Run/jog/walk a mile a day in 2020. Join the bandwagon early

I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

2.5 miles today. Was very quiet even at 10am.

Flurgle · 01/01/2020 13:26

Did my mile on the treadmill. 😃

fedup21 · 01/01/2020 13:38

have a route already for the 1 mil

How can I do this? I want to know how far a mile is around the streets here??

There are phone apps that will measure and time it for you Fedup, I use Runkeeper, Strava is also popular.

1.4 mile jog for me this morning, at a family gathering now so the rest of the day is likely to be sedentary. It was so quiet, very little traffic.

Egghead68 · 01/01/2020 15:04

Did 5 km of brisk hill-walking today. Couldn't face jogging it - too cold, too muddy and too many people.

Looneytune253 · 01/01/2020 15:21

This sounds like a great way to get motivated, in fact might go right now! I do a lot of hiit training but REALLY can't run haha. A mile a day seems feasible tho. May be mostly walking in the beginning tho. Do u think I should do it in addition on my hiit days or miss those out?

Newyearnewarse · 01/01/2020 15:53

I did not want to get out there but I did.
1.5 mile walk done.

@newyearnewarse I was the same, didn't have the get up go this morning but went for a 1.3 mile walk/jog and felt lots better for it.

Really motivated to keep it up now 👍🏼

I’m thinking about doing this.... I am starting a new job which is a mile away from home and school so I could incorporate a 2 mile walk into my day easily. I need to lose a good amount of weight so here’s to hoping....

Emmapeeler1 · 01/01/2020 17:20

2 mile walk around some gardens with the kids this afternoon. Really felt like sitting on sofa and watching a film so result!

EastofEdna · 01/01/2020 17:38

3 jogs 'round the block', plus a fourth for recovery - 1.7 miles down. It was quite lovely, cool no wind, great soundtrack. Back to work tomorrow, will fit a run in to my lunchtime.

Very happy to have done something on 5 consecutive days.

KnightandDay · 01/01/2020 18:13

Can I join please?? I'm going to try get out every day, am doing it in km so not sure what it converts to. Today I did 4.64km walking, took 50 mins - would like to improve my time. Won't always get to go this far, but I reckon if I get out every day that'll be an achievement!

MirandaWest · 01/01/2020 18:15

Can I join please? I ran a mile every day in November and found it was good (although hard getting up and doing it!)

Went for a long walk along the beach today so have done my exercise for the day Smile

KnightandDay · 01/01/2020 18:16

By the way; love the name OP 😁

DebbieFiderer · 01/01/2020 19:47

May have slightly overdone it today - joined some friends for a walk at a local park and did just over 7km, so about 4.5 miles, and am feeling very stiff and sore. Hadn't realised just how unfit I am!

donttellmetwice · 01/01/2020 21:10

I'd really like to try this too. My issue is accountability, I just think 'if no ones know I didn't then it doesn't matter.' Obviously I'll know but I let myself off the hook straight away! I could absolutely do this but I never seem to stick to anything for long.

mygrandchildrenrock · 01/01/2020 23:32

Did a mile on the beach today, a good start to the new year.

Newyearnewarse · 02/01/2020 11:00

Morning all , great to see everyone doing so well.
I went to the gym this morning thinking I would do some time on the treadmill.
It was rammed !!
So a mile on the cross trainer instead. Before this I would have just turned around and gone home .
Weather isn't great here today and I was hoping to get out for a walk later but we will see.

2 miles today, pushing loaded buggy as well!

circleorsquare · 02/01/2020 13:44

I've managed the last 2 days, 1 mile yesterday and just over today. I have done c25k in the past but last year just couldn't really get into running. I'm hoping that by doing a little each day it will be manageable and help me start exercising more frequently after January!

MirandaWest · 02/01/2020 13:47

I ran 2km in my lunch hour. Feel pleased with myself Smile

ipreferaflan · 02/01/2020 16:11

2 mile walk around the woods today 👍🏼

forevercurious · 02/01/2020 16:23

I’d like to join please, I’m 4 weeks post partum and would like to increase my fitness levels. I’ve gone from a busy active job to sitting around eating for 4 weeks! I’m aiming to walk with the pram everyday - on the 31st I walked 4-5 miles, yesterday around 2.5 miles and just under 2 miles today. Pleased with my good start :)

birdsarecute45 · 02/01/2020 16:49

me too please! I was about to de-reg from MN so this will persuade me not to. :)

RebornFlame · 02/01/2020 16:51

I’m in! I’ve done 5 miles today 😇 but I’m on a walking holiday so this won’t be usual. I need to move more and eat less!!
