Have you ever asked your now adult children...

...what their favourite Christmas present was, that they received as a child?
I asked mine this evening after reading a couple of threads from people who are struggling with Christmas.
Dd1 27 said her most favourite presents was mousetrap.
Dd2 22 said her favourite gift was a nail dryer shaped like a dog.
Neither of these were expensive and they actually can't remember most of their "main gifts".
So I was just wondering what was your child's favourite gift?

This thread is bringing back so many memories I’d completely forgotten about. I always think of us as being pretty poor when I was a kid but there a lots of things on here I too received and didn’t remember until now - makes me realise we weren’t that bad off really. Thanks OP, great thread.

@ChorleyFMcominginyourears I was desperate for that dolls' house! I had all the furniture sets but my parents couldn't afford the house. I had a massive build-your-own cardboard house instead, which was actually quite cool :)

RangasNugget · 27/11/2019 20:48

A cardboard box full of books my Mum had collected through out the year, even now 30 years later still my best present ever, and I still have some of the books, lost a lot of them in a flood.

A proper adult typewriter, when I was about 9. I loved it.

FavouriteSoul · 27/11/2019 21:00

My 25yo DD says her Gamecube, followed closely by Joanna, the walking talking doll that was the same size as her (and freaked me out massively) when she was 4.

minxlynx · 27/11/2019 21:09

Not sure if it was Christmas or my birthday, but I think one of my favourite presents was a toy wardrobe that my dad made for my barbie's clothes.

Pawsandnoses · 27/11/2019 21:11
  1. An andrex puppy that was obtained by saving loo roll tokens (still have him 40 something years later)
  2. A cabbage patch kid (her name was Maritsa Lilac)
  3. Cheer Bear ( 1980's care bear)
Mummadeeze · 27/11/2019 21:12

God, I feel absolutely terrible reading this. I genuinely can not remember one present I was given as a child and I know I was given loads. V weird that my memory is so bad.

Shockers · 27/11/2019 21:18

Youngest son (19) says it was the wii or the trampoline. Both were joint presents with his sister- both are still in use. The wii was bought when he was 8, and the trampoline when he was 9.
Other than that, he says clothes, because I always choose good ones .

DD says the year she got a rat cage (also a joint present) . We had to fill it ourselves- FC doesn’t bring livestock.

I think my eldest would say goalkeeper gloves when he was 7. He kept them on all Christmas Day.

FavouriteSoul · 27/11/2019 21:19

My mum made my Sindy a complete outfit out of a green sock. That was pretty fantastic, when buying an outfit for her was completely out of the question. Do children still play with dress up dolls?

Localocal · 27/11/2019 21:26

I don't remember the things my parents bought me (though Christmas was always magical and we got lots of lovely gifts.) What I do remember is everything my mother made for me - the playhouse she constructed for me in the basement (so I could play down there with her while she did the laundry and ironing and sewing) which she carpeted with carpet squares she got from a sample book a carpet store was throwing away. The doll dresses with the matching dresses for me. The lacy tooth fairy pillow with the little pocket for the tooth. The first communion dress everyone envied. The dollhouse she built me herself and wired for lighting.

And I remember all the things we made together. Clothespin doll Christmas ornaments. Batik and tie dye t shirts. Suncatchers. Giant fluffy throw cushions. God, my mom is awesome. I should tell her this instead of all of you.

Deminism · 27/11/2019 21:56

a very posh huge estee Lauder make up set from my grandpa when I was about 12. It was so glamorous and grown up

Jue37 · 27/11/2019 21:58

Mine was glittery talc, Iv never forgot how sparkly it was 😍 xx

ArthurMorgan · 27/11/2019 22:23

I can't think what my favourite present was, but I know what I never got, my god damn Mr frosty!

EustaciaPieface · 27/11/2019 22:24

Another fan of the Treehouse here, I just loved mine. Also got a Lundby Dollshouse one year - it had lights that worked and the furniture was amazing. I would probably play with it now if I still had it!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/11/2019 22:38

@itssquidstella we did that one year. It was such good fun to choose what to put in it. Thanks for jogging my memory.
Had also forgotten my pound Puppies, and my parents recently gave me back my big yellow teapot. I was astounded that they'd kept it'

Tigger001 · 27/11/2019 22:55

Mine was a teddy rukspin, my DH bought me a replacement one when my original one met its demise

tobee · 27/11/2019 22:55

For me it was a midnight blue faced sekonda watch with a matching blue suede-style strap! I thought it was so grown up.

Closely followed by a torch on a watch strap and a red toy vending machine where you put in 2p and a mini dairy milk came out! Grin

GGsMumma · 27/11/2019 23:16

An Alf toy that said phrases like “Open the fridge” from my nanna best present ever!

Lc2006 · 27/11/2019 23:23

The dairy milk minitures despenser was my absolute favourite. Closely followed by Sega mega drive with the sonic game that I played with for hours. Also remember my bike, barbie house, polly pockets and tamigotchi.

Always wanted dream phone and a Mr frosty though, I think my parents must have decided they were a waste of money.

WannabeCleaner15 · 27/11/2019 23:28

@nameymcnamechangeagain
I had that one too!

shinynewapple · 27/11/2019 23:41

I had a doll who was either Sindy or Barbie's little sister, a Pippa doll? One year my mum made her a whole wardrobe of little clothes which she packed in s little home made suitcase. Wish I still had them.

I also had a dolls house which I think was originally made by a neighbour for his daughter. Loved all the tiny things inside, a lot of which my mum had made.

I also had a toy shop (shelves, little boxes of groceries etc) which my parents had hand made .

These things were all in the 1970s.

No idea what DS would say his favourite presents were.

Brigante9 · 27/11/2019 23:47

A second hand Chopper. It was black, I adored it. The chain kept coming off, so I ended up over the handlebars a fair few times, broke some teeth and bones, ended up in A&E. Loved that bike.

morriseysquif · 27/11/2019 23:52

A toy iron with a suction cup as a plug.

A Looby Loo rag doll.

Auberjean · 28/11/2019 00:00

A copy of Alice in Wonderland and a copy of Alice through the Looking Glass, in a house with no books.
