I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

Hi all

I wasnt going to start until the first but then I thought bugger it and just for on with it.
28th I walked/jogged 3 miles
29th I walked 5 miles with the family
30th I walked / jogged 1.5 miles

I am so pleased I started this thread and it is amazing to see so many people joining in.
I know I have done more than I said but I also know there will be days when I cant face it so this is miles in the bank Grin

This is such a great idea, I'm in!

Going to do couch to 5k 3 days a week and walk on the other days. Will be a great way to get a bit more active and get outdoors. Good for both body and mind!

Emmapeeler1 · 30/12/2019 17:16

I went to NT property in a foul mood (because DH’s family are so annoying!) and after a couple of hours’ walk (stopping at every other pond/plant) felt much more sane.

another mile down - left it a bit late today to be v. enthusiastic about doing it, but all done Grin

ExpletiveFairylighted · 30/12/2019 19:04

Just got back from mine, I didn't get up early enough before work so waited till I got home, it was lovely seeing all the Christmas lights.

MajesticWhine · 30/12/2019 23:29

I jogged 1.5 miles and walked 2 miles today.

hopefulhalf · 31/12/2019 06:31

So managed so far. Today am giving Dd a lift to stables, leaving car there and walking into work (20 mins) rather than driving.

DebbieFiderer · 31/12/2019 07:43

This sounds like a great plan. I've done C25K in the past and enjoyed it, but got an injury so stopped and have since piled on the weight. I don't think it's a good idea to straight back in to running at my current weight/fitness levels so increasing my fitness through walking is probably a good idea. I have a very sedentary job (only manage approx 3-4,000 steps a day) and am morbidly obese, so could do with moving my body a bit more. This sounds like a good New Year's resolution, that is actually acheiveable, which is always helpful! Will start today if I get a chance, otherwise will be on it from tomorrow.

I joined this thread at the beginning and am inspired by how many people have already started! I don't have the motivation yet but will start on Thursday when I'm back to work, will get out for a walk on my lunch break. Is there an app I can download to track distance etc?

ExpletiveFairylighted · 31/12/2019 08:46

I use Runkeeper. I'm a bit torn about it, I like it for determining distances/times, and it would be useful to log total distance for the year, but I also like the freedom of leaving my phone at home sometimes and not faffing about starting and stopping it, I also don't want to get into trying to beat times or being disappointed if I don't.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 31/12/2019 09:38

Walked/jogged a mile yesterday sans children. Also started Fast800 - on my second day today. Not eating lots is so depressing Grin

I’m going to do this.

did race at my own pace in September and October and walked 150 miles in each month. I logged it on my Fitbit and really liked it. Have been rubbish for November and December and need to get back on it.

Btw I’m a proper fattie and didn’t find this a massive stretch but defo felt the benefits from it. It works out to 5 miles a day but over the whole day.

You get a pretty medal at the end of the challenge as well.

Morning all , another 1.5 mile of jog/plod/walk done.
I am feeling really positive about this .
I know it will be more difficult once work starts next week but I am hoping to be in a habit by then.

Great to see everyone else has made such a great start as well.

Just got back from mine. I don't have time at the moment to walk miles every day (work plus mums taxi most evenings) but reckon I can fit in half an hour in the mornings by getting up a bit earlier. My DCs are teens so I can go out while they are getting ready for school, I leave for work after they go. My fitness has taken a dive since they went to secondary school as I used to walk them each way at primary plus walking to Cubs, swimming etc. Now they get themselves to school and I spend my evenings and weekends driving them all over the county for their sports. I could walk while they participate but I prefer standing on the sidelines nattering with the other parents.

Emmapeeler1 · 31/12/2019 11:34

I think that’s fair enough expletive! I got to a point late last year where I was also doing nothing at all, as evidenced by the woeful number of steps on my iPhone. A target of a mile a day at least will be so much better than that and hopefully it will inspire me to do more on the days I do have time.

Yesterday evening I walked to to the pub!

ItsAlmostGone · 31/12/2019 11:41

@ExpletiveFairylighted that’s my problem too. Used to do my 10000 steps every day on the school run but now both dc are at secondary school I’m doing nothing! I work from home so need to try to get my mile in between conference calls.

SallyLovesCheese · 31/12/2019 11:48

That's motivation, Emma! Grin

I probably average about 2 miles a day at the moment, but that's all my steps rather than going for an actual walk. I'm thinking of going for a walk in my lunch breaks and then on a Thursday walking or cycling to my new exercise class which is just less than a mile each way. Plus the old C25K which I'm determined to complete! I have about 2 stone to lose, so improving my fitness plus possibly losing weight is my aim!

WeirdPookah · 31/12/2019 13:28

Well we walked nearly 3 miles today, with my 18month old managing to walk nearly 2 miles! Sturdy little legs.

EastofEdna · 31/12/2019 19:11

did a mile walk today - proper start tomorrow. Back in work on Thursday; will have to work out how to fit the mile in; either at lunch-time or count the long walk to Anfield for the football Thursday night.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 31/12/2019 19:15

Football walk sounds reasonable, I always seem to have to park about a mile from my club's ground (and we are a much smaller club).

Egghead68 · 31/12/2019 19:21

Jogged 3.75km and walked another mile and a half. Am going to try to jog several times a week and walk the rest of the days.

Emmapeeler1 · 31/12/2019 20:27

Wasn’t sure if I had done a mile today (walking to ice skating rink from the car and back... but I didn’t skate!) so I walked down to the Tesco Express and back before tea. Wouldn’t have bothered without this thread!
