I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

I'm in, but I'll have to start by walking. Sounds like a great challenge.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 29/12/2019 08:54

I enjoyed it, I was mostly going first thing in the morning, it was nice seeing the sun coming up and saying good morning to the dogwalkers. Made me feel awake and ready to get on with the day. I really need to dig out my trainers.....

3luckystars · 29/12/2019 08:56

I would like to do this too and so does my dog. Thank you.

It is something that I would like to get back to. Years ago when I lost loads of weight (as in halved my weight!) I walked daily without fail.
Marriage, home and 2 children later with one being only 18 months and a good 100lbs over my goal weight again...
Yeah need to do something!

wineandsunshine · 29/12/2019 09:04

I'm in!
I had a recent back injury so when I'm going to jog slowly from around week 6 on C25K...see how that goes. I'm aiming to start next Sunday after a week of no painkillers!!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 29/12/2019 10:43

I’m going to attempt a light jog today. I just weighed myself and I am technically obese 😩

MrsTaytodarling · 29/12/2019 10:47

Yes please!!

ExpletiveFairylighted · 29/12/2019 11:08

I did it! Exactly a mile. Will report back later, need to shower, dress and eat now.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 29/12/2019 11:21

Fantastic Expletive!!

Oldbutstillgotit · 29/12/2019 12:02

Managed 1.5mile brisk walk . Feel good.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 29/12/2019 12:08

Managed a mile with a two year old and a four year old whinging all the way. Ended up carrying scooters and mostly jogging on the spot because of toddler wanting to hold my hand. Was ok - not too bad at all. My husband is a barefoot running coach so I get lots of insight into technique. NOT bringing children again.

LittleAndOften · 29/12/2019 12:13

I'd like to join. I'm 7 weeks post partum and want to start getting gently active. I was thinking of going for a walk with baby after we drop off his older brother at nursery when term starts, although there's nothing to stop us starting early. No time like the present!

EastofEdna · 29/12/2019 13:07

just done a mile - 3 times round the block.

out of breath, sweaty but happy it's done.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 29/12/2019 13:16

When I started in Sept my goal was to jog my entire route and not walk any of it (I tried C25k previously and didn't get on with walk/run intervals at all). This meant jogging very slowly, also as low impact as possible to protect old injuries. It also means I don't get too hot and sweaty. I started with a 1km circuit, upped it to the one I did today (exact mile) and had upped it again to a slightly longer one. When I say slow, it really is slow, my mile today took 18 mins, so its walking speed, but it really helps me psychologically to be able to jog the whole distance without pausing or walking.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 29/12/2019 13:17

Well done East and GorgeousSmile

SallyLovesCheese · 29/12/2019 18:25

Good start, East, Gorgeous and Expletive!

I took DH out for a walk, did about 1 2/3 miles so I'm happy with that!

Changeisneeded · 29/12/2019 22:53

I so need to try and get fit so I’d like to join and see how long I can go for!

Queenparsnip · 29/12/2019 23:23

2 mile walk today after being ill for a few days. Felt good.

girlofthenorth · 29/12/2019 23:32

I would like to join . Got so rundown this winter and have ended up with two horrible chest infections this year both requiring steroids. I really need to sort my fitness level out. I'm slightly impeded by hip problem but physio told me I can walk up to an hour a day so walking a mile should be fine.
Has anyone got any experience of running with previous hip or gluteal tendinitis?

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 29/12/2019 23:35

Can I join you please?
It will be walking for me, due to a nice collection of old injuries and historic mangled bones!
Me and dd(6) have decided a nice walk around the village in the evenings will be a good way to relax for bed. And put steps on the counter in the phone. And hatch pokemon eggs
Any motivation is good Crown Smile

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 29/12/2019 23:37

Oh, we started today!
Walked for about an hour. Stopped 11,000,000 times to say hello to every passing dog

MajesticWhine · 29/12/2019 23:45

Can I join you? I aim to run a few times a week. I can walk the others - not too difficult to build it into my day except one day of the week when I do a long shift. I will try and do a mile walk early before work on that day.

scubadive · 30/12/2019 00:04

Me too please.

Flurgle · 30/12/2019 00:13

I’m in. Walking because of dodgy knees but it’s not too heavy a commitment - I can treadmill or gym it if the weather is bad.

Emmapeeler1 · 30/12/2019 11:54

Thanks to this thread, instead of hanging around the park in the cold yesterday (with my kids, I hasten to add) I walked around it four times which I reckon was about a mile Smile

Off to a NT property today so will hopefully get my mile in today too.
