What time do you eat your evening meal and is it the last thing you eat until the next day?

We eat at 5pm, sometimes a little later, sometimes a little earlier if everyone is "starving" after school. Everyone is in bed by 8 including me unless I have something I want to watch but usually I'm in bed and reading until 10pm ish.

When I was little, mum sometimes made me supper which was usually toast or crumpets, or maybe a hot chocolate and a couple of biscuits in my teens and my dad was one for scoffing a tower of biscuits before bed. He'd have a tower of 6 digestives, fig rolls, or ginger nuts piled on his bedside table. I wonder if biscuit habits are hereditary...

Do you eat anything after your evening meal? If so, what kind of things do you have? I'm terrible for eating chocolate in bed whilst reading so have given it up until Christmas to get me out of the habit. I appreciate that a lot of people drink alcohol in the evening so maybe you drink instead as your evening treat. I rarely drink alcohol. I would but I'd fall asleep even earlier if I did.

I often get hungry around 9pm and my stomach has been gurgling for the past hour because I haven't eaten much today. I'm determined though to try and reset my body clock with regards to eating in the evening so I'm ignoring it. I don't think it's impressed that dinner was Rice Krispies Grin but I didn't fancy anything else.

TL:DR what time do you eat dinner? Do you eat anything after that and if so what?

Dinner between 6-6:30, and then usually nothing til breakfast. OH quite often has a pre bed time snack

lastqueenofscotland · 03/10/2019 23:26

Around 8-10 for an evening meal depending on when I get back.
Not really a snacker.

ilovebagpuss · 04/10/2019 01:14

6-7 ish maybe earlier at weekend. Sometimes have a crumpet or slice of toast later but more for snacking than actual hunger. Nothing until 7.30 am then.
I’m more interested in your bed at 8! When do you do all of your jobs? I’m still sorting things at home up until around 9 then manage a bit of sofa time.
Also I’m guessing the children are under 6 as my 13 year old isn’t in bed until 9.30?
Oooh I’m proper jealous Grin

We eat about 7, rarely anything before bed.

I know it’s a rare opinion on mumsnet but I eat when I’m hungry. Sometimes I do need more food before bed, but if it is genuine hunger, I know chocolate wouldn’t keep me full so I’d probably have some cheese and oatcakes or something.

LoreleiRock · 04/10/2019 01:40

Usually between 8 & 9. It is usually the last thing I eat.

minesagin37 · 04/10/2019 02:23

We ate evening meal about 6 pm then nothing until breakfast. Don't have an urge to snack.

WallyWallyWally · 04/10/2019 03:40

Dinner at 7pm. Always a proper meal, with protein / veg, low carb. No evening snacks, just a cup of herbal tea then bed by 10:00. Then I don’t eat till lunch time the next day, barring a coffee and tea.

Tea at 5pm then toast / biscuits for supper before bedtime was normal when I was growing up though. My ILs still do this.

Sleepyblueocean · 04/10/2019 07:06

I have tea with ds at 5pm and then a slice of toast about 9pm.

RedSheep73 · 04/10/2019 07:12

We eat between 6 and 7 most nights, and I'm usually hungry again by bedtime so I'll have a slice of bread or something. I don't know how people can go to sleep hungry, I wouldn't sleep at all!

Heyboyo · 04/10/2019 07:13

I eat at 5 when I get in from work and I don’t eat anything else until bed. I go up at 9 though and read for a bit.

stucknoue · 04/10/2019 07:14

I eat 6.30/7 then nothing until 1pm the next day. We've always eaten then because we feel it's important to eat together and that's the earliest feasible, now it's often just me but habits die hard.

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 07:14

Generally we eat about five thirty six, we got into the habit when our daughter was at school. Now it depends, like yesterday I ate mid afternoon and not after.

I tend not to eat after but my husband does, he has crisps or nuts or something whilst watching the tv. I think it's more habit than he is hungry.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/10/2019 07:16

Dinner at around 5pm then a snack around 8pm

Loveoddthings · 04/10/2019 07:23

I’m done eating by 6.30pm
No snacks
Then breakfast / early lunch 11.30am next day.
Works well.

homemadecommunistrussia · 04/10/2019 07:25

I have tea about 5.30-6 pm then nothing until breakfast ( except wine msybe).

I have to eat earlier if I am working late, so sometimes have a piece of toast when I get home at 8ish.

I really wouldn't want to eat much later, some people can't face food in the morning I struggle with it in the evening.
Ideally I would have a large lunch about 12.30 and then some cheese on toast at 4pm.

Dinosforall · 04/10/2019 07:26

Not many grazers (like me) on this thread! Saying that, even if I'm hungry last thing, I often don't feel like eating.

SallyWD · 04/10/2019 07:33

I do 16/8 so eat between 10 and 6.i have a really big brunch between 10 and 11 then my main meal is around 3pm. I eat little after that. Some snacks maybe but I never eat anything after 6pm (unless I'm going out or seeing friends etc). I'm pretty hungry at bedtime but I'm now used it and hate feeling full when I go to bed. The rest of the day I eat very big portions so I'm usually feeling very full.

redchocolatebutton · 04/10/2019 07:37

around 7 and I don't have anything until 12 next lunch time.
dh has a late night snack though.
dc's next meal is breakfast

Hederex · 04/10/2019 07:39

If I eat at 5, I'm ravenous by bedtime. Doesn't work for me. I eat 8ish and don't eat anything else until about 9 the next day.

redchocolatebutton · 04/10/2019 07:41

if I eat anything less than 2 hours before bed I get heartburn.
so I don't.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/10/2019 07:44

The dc have dinner at 4.30 at childcare. They then have supper (fruit and yoghurt, or cereal, or toast) at around 6.30/7.

Dh and I eat at about 7.30/8pm and that's all we eat til breakfast.

boredboredboredboredbored · 04/10/2019 07:45

We eat around 5pm then I have nothing until maybe 12-1pm the next day. I tend to eat in a 6 hour window (just can't stomach food any earlier).

Ds 14 however will have a bowl of cereal around 9pm then breakfast at 7am.

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2019 07:46

We eat around 8.00 .. I'd love to eat earlier but I don't get in until 6.00 . I'm trying to kick the wine habit so have banned myself unless I'm going out .. I go to bed around 10 so don't snack .. if I do I have some dark chocolate , a peanut butter cup or my favourite Bendicks mints

graziemille567 · 04/10/2019 07:46

If we're having a dinner together as a family then we eat around 5/5:30 ish, but then I'll definitely be in the mood for biscuits or chocolate by 9! Depends if there is any in the house or not though. Usually family dinners happen 3/4 nights a week. If it's just me and DH then we eat once DS is in bed, usually by 7:30/8ish. That's then enough for me and I wouldn't normally have or want anything else before bed.

StarlingsInSummer · 04/10/2019 07:47

8ish and we don’t eat anything else.
