What time do you eat your evening meal and is it the last thing you eat until the next day?

We eat at 5pm, sometimes a little later, sometimes a little earlier if everyone is "starving" after school. Everyone is in bed by 8 including me unless I have something I want to watch but usually I'm in bed and reading until 10pm ish.

When I was little, mum sometimes made me supper which was usually toast or crumpets, or maybe a hot chocolate and a couple of biscuits in my teens and my dad was one for scoffing a tower of biscuits before bed. He'd have a tower of 6 digestives, fig rolls, or ginger nuts piled on his bedside table. I wonder if biscuit habits are hereditary...

Do you eat anything after your evening meal? If so, what kind of things do you have? I'm terrible for eating chocolate in bed whilst reading so have given it up until Christmas to get me out of the habit. I appreciate that a lot of people drink alcohol in the evening so maybe you drink instead as your evening treat. I rarely drink alcohol. I would but I'd fall asleep even earlier if I did.

I often get hungry around 9pm and my stomach has been gurgling for the past hour because I haven't eaten much today. I'm determined though to try and reset my body clock with regards to eating in the evening so I'm ignoring it. I don't think it's impressed that dinner was Rice Krispies Grin but I didn't fancy anything else.

TL:DR what time do you eat dinner? Do you eat anything after that and if so what?

I would be absolutely starving by bedtime if I ate 6 hours beforehand. Dinner here is at 8.30 or so, often with some snacks in between after my lunch at noon. Occasionally take some oatcakes to bed if I've underdone it at dinner.

CMOTDibbler · 03/10/2019 22:26

I eat 7ish, and thats it until after 11.30 the next day. No alcohol, just tea!

AllFourOfThem · 03/10/2019 22:29

I eat around 8/8.30 and often snack on chocolates afterwards until bedtime. I don’t drink alcohol and often skip breakfast and sometimes lunch. On a fairly unhealthily frequent occurrence, supper is my only meal of the day.

I'm similar to you op.
Meal at half 5 ish. A little super for everyone about 9. Suits us.

SuperPixie247 · 03/10/2019 22:30

I have dinner between 8pm and 9pm. Usually have something sweet then bed around 10.30. Id be starving by 9pm if I had dinner at 5!

crimsonlake · 03/10/2019 22:30

I probably eat between 5.30 and 6pm, nothing else until breakfast.

blanketsallday · 03/10/2019 22:32

I usually eat between 4.30 (if I'm really hungry as I often skip lunch) and 8 or 9pm on weekends. Try not to snack afterwards but sometimes have dessert.

Woodlandwitch · 03/10/2019 22:32

What is a little supper? As in what would you have after having dinner earlier?

Pure curiosity and wondering if i am missing out on meals

Aquamarine1029 · 03/10/2019 22:33

Eat around 7 and very, very rarely eat anything until morning. Never have sweets or dessert. Might have a glass of wine but I always drink loads of water.

Seaandsand83 · 03/10/2019 22:33

We are the same, eat at about 5ish with the children and then my husband and I might have a little something a bit later like fruit slice of toast. I'd be starving if I had to wait til 8.30!

Usually eat around 8/8.30 (DH would love to eat later), don’t eat anything else but often it’s only an hour or so before I go to bed. Would prefer to eat earlier but can’t stand the thought of starting to cook the minute I walk in from work and DH hours are never predictable.

barneymcgroo · 03/10/2019 22:37

Supper at 8:30ish, frequently later in the summer and it's so light late and I forget to start cooking til about 9. Often have a slice of toast when the toddler's having his tea at 5ish which keeps me going, though could manage without. Pure greed. I love toast.

UserPop · 03/10/2019 22:37

Dinner depends on when DP is home from work. So sometimes we eat as a family between 5&6, others we eat when the kids are in bed.

We usually have a treat between dinner and bed in the weekend.

Ohyesiam · 03/10/2019 22:40

I can overeat, and find an after school snack then dinner at 6.30 followed by nothing is less likely to induce neurotic eating.
Going low carb is fantastically helpful too, as there are no blood sugar peaks and troughs to induce hunger.
Because t were meant to eat every 4-6 hours, so try having your meal later.

EmmiJay · 03/10/2019 22:42

DD has her dinner around 4:30/5 and I don't eat after 6pm as I'm trying to stay slim! Plus I read somewhere you should go to bed a little bit hungry because it resets your appetite or something and thats stuck with me since.

Sunshine1235 · 03/10/2019 22:43

We have dinner around 5 too with the kids. But then once they’re asleep we’ll often have a bowl of cereal or a snack.

SinglePringle · 03/10/2019 22:46

Dinner around 7pm. One course.

Don’t eat again till around 9am the next day.

Answerthequestion · 03/10/2019 22:48

About 8.30. Can’t really eat earlier. Generally that’s it until morning

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2019 22:49

As I always eat lunch I am not hungry until about 6.30, so we usually eat between 6.30 and 7.30.

CrimsonCottage · 03/10/2019 22:52

Dinner around 6.30pm (usually without pudding). Try not to have anything after besides a cuppa or two, but sometimes have a biscuit or a couple of squares of chocolate. Afternoons rather than evenings are when I struggle not to snack, no matter what I have for lunch.

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 03/10/2019 22:53

I ear around 6, then often eat fruit and yogurt later, usually together. That said, I'm always keeping an eye on my weight, otherwise I'd have a sandwich or toast.

Jinglejanglefish · 03/10/2019 22:59

Around 7, and very rarely eat anything after that. We recently stayed at PIL and MIL would serve dinner around 5 or half 5, felt weird as i often don't have breakfast til 10, lunch around 2, then it was dinner at 5!

KatherineJaneway · 03/10/2019 22:59

I usually eat between 7 and 7:30pm. I couldn't be in bed by 8pm unless I was very sick.

CherryPavlova · 03/10/2019 23:04

We eat supper about 7pm. Nothing after that unless I’ve had book club, when they’ll be a few canapés type things with olives and crudités.
