If the purge happened in real life...

What do you think you would do?

For those not in the know, the purge is a film/tv program where American citizens are able to commit all crime for 12 hours, once a year.

I would like to say I would be out there stealing money to set my family for life but I probably would be hiding at home making sure my family are safe.

You?

@AutumnRose1

The stuff I said in that post is in the synopsis and all the descriptions of the TV show, so not any actually spoilers!

Just before anyone shouts at me for spoilers!

Biancadelrioisback · 24/11/2019 15:42

I'd take one hell of a long drive. Stop to refuel (without paying mwahahahaha) and then get back home for 7am. Or go hide in the vaults at work.

mumwon · 24/11/2019 15:50

I would get Cameron for putting us through this ridiculous situation than send strap the following onto a rocket (Trump & Pence, Boris & etc etc etc) prior to that make sure family is safe on an island somewhere

mumwon · 24/11/2019 15:53

get computer genius to go into tax system so I don't have to fill in blessed tax forms (thank you pp I hadn't thought of that!) @Lulualla

Jaxhog · 24/11/2019 15:55

They claimed it helped rid humans of violence. If they were able to be violent once a year, then the rest of the year, people are safer and happier.

Or at least the humans left alive after the last time.

sonjadog · 24/11/2019 16:39

I would spend most of the day in the queue to take out Boris and JRM.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 24/11/2019 16:53

You can't. No Government officials level 10 or over.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 24/11/2019 17:01

Its actually worrying me how well versed contraception is on the rules Grin

Contraceptionismyfriend · 24/11/2019 17:13

I'm in way to deep 😂

Also know I can't have anything over a class 4 weapon.

The series is brilliant though. Highly recommend it.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 24/11/2019 17:21

Yeah im enjoying the series

Nearly finished isnt it?

But how can you ever trust anyone? Ever!!

BigFatLiar · 24/11/2019 17:27

I'd hide

and leave the lid of the jam and the messy knife on the table Grin

MrsNoMopp · 24/11/2019 17:42

I wouldn't have the skills in reality, but would hack the world's computers to expose corruption.

nottoday3000 · 24/11/2019 18:28

I'd kill my shit stain of a neighbour (I'd be doing society a favour) but knowing my luck it would be 5 mins after purge ended !!!!!

HavelockVetinari · 24/11/2019 18:30

I'd be abroad till it was over, and would hire security for the house. Then I'd emigrate, with all my family, to somewhere that didn't purge!

HavelockVetinari · 24/11/2019 18:31

I would spend most of the day in the queue to take out Boris and JRM

GrinGrinGrin

That would be a LONG queue!

TiceCream · 24/11/2019 18:41

I’d garrotte the twat of a planning inspector who overruled the council, ignored hundreds of objections from local people and gave permission for a housing estate to be built outside my front window.

Hushabyelullaby · 24/11/2019 19:06

I asked my DH and he said 'drive at 32 in a 30' 🤣

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 19:07

Big rule breaker your dh Hush Grin

FadingStar · 24/11/2019 19:27

Take out my rosary beads and start praying!!

Fuckenstein · 24/11/2019 20:32

Do we really think most people would want to be violent and its only the law stopping them?

I would stay home with my doors locked and curtains closed, fairly sure I'm not offensive enough for anyone to want to kill me Shock

Contraceptionismyfriend · 24/11/2019 20:37

Yes I honestly do.

Look at the Stanford prison experiment.

AdoptedBumpkin · 24/11/2019 20:42

I think I'd be in hiding.

Soubriquet · 24/11/2019 20:46

As it stands, I think most people don’t want to be violent.

We are growing up knowing what is right and wrong

But say the purge existed and children grew up knowing that once a year they were free to kill.

Murder to them will be nothing

Lulualla · 24/11/2019 20:47

The Stanford prison experiment is a bit different though, in terms of the psychology of it.

For that scenario to play out the way it did, was because they told one group "you're prisoners" And they told the other group "you're in charge". They had very defined roles; being told that they were more important than the other group, they were superior, they matter more, they can do what they like to 'those people' because they're just prisoners.
It got out if hand really quickly, and the behaviour was shocking. But one group totally submitted and the other group enjoyed controlling them. Without those cry defined groups of, essentially, human and subhuman, would those people have been as quick to act in the same way?

Quite possibly yes. Simply being told "you're allowed" might be enough for normal, sane people to go all out. But I think they need to be pointed at a group of people and told "they aren't like you. They're below you. You can go ahead and do what you like". I think you need that protection, to be able to tell yourself that those people are less than you are so deserve it.

AppleKatie · 24/11/2019 20:49

I’d hide in plain site. Get caught up nearish the back of a large shopping centre riot.

Much better than hanging about at home/in the woods for a murdering psychopath.
