"Never. If you are in the benighted US then carry on. If you are in the enlightened UK get a grip and keep your powder dry for Christmas."

If you were so "enlightened" you'd know that Hallowe'en has ALWAYS been a thing in parts of the UK such as Scotland. Where do you think the "benighted US" got it from?

Also do you some of you never visit a shop over September and October? All this wided eyed shock about Hallowe'en decorations ffs.

Snowy111 · 11/10/2019 18:11

Never. More consumerist unnecessary plastic tatHmm

MurderOfGoths · 11/10/2019 18:13

I've had a pumpkin candle holder out for going on 3 years now so... never Grin Can't stand people who get all moany about others enjoying Halloween, like it even affects them?

Trendy
You are wasting your time.
Its the same shite every year.😀
Nobody actually acknowledges they got it wrong (again)

Where the hell you would put some of the outside decs inside your house I don't know either! Can't see anyone stabbing tombstones and skeleton parts into their carpets.😂

snottysystem · 11/10/2019 18:28

I'm Irish so it's a thing, seems to be getting more popular in London. We just put a few bits up few days before the 31st

ALongHardWinter · 11/10/2019 18:28

Erm,never. Is this a thing now?

snottysystem · 11/10/2019 18:28

But we do tend to have a party as well for the kids.

Ginfordinner · 11/10/2019 18:42

IMO putting up Halloween decorations now is more of an American thing. TBH having these decorations around for three weeks would drive me bonkers. I don't even put Christmas decorations up until the week before Christmas.

Anyway, I have been up in the loft and pulled out the Halloween decorations to take to DD at university so that she can enjoy Halloween. I will, of course, get some sweets in for the odd trick or treater that does find our house then eat the rest myself

Sittinonthefloor · 11/10/2019 18:46

Never. It’s not a thing IME. And bar the odd pumpkin & all the shit & single use plastic in tescos I have never seen anywhere else either.
Guess I’ve discovered who buys all the orange & black tat!

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2019 18:47

Nope.

missmouse101 · 11/10/2019 18:51

God, how ridiculous. What a waste of money. Pumpkin carved on the day, that's it.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2019 18:51

Particularly as I'm trying to reduce plastic use, just, no.

I was in Home Bargains today buying rhubarb and ginger gin and the amount of plastic tat on offer was, frankly, depressing. My DCs both have costumes from last year (bought 2nd hand) that still fit, plus pumpkin buckets in the loft and some ceramic candle holders they decorated. We don't host a party, we just trick or treat around our estate so I won't be buying anything else.

soggypizza · 11/10/2019 18:54

Some people seem to live very sheltered lives. Grin

Trewser · 11/10/2019 18:57

Guess I’ve discovered who buys all the orange & black tat!

Yes I always wondered! I was in Asda today and jesus, the plastic. I guess some people didn't get the memo.

Willow2017 · 11/10/2019 19:01

Get off your high horse and rtft.
Most of us have had decs for years and years. I mix it up each year I don't throw it all out on 1st November!

What a lot of killjoy on here. I am.glad I live where communities have fun now and again.

SacramentoMN · 11/10/2019 19:02

Think of the plastic crap that we just don't need in our lives! Have fun doing something else that doesn't involve plastic tat.

soggypizza · 11/10/2019 19:03

I'm sure there are ways to decorate your house without plastic.

babethepiggy · 11/10/2019 19:06

I don’t know anyone who decorates their house with any more than a humble pumpkin..

SacramentoMN · 11/10/2019 19:06

The more we buy this plastic tat the more we'll encourage people to sell it!! We're not kill Joys as we're not discouraging people to have fun, just have fun without the plastic!

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 11/10/2019 19:09

Tremendously enjoying the Halloween snobbery on this thread Grin.

I put them up on Halloween while the kids are at school so they come home to a hallway that is virtually impassable due to cobwebs. Great fun.

Medievalist · 11/10/2019 19:10

There's not really much hope for the environment is there? But as long as people have their plastic tat who cares 🤷‍♀️

AgeLikeWine · 11/10/2019 19:12

I’m also in the never camp.

I just cannot bring myself to waste money on yet more piles of non-recyclable plastic tat because the marketing department of Tesco tells me to.

I really wish people would just think for themselves rather than mindlessly buying into whatever commercialised nonsense retailers promote to them.

Willow2017 · 11/10/2019 19:13

As I said I don't buy new every year. Mine were bought long before the whole plastic thing was news. I have plenty without buying more. And when I am done with it I will donate it all to our local primary which has awesome Halloween parties every year and rely on donations. My decs will be used for years to come.
I already have the decs what would be the point in not using them?

ooooohbetty · 11/10/2019 19:13

Never

Parttimewasteoftime · 11/10/2019 19:22

Mine love Halloween 🎃 I hate it and bonfire night experienced losses at this time of year would happy to hibernate.
Willow is right though I have a box of bits recycled for years here brought by well meaning GP. Will pass on to scouts after so properly put bits up first day of half term. Makes them happy it won't last when they older I can stay in bed or the pub 😂
