What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

I've just looked at the mugshots of Sandra Bland (just google images, couldn't face YouTube). There's several. One where she could be dead but that would mean some of them were photoshopped?

My feeling is that the one with her eyes raised is the faked one. It's all over Twitter, but just because something is all over Twitter, doesn't mean it's true.

tobee · 04/11/2019 22:23

True indeed.

Barbourella · 04/11/2019 22:38

Claudia Lawrence could well be connected to Christopher Halliwell. He's long been suspected of several murders but it's interesting to note Claudia vanished on a date significant to Halliwell. He was visiting his father in the York area at the time.
Whether anyone will ever get the truth from Halliwell remains to be seen.

Oh my god do I regret all the Googling I’ve done tonight!

As regards the Sandra Bland mugshot, it’s not so much her face that makes it look iffy (though it is in stark contrast to the beautiful, healthy, intelligent looking woman she appears to be in other photos) but her right shoulder (on left of pic) is sticking straight out, not slightly sloping as would be normal... she’s obviously lying on the ground!!

Whatever the truth of the mugshot pic, she was arrested for not indicating, then soon after she’s dead in police custody.
I’m so fucking glad I don’t live in America!

CockleburIck · 05/11/2019 09:54

A slightly less gruesome, sad or disturbing one... The Waynesboro Cat Shaver, who abducted, shaved and then returned local cats! Cats were unharmed but were likely distressed.
No one knows the reason for this strange cat abuse or the identity of the mystery feline shaver!

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 11:26

Hmm, yes I see what you mean Littledidhsheknow that shoulder is wrong, it looks as though that arm was outstretched, and has been cropped out, which would fit with her being on a floor.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 11:27

Shaved cats ! At least alive though chilly and distressed.

Dramaofallama · 05/11/2019 12:01

The Damien nettles case. He went missing in the Isle of Wight in 1996 and hasn't been since.

WelcomeToGilead · 05/11/2019 14:46

That lady who went missing on 911

tobee · 05/11/2019 20:23

??? @WelcomeToGilead

SinisterBumFacedCat · 05/11/2019 22:29

There was a bbc documentary on Damien Nettles, looks like he was mixed up with some unsavoury types. A drug dealer who has since died probably killed him. Horrible for his family to have no closure Sad

CockleburIck · 05/11/2019 23:06

I saw that documentary, Sinister, made me want to punch a wall. Two investigative journalists thought they’d get to the bottom of it, but didn’t uncover much at all.
It did look like the dodgy dead druggie you mentioned may have been responsible, though.

Squigean · 05/11/2019 23:59

In all seriousness though, he does seem like a decent guy. He's not had a happy life. Nice to imagine he's found some happiness now.

Squigean · 06/11/2019 00:00

^ evidently wrong thread!!! Ignore!

BanditoShipman · 06/11/2019 15:45

Haven’t caught up with whole thread yet but has anyone mentioned the mother and uncle (?) who stabbed (?) her children before school one morning in the UK?

I think they got sentenced fairly recently but no one seems to have said WHY it happened

whereareyousleep · 06/11/2019 22:21

@BanditoShipman its Blake and Tristan Barrass I think you're referring to the trial starts on 12th November. Poor boys Sad

BanditoShipman · 06/11/2019 23:11

Ah thank you, just saw they have both said they are guilty but won’t be sentenced till 12th nov. I just haven’t seen anywhere what the motive could have been 😢

Lhastingsmua · 06/11/2019 23:22

@BanditoShipman the papers have just said that the mother is evil as she has an obsession with murder/serial killers. I don’t think those children had perfect/happy lives with her and then were randomly killed, they were probably subject to neglect

SemperIdem · 07/11/2019 00:27

For me it’s who killed Joyce Cox, a 4 year old who was abducted in 1939 whilst walking home from school for lunch with her slightly older brother. She was found later the same day, raped and murdered, on the local train tracks.

The murderer was never found at the time, is in all likelihood dead now.

The family still wonder though, her murder cast a long shadow on them.

Shopgirl1 · 07/11/2019 08:11

That’s awful SemperIdem, I’ll never understand how anyone can inflict such horror, fear and pain on anyone, but especially children.

Triglesoffy · 07/11/2019 09:12

This thread is compulsive reading.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 07/11/2019 13:33

WagathaChristie that's awful especially as I've not heard about Patricia Grainer. Another case of news outlets not liking less glamorous murder victims.

piscis · 07/11/2019 15:58

The Alcasser murders (Spain)

itsgettingweird · 07/11/2019 16:43

I've discovered I have sky crime on nowtv. It made my year!

Hadn't heard of Sandra Bryant. I'll be googling that this evening. Sounds an extremely horrendous and upsetting case.

itsgettingweird · 07/11/2019 16:44

Sorry Bland.
