Run/jog/walk a mile a day in 2020. Join the bandwagon early

I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

Just over a mile for me today too with the kids. Back to routine for me tomorrow so going to have to work my mile in at some point.

Newyearnewarse · 06/01/2020 16:02

Well done @didireallysaythat
Couch to 5k works really well , how did you find it ?

2 miles done , I have to walk past the gym on my way home so I have no excuse really. I know I will find some !!

@Newyearnewarse I found it easier than I deserved to, given how long it's been since I did any exercise.

Only issue was that I used a different voice over, and this one didn't tell me when I was half way through. As I result I ended the running bit at the other end of the village right by the Chinese takeaway and then had to walk back past the chippy and kebab van. Still next time I'll know not to run as far before turning around to come back.....

I was on a training course for work today, lots of sitting so have only managed 5,000 steps, but I did make sure I went for a walk around the building (inside and out) at lunchtime and did my mile.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/01/2020 20:01

1.75 mile jog tonight, I'm on 5.4 miles for the year so far, a bit behind plan but will catch up. However my feet started hurting a bit towards the end (I have had plantar fasciitis in the past) so I need to be careful.

Egghead68 · 06/01/2020 20:19

Fitted in a 2.5km treadmill run before an exercise class. Am loving these mini-runs. Also walked 2.5 miles.

EastofEdna · 06/01/2020 20:38

did a mile fast walk; after going over handlebars on bike yesterday, half my body feels like it has been in a car crash; the other half is OK.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/01/2020 20:48

Well done for getting out again East, hope you make a speedy recovery.

KnightandDay · 06/01/2020 22:12

5.78km today, was a lot further than planned as I dropped my key somewhere along route and had to double back to find it. Did find it though, so all good Smile

ipreferaflan · 07/01/2020 12:39

Back to routine now but managed to nip for a quick 1.5 mile walk just now on my lunch break so hoping I can keep it up on weekdays this way.

Emmapeeler1 · 07/01/2020 12:56

3.1 km and a Zumba class today so far. Yesterday I only just managed my mile.

hopefulhalf · 07/01/2020 13:44

Did 10 mile run on sunday, walked 1.5 yesterday and 5.1km so far today

InOtterNews · 07/01/2020 14:01

Belatedly joining this thread. I started yesterday as we moved to new offices just before Christmas. I now walk from my station in London to the office which is 1.4 miles (+0.6 to get to my home station before catching the train).

This week I'm only doing in the morning as I'm feeling the burn. Next week I plan to do it both ways - so in theory that's around 4 miles a day

WeirdPookah · 07/01/2020 15:55

Back to school today and had to food shop and go get car parts, so squeezed a mile in just before school pick up instead of waiting in the car!
Benefit of living in a town on a grid system meant I could walk a loop. Rubbish paths though were annoying with the cheapy car buggy. Not sure how often it could stand it... Nor the toddler in it!

DebbieFiderer · 07/01/2020 18:46

Second day of my training course, had a shorter lunch break today but still managed the mile, much quicker than I have done so far (15mins rather than 20!)

circleorsquare · 07/01/2020 20:00

First day I've not done anything. Nightmare traffic so took me longer to get home from work so didn't have time to go out before my tea!!! Toying with the idea of heading out now...

Egghead68 · 07/01/2020 20:17

Walked 2.2 miles according to my phone although not sure when. No running as had knackering exercise class and super busy at work.

KnightandDay · 07/01/2020 23:16

Only managed to do 2km today, had to squeeze it in on a short lunch break!

forevercurious · 08/01/2020 09:12

Well done everyone on keeping it up so far, I have to admit I haven’t done so well the past few days. I managed a mile walk on Saturday and 2 miles on Monday but failed for Sunday and yesterday. Also not looking hopeful for today either!

WeirdPookah · 08/01/2020 11:17

2 miles walked today.

WeirdPookah · 08/01/2020 15:35

I decided instead of sitting in the car waiting for school pick up to walk again instead (as my toddler hates sitting in the car). I need to map a different route so I don't feel anxious about being back in time. The paths are a pain on the one I did yesterday.

Could see this as a habit to placate baby and do some good for me!

Egghead68 · 08/01/2020 15:41

Walked a couple of hilly miles.

ipreferaflan · 08/01/2020 15:53

Dragged myself out for a couch to 5k run first thing which was 1.2 miles in total.

Well done everyone, really motivating to know that we're all cheering each other on and not alone.

DebbieFiderer · 08/01/2020 20:37

Another day ticked off here, not as quick as yesterday though, although I felt I was walking as fast as I could. Not sure how I managed it so quickly yesterday!

Newyearnewarse · 08/01/2020 20:44

1.5 miles done today . I didnt manage yesterday but I knew I would struggle more when I got back to work.
I am determined to keep this going and I have worked out that since starting this i have racked up 27 miles extra than i would have otherwise.
Very happy with that.
@circleorsquare dis you get out yesterday in the end? If not dont beat yourself up .
Everyone is doing so well i am loving having this to keep me motivated.
