If the purge happened in real life...

What do you think you would do?

For those not in the know, the purge is a film/tv program where American citizens are able to commit all crime for 12 hours, once a year.

I would like to say I would be out there stealing money to set my family for life but I probably would be hiding at home making sure my family are safe.

You?

I’d be peadophile hunting and giving them a harpoon to the private’s! In reality I’d be in hiding.

Venger · 24/11/2019 11:53

Hiding at home too.

Although I might quickly nip out after tea to slash the tires of the twatbag next to school who keeps parking on the pavement so close to the wall that everyone has to take their kids out into the road to get past.

ChrisPrattsFace · 24/11/2019 11:53

My mil
😊

ChrisPrattsFace · 24/11/2019 11:54

As in. I would take her out....

Realistically she would be trying to take me out too... so....

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 11:56

You got a good point about the MIL.

She would be trying to take me and dh out in order to take my kids....

So maybe I’ll hire a hit man

I’d smack the woman who lives across the road and parks across the end of my drive. Or slash her tyres. Or both.

MunchMunch · 24/11/2019 11:58

Have you seen what happens to people who try to stay safe at home??

I'd make sure I saved hard and would really cut back on every none essential and have a few days out of the country. No way would I want to be anywhere near!

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 11:59

Yeah...

I’d like to say we had a state of the art security system too but the tv program shows these can be deactivated by someone in the know...so not worth the paper they are written on really.

But hypothetically, lets say the whole world participated in the purge so leaving the country is not going to help

Bloody hell that all sounds terrifying!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 24/11/2019 12:02

Oh everyone has the same 12 hours, not your allowed to pick which day you get your 12 hours?

It'd be like a more dangerous Black Friday sale wouldn't it!

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 12:03

Yes everyone has the same 12 hours

From 7pm-7am on a specific day.

A siren goes off before it starts and again when it’s finished

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/11/2019 12:03

I'd be off wild camping with my children and dogs in a remote area away from everything and everyone.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/11/2019 12:04

The Purge was a brilliant idea for a film, sadly not well executed. Love the similar Rick and Morty episode though.

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 12:05

Oh forgot to say why the purge was installed

They claimed it helped rid humans of violence. If they were able to be violent once a year, then the rest of the year, people are safer and happier.

So it has its use in their eyes

I'd be hiding at mils house. She's got quite a secluded but easily defensible house that's not big or flashy enough for anyone to bother with. Or possibly we'd have gone out into the wilds (Scottish lowlands have quite a lot of space to get lost in, unless a lot of other people have the same idea) and be wild camping until it was over. I'm not naturally criminally minded, and would be terrified of ex pupils coming to find me, not because I'm horrible but because in fairly strict and criminally minded people don't like that. In fact, some of my current pupils might be trying to find me to do some damage.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/11/2019 12:06

Wendy suspect you'd just find yourself in a Friday 13th style spin-off. Wink

meow1989 · 24/11/2019 12:07

I'd be out of the country with my family although I bet airlines would up the prices massively... I would for sure be hiding.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 24/11/2019 12:08

Jesus I'm ex army. I'd take no prisoners Grin

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 24/11/2019 12:09

I wonder if there'd be a distinction between the sorts of crime committed by men and the crimes committed by women... Would lots of males really try and get away with rapes, would there be a difference between young and old, race/class differences?
Interesting thought experiment.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/11/2019 12:09

Dragon good point, never mind who we'd go after - who would be making plans for us? I can think of a few former clients from my work who'd love to know where I live. Possibly a few people on here too.

ChrisPrattsFace · 24/11/2019 12:10

But I’d you try and leave the country, and there’s a flight delay and you then get stuck in the airport?
There would totally be people who would murder spree for the sake of it.

pissedoff19 · 24/11/2019 12:11

I'd hunt the scumbag down that sexually assaulted a close family member and chop his dick of and choke him with it.

Then I'd go home and hide in a panic room I'd had built because I can imagine a few people would be coming after me Grin

Velveteenfruitbowl · 24/11/2019 12:12

I’d organise a fort. With my nearest a dearest and a shot load of guns. Guns on all entrances/exits to shoot anyone trying to get in. And guns on the inside (in my hands specifically) just incase.

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 24/11/2019 12:13

I waste a ridiculous amount of time pondering hiding places for the purge

isittooearlyforgin · 24/11/2019 12:13

I think the really interesting thing about the purge isn’t the 12hours of sanctified crime but how it would alter people’s behaviour the rest of the year.
