of wasting time trying to calm a bored toddler.

Egghead68 · 11/01/2020 09:07

2 miles walking today. No other exercise (except in the unlikely event that I do a few planks at home tonight).

ipreferaflan · 11/01/2020 13:57

2 very hilly miles done in wet and windy weather. Thawing out with a cup of tea but feeling good for it.

donttellmetwice · 11/01/2020 15:52

Just back from a 3 mile walk, loved it!

WeirdPookah · 11/01/2020 19:18

1 mile proper walk, but another mile doing Costco and other stuff!

circleorsquare · 11/01/2020 20:21

I've just walked up and down my road and round the garden to get to a mile as I suddenly realised I hadn't done it today! Will get on it properly tomorrow and go for an actual run!

DebbieFiderer · 11/01/2020 22:50

Didn't go for a walk today as I am coming down with a cold/some other random virus and didn't have the energy on top of my normal daily routine. I am working tomorrow (assuming I don't get much worse) so if I feel up to it will try and have a walk at lunchtime.

Newyearnewarse · 12/01/2020 11:13

Morning all , dodgy couple of days for me . Was shattered after work and felt a bit blurgh so missed my miles.
So I have bucked up today and managed 4 miles to make up for it.

I feel so much better for doing something and I know it helps but some days are definitely easier than others.

Well done all for keeping on !
