A continuation of the discussion regarding the MOD news and ethics surrounding Instagram “influencers”.

FOD happy go lucky stories as way of distraction are really grinding my gears!

They must now both be over which advertisers are going to want to be associated with this mess?

Never mind MOD and FOD.

This has put cat among the pigeons because quite apart from exposing MOD and FOD it showed the underbelly of the instamum world.

Most instamums from MOD's circle are busy justifying their existence at the moment and promoting "small business" (which while nice is not the money spinner that the partnerships are) or some are still throwing MOD under a bus under a guise of false outrage.

I smell a big fallout out of this: brands will be much more cautious overall working with influencers because they suddenly became aware that some influencers have done shady stuff that may blow up in this way.

Make no mistake. MOD/FOD are the fall guy here but all those feasting on the carcass may find themselves less in demand than they thought they would be after this. PR teams are on Tattle and there is A LOT of stuff on it that may not be in public domain yet but one slip and it will be.

The small brands may be more willing to take that risk but the big ones (where the real money is) May think twice before putting an influencer in a campaign again.

The speed at which some brands have distanced themselves surprises me. Rachel Jackson has removed most mention of Mod on her website and instagram page already and that seemed to be a very close collaboration, or they gave the impression it was anyway.

I just think it is a massive risk using an influencer anyway, especially without doing very detailed research on them. If I was a PR I would be all over the forums!

I actually don't know how influencers have got away with some of the shady things they have been doing for so long. If writing fake reviews of yourself on Trip Advisor is considered fraud, how on earth can deleting negative feedback on your feed be anything other than the same? For too long influencers have been able to get away with removing negative feedback. If people want to run a business on instagram they shouldn't be able to filter out the stuff they don't want to hear (unless it is abusive of course).

Also it shows how fucking stupid it is for brands to gift things "without any obligation to post it" because I doubt whether we will see much of that bathroom reno again!

No mention of any of this on the RCM press releases so doubtful it will go that far.

I doubt very much she will lose her job and not should she.

I tend to agree with you there @Atalune it's turned very nasty and there's been some serious back stabbing and jumping on the wagon!

Just got banned from Tattle after attempting to explain white privilege and why it mattered! Totally polite and measured posts and I’m gone. I only just realised. So much for a site where you disagree and speak freely.

I’ve never been banned from anything before. I feel the slight thrill of a renegade.

TooSpotty Tattle is well known for banning people who 'derail' ie not spouting nonsense. They don't encourage free speech AT ALL.

Alternative points of view on tattle aren't encouraged. Because they don't make it obvious someone got banned it perpetuates the views that they do allow.

I didn't realise they keep your details for 5 yrs after banning either? Is that norm for websites to do that?

I just had a look at other bits of the site before I leave it alone and there’s a whole thread about MM in which ‘the race card’ is mentioned in almost every post. Depressing. Anyway, that’s me and Tattle at an end.

I’m fairly sure I’d lose my job in the NHS. People have been dismissed for less in my trust. I wouldn’t want to be under her care.

I made the mistake of commenting on the insta post and one particular fan girl is just terrifying in her devotion. I’m now wondering if I should move house.

I don't think she will lose her job but I wouldn't be surprised if she was told she needed to choose between the two roles: influencer or midwife. If she can come back from this I guess influencer is more lucrative and easier money in many respects but then she loses her USP, I think she will find it hard to go back to the daily graft of being a midwife even though I think she is more passionate about that role. Maybe she will just become FODs manager and let him have the limelight he so obviously craves.

I can’t see FOD’s stories at all - do you have to be a follower to see them?
