What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

I meant to add that with these men who keep on killing, there surely must be other victims too, therefore any places associated with them should be examined. Perhaps they normally are, and the garden associated with Tobin is an exception ?

crustycrab · 03/11/2019 15:23

They do look at other possible crimes. Guessing where a person is or a body is sounds a lot easier than it is.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/11/2019 15:23

I didn’t phrase that first post well as I pressed post too soon, distracted by dd, sorry. I was referring to Tobin’s old garden, but mentioned Bellfield as someone who has almost certainly killed other women.

Disappearance of the Beaumont children.

WagathaChristie · 03/11/2019 15:57

The murder of Patricia Grainer in 1997 she was a young woman with learning difficulties which meant she behaved like a young child despite the fact she was in her twenties with a young child.

When I was younger she lived across the road from my grandmother and would come to play in the garden and when she was murdered her body was found ten minutes from my house so it's stuck in my head.

Some children found her body dumped in the local brook under a mattress and she had been horrifically abused and murdered.
A man was arrested and charged but then released as a witness changed their statement.

Her son is obviously grown up now and is constantly fighting for answers and trying to get the police to reopen her case.

He has a website called who killed my mum.

It's a horrible case and I wish he could get justice for his mum.

Ian Bailey has been convicted of Sophie Toscan du Plantier's murder in France in absentia on May 31st 2019 and authorities are hoping to extradite him @SinittasDancers

Wikipedia still lists the murder as being unsolved fwiw.

Jbforensic · 03/11/2019 18:03

Today is the 6 year anniversary of Allan Bryant Jr going missing, so I was glad to see some people mentioning him. I really feel for the family, I've no idea why it's more important to me than any other case, it just hurts a bit.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2019 22:01

Sandra Bland in the States. No way in hell did she kill herself, I want the truth.

LadyGAgain · 03/11/2019 23:12

That's interesting @BuffaloCauliflower . I've read the Wiki page. What's your theory?

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2019 23:26

@LadyGAgain cops killed her. If you look at the mugshot they took she looks already dead and like she’s lying on the floor. She had absolutely no reason to kill herself and the police were excessive from the start of their interaction with her. It’s absolutely a cover up

SallyCinnamon3009 · 04/11/2019 07:49

@buffalocauliflower just read about Sandra Bland hadn't heard of her before. Can't believe she was kept in a cell for 3 days for not indicating a lane change! The THC levels seem suspect as well. I think she was probably given access to drugs in jail.

Going to watch part two of Garrett Phillips later

sprite25 · 04/11/2019 09:50

I was awake last night til around half 4 in the morning reading some of these, some are strange and some are just awful what happened to some of these people

SallyCinnamon3009 · 04/11/2019 10:47

Just read about Allan Bryant. So sad for the family. I also found an article saying someone had trolled the family through social media claiming to have kidnapped and murdered him. How awful were they not suffering enough without someone adding to their pain.

Doggodogington · 04/11/2019 10:50

The Clydach Murders. The murder of a woman, her mum and her daughter. A man was convicted but on very sketchy evidence. It’s suspected that there was a massive cover up by her ex lover (a police woman) and her ex lovers husband and his brother (both policemen).

TravellingSpoon · 04/11/2019 11:50

I agree about Sandra Bland. She looks already dead in her mug shit, her eyes are empty and it looks like she is laying on the floor. The wiki page seems quite negative towards her in a subtle way, but it's extremely telling that the police officer is no longer a police officer.

BlackCatSleeping · 04/11/2019 11:59

I don’t think Sandra Bland does look dead in her photo. She looks defeated and in shock, but that’s to be expected, I think. The police acted terribly and inappropriately but I don’t think there’s any evidence they killed her.

It’s a tragic case and the level of racism in the US police force is such a huge issue.

FreeBedForFlys · 04/11/2019 12:01

I don’t think she looks dead. At all. If you put that photo among a bunch of other mugshots and asked someone to pick out the dead person they wouldn’t pick that one. You see what you are told/want to see.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/11/2019 12:04

Yes the Clydach murders.

misspiggy19 · 04/11/2019 12:21

Susan Cox Powell- watched it on Sky last night. Utterly tragic case.

Sagradafamiliar · 04/11/2019 12:28

Yes the Sandra Bland case is a travesty regardless. If she isn't dead on the mugshot, then she's subdued and on the floor.
An example of institutional racism which is rampant in the states, that she was even in the situation in the first place.

BlackCatSleeping · 04/11/2019 12:48

There’s video footage of Sandra taken at the jail. She is obviously quite upset but she isn’t being violent or in need of restraint. To me it looks like she is just touching the wall with her head.

FreeBedForFlys · 04/11/2019 16:10

@misspiggy19 I watched that too. Awful. I wanted to shake Alina. Totally deluded.

tobee · 04/11/2019 21:13

I've just looked at the mugshots of Sandra Bland (just google images, couldn't face YouTube). There's several. One where she could be dead but that would mean some of them were photoshopped?

tobee · 04/11/2019 21:15

I've just recently finished listening to the podcast Cold about the Powell case. Very disturbing.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/11/2019 21:33

I don’t think she looks dead in the mugshot picture . Dead people can’t hold their faces like that, because the muscles have relaxed. She does look traumatised, and possibly drugged though. Very upsetting picture compared with the pics of her normal self.
