What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

Sorry just realises what username I am using and it wasn't meant in poor taste, I have been using it before this post.

missyoumuch · 28/10/2019 09:03

I just listened to the podcast "Dr. Death" and I still cannot figure out if the surgeon was purposely trying to harm his patients, or if he was just so inept due to substance abuse that he didn't even know what he was doing.

NormaBean · 28/10/2019 09:05

The Somerton Man. Permission has recently been given for him to be exhumed so hopefully they’ll be a step closer to solving it soon.

Ketomeato · 28/10/2019 09:07

Jeremy Bamber???

Where is the puzzle there? Straight forward case!

Hefzi · 28/10/2019 09:11

I thought Elisa Lam was having a psychotic episode?

I think that they are running touch DNA on the Somerton Man- I think it was in the papers last year - to see if the child of the book's original owner was also his. Not that that will tell us who he was, necessarily.

I would like to see Claudia Lawrence found, and the perpetrator bought to justice.

PhasersTaeMalky · 28/10/2019 09:13

JonBenet and the case that dare not be mentioned.

Jeremy Bamber could well be innocent. It

pinkstar01 · 28/10/2019 09:22

@sprite25 Brandon Lawson? That one is really strange but I think drugs may have been involved in his case.

One that I've always wondered about is Sheha Philip who went missing on 9/11 in Manhattan under very strange circumstances. It's not clear if she was killed in the attacks or whether something else happened.

HeronLanyon · 28/10/2019 09:25

Podcast ‘the thing about pam’ - great listen. No spoilers. Left a lot of unanswered questions !

LittleSweet · 28/10/2019 09:30

I saw a documentary about it. He was called Brian Wells. A woman had organised the robbery. The gang got Brian to do it, I think he was a pizza delivery guy. I think he was forced to do it. He certainly didn't think he was going to have his head blown off. The woman behind the whole plan died in prison of breast cancer.

Elementalillusions · 28/10/2019 09:32

As chilling as the cctv footage is I’m fairly certain it has been proven that elisa lam was in the middle of a severe psychological episode, she had suffered with MH issues before and been known to have paranoid delusions about people chasing her.

I know the circumstances were seen as suspicious but several investigations have proven that even in her manic state she would have been completely capable of getting into the water tank by herself.

There is also a lot of misinformation spread about the case due to the location, I think people seem to want it to be more than just a poor young woman who died accidentally due to a mental health problem.

Speekachu · 28/10/2019 09:33

@BillHadersNewWife I've never heard of that case. Just reading about it and can't believe that the police called off the search after just 9 days. She was only 9 years old Shock

The cases I want to see concluded are :

Marion Barter
The Beaumont Children
Madeline McCann
Someton Man

MissMarpletheMurderer · 28/10/2019 09:37

Or if she chose to disappear pinkstar01 there is a case near me where it's recently come to light that a man who was believed to have died in a boat accident in the 50`s had actually on realizing everyone thought he was dead decided to run away and start a new life leaving his wife and kids.

The guy they have for being the East area Rapist, Joesph DeAngelo, cannot be charged with rapes or burglaries because the statute of limitations expired for those offenses, howver he has been charged with 13 counts of murder and 13 counts of kidnapping.
He is a former cop.

cauliflowersqueeze · 28/10/2019 09:42

Dusty
Yes I saw that JonBenet documentary and felt it was quite convincingly the brother.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/10/2019 09:44

Who killed Melanie Hall

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/10/2019 09:45

Sorry, buggered it up 🙄. Who killed Melanie Hall en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Melanie_Hall

Beveren · 28/10/2019 09:45

I don't think there's any realistic doubt in the Bamber case.

AlternativePerspective · 28/10/2019 09:46

I think that at least part of the police’s theory on Asha Degree.‘s disappearance is accurate in that she meant to run away from home. But I also wonder whether she could have been followed by those she was running away from.

I think that the Jill Dando murder is bizarre, because I don’t buy into the talk of how she was about to uncover some huge sex abuse ring or suchlike. I think we’ll never know. What I do think though is that, although Barry George was acquitted, his just being a poor victim was overstated, because while he clearly wasn’t a murderer, he had form for being a predatory stalker.

Wineislifex · 28/10/2019 09:51

I couldn’t get away with that who killed Garret program, I felt like I wasted three hours of my life watching it! The police were so prejudiced that they have no other leads at all as they were so intent on proving it was Nick!

I’d like to see Claudia Lawrence case answered and also Corie McKeague the young RAF guy who went missing the other year, i think there was more to that than initially suggested!

ginghamtablecloths · 28/10/2019 09:52

Madeleine McCann and Claudia Lawrence.

How can people just disappear with no evidence? Very sad for all concerned.

AlexaAmbidextra · 28/10/2019 09:52

Jeremy Bamber??? Where is the puzzle there? Straight forward case!

It really isn’t. There’s still a large amount of evidence that Essex Police have steadfastly refused to release as it casts very definite doubt on their case.

Zaphodsotherhead · 28/10/2019 09:52

I think Brandon Lawson's brother said that he'd turned back to crack just before he disappeared, and it's generally assumed that he had a psychotic episode due to this. We underestimate in Britain, how easy it is for someone to vanish in woods in the US, how dense and far-reaching they can be.

For me, it's Penny Bell. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Penny_Bell
