What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

Yeah I discovered sky crime too, been stuck to the TV since!

hardyloveit · 10/11/2019 07:31

Not sure if this case has been said as I've bookmarked half way through ( keep going down rabbit holes when I get to a case I don't know ) but Timmothy Pitzen was a very strange one!

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 10/11/2019 12:02

Disappearance of Kyron Horman in 2010.

CockleburIck · 10/11/2019 13:46

Oh god, Timmothy Pitzen... what a horrible, baffling case.
I’ve had to rein in my true crime interest recently as it’s becoming quite depressing. It’s shocking what human beings are capable of.

@tobee after listening to West Cork I really thought he'd done it. I thought it was really suspect that she had some of the same injuries he'd inflicted on his partner, and I just thought 'if not him, then who?' But i guess I only have the information that was in the podcast. I do think it's very frightening that someone can be capable of that kind of violence with seemingly little motive and still be walking around freely.

HeronLanyon · 10/11/2019 16:51

West cork was a great podcast. The suspect was so deeply unpleasant I had to keep trying to look at the evidence rather than at him. Thought the reporter did a good job of being fair and honest about his character.

unicornsrule · 10/11/2019 17:30

Trevor deeley was watching a programme about him the other day
He just vanished

unicornsrule · 10/11/2019 17:45

Any other crimes to watch on Netflix

tobee · 10/11/2019 18:37

tobee · 10/11/2019 18:37

Or is

FoldenHoard · 10/11/2019 19:26

I don't believe it's been mentioned on here, I was reading about the "Fort Worth missing trio" the other day, been missing for almost 45 years.

I’ve just listened to the podcast on Peter Bergmann, made quite interesting listening

BanditoShipman · 10/11/2019 23:40

Redhanded is a very good true crime podcast. 2 female presenters, have a laugh but only at the killer’s expense, respectful to victims.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/11/2019 15:33

Other than the novel I suggested earlier, there is also the novelised story of a true ( and heartbreaking) crime. “Harriet” by Elizabeth Jenkins (Persephone books). It is absolutely harrowing but gripping.

Oldbutstillgotit · 11/11/2019 16:44

Daniel and Liam Poole, father and son who went on holiday to Spain in March and have not been heard of since . I have seen very little publicity about this strange case .
Andrew Gosden is - I think- very odd and I feel so sad for his family .
Someone has been charged with Renee McRae’s murder . I think the police always knew but have only just been able to pin him down.
And of course MM. I know someone who was in the same complex at that time and her views are interesting .

notacooldad · 11/11/2019 17:35

And of course MM. I know someone who was in the same complex at that time and her views are interesting What is there take on the situation Old

notacooldad · 11/11/2019 17:38

It may have been mentioned further down in the posts but I am listening to a Podcast about Mary Boyle who is Ireland's longest unsolved missing child case. I only came across it about an hour ago listening to the Mens Rea podcast about Robert Black and that he was ruled out from being a suspect.

LoseLooseLucy · 11/11/2019 17:44

Mary Boyle's twin sister has accused her uncle of killing Mary in the past (he was the last one to see her alive).

Cheers for the spoiler!
I've only just started listening. No need to bother now!
🤣

LoseLooseLucy · 11/11/2019 17:55

Oh no, sorry notacooldad, although I'm not actually sure if it's mentioned in the podcast, I've never heard it 😬
I read about it on reddit a couple of years ago.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 11/11/2019 18:08

@foldenhand just read about the Fort Worth trio, so sad

BeyondBreakingPoint · 11/11/2019 19:38

I only watched something recently that said Robert Black was now pretty much conclusively thought to be responsible for Mary Boyle?! Did they rule him out and then in again, or is it just a matter of differing opinions?

Potnoodledoo · 11/11/2019 19:44

Shannon Matthews, how could her mother do that.I really hope shes settled somewhere and is happy.

notacooldad · 11/11/2019 19:46

BeyondBreakingPoint
On the Mens Rea podcast it said that he had been ruled out but it was only weeks away from being charged with the murder of Jeanette Tate but he had a heart attack and died. This episode was released two days ago

LoseLooseLucy · 11/11/2019 20:28

villagemagazine.ie/index.php/2017/11/boiling-over/

That article is about Mary Boyle and her uncle.
