About bloody time I say!

It's about time. He should have done it sooner.
I hope he sues for millions and then some.
Hopefully he can bankrupt the whole organisation and wipe them out of existence.

That would be the perfect result. I hope H&M are feeling the support tonight. It seems fairly
Universal even from people who aren't huge fans, All of us can surely see the pain behind this statement.

@Queenbean

You know how Meghan was already a millionaire from her acting work? How exactly are you funding her lifestyle?

I'm not funding the awful woman. I'm an American. As for her being a millionaire, believe me a million dollars is not very much these days and is certainly not funding her lifestyle.

I didn't say I was funding her lifestyle, did I?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 02/10/2019 00:02

The only reasoning that makes sense, is to deflect from Andrew.

I don't like to think so but I agree little else makes sense. The letter was published literally eons ago in terms of trending news. Literally no one gives a flying fig anymore and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone at all who remembers the contents and even less who give a

But the press have been very firmly put on notice and so will not risk (in the immediate sense) printing anymore scandalous royal stories. Uncle A is firmly off the hook.

"Harry's girl is Straight outta Compton" Compton is gentrified and trendy and also happens to be in the LA/Hollywood area.

Queenbean · 02/10/2019 02:39

Do you believe people are not entitled to their opinion about a public figure whose lifestyle they are funding?

Literally your quote @TumblingTumbleWeeds. You sure give the impression that you care a lot about who is paying for her for someone who doesn’t even live in this country. $1m not a lot of money? Oh give over.

How and why is she an “awful women”?

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 02/10/2019 05:42

The timing seems off to me.

I can't dr what wad do damaging about that particular article. Breach of copyright may have occurred but otherwise it seemed to back up Mm's side of the story. There's a disconnect between the legal action and the statement.

Thr is a lot of negative reporting on them at thr moment but if they didn't continuously virtue signal they wouldn't get called out so much. Harry seems like a 'have your cake and eat it' type. This isn't going to do them any favours.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/10/2019 05:59

I totally understand why they are suing and think it is sensible to do so but but but - Harry's letter reads like the type of ranty message someone types in anger after a couple of glasses of wine.

From a PR perspective after the success of their tour then I think just a short statement outlining their decision to take legal action would have been enough.

I am not sure it is sensible for the RF as a whole to make enemies of the press. I bet there are a lot of stories that haven't been printed over the years ahem Andrew.

Anyway, I just think the world is so different now. No other royals had to endure the invasion of the press as much as the current younger ones. So I would suggest getting rid of the RF as it is and then everyone would be happier. William looks miserable a lot of the time and Harry increasingly so - why would they want to give the same life to their children? They are wealthy and could live anywhere.

Veterinari · 02/10/2019 06:24

Yes, sue them for the letter and for the countless articles but it's the drama, the long emotional, deeply personal statements, mentioning Princess Diana, which surely has to be hurtful to William I think. It's the way they go about things, it's not the way things are done. Yes look to change things but not overnight.

@Quirrelsotherface. Does it not occur to you that Harry likely discussed this with his brother? Of course this is an emotional issue for him - the press hounded his mother to death! And yet you’re criticising him for defending his wife and child against the same. What sort of timeframe for change do you deem is acceptable?? What is the ‘right way’ of doing things?

It seems that your objections are thinly-veiled bigotry against people you’ve decided that you don't Like based on their portrayal in the media (unless you know them personally?) it’s exactly this kind of insidious manipulation of the public by the press that Harry and Meghan are taking a stand against.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 02/10/2019 06:34

H & M received a lot of (valid) criticism over their climate hypocrisy recently - specifically about the use of private jets. This died down over the past couple of weeks, and the tour has attracted largely favorable coverage, so they probably felt it was a good time to release this statement, buoyed by the current public goodwill. I think this will prove to be a mistake.

Regarding the letter, Meghan's rather unusual family was always going to attract attention from the tabloid press - just as Kate's Uncle Gary has in the past- if someone marries into the royal family, that level of interest really is inevitable.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 02/10/2019 06:36

From a PR perspective after the success of their tour then I think just a short statement outlining their decision to take legal action would have been enough.

I agree with this

Dongdingdong · 02/10/2019 06:39

unlike the bull in a china shop way Kate first came onto the scene, acting as if she were the Queen because she got William.

Ugh - what a nasty comment. Stop pitting these women against each other, FGS!

Little Archie has quite a bad turn in his high.

Sorry, but there is NOTHING wrong with Archie’s eye! What is wrong with you people? Just leave it for heaven’s sake.

areyoubeingserviced · 02/10/2019 06:41

Just watched Piers Morgan on tv ranting about Meghan and Harry. Just as I suspected, he has accused Meghan of ‘goading’ Harry.
Piers Morgan is a nasty, horrible man who dislikes Meghan because she wisely decided to cut ties with him.
Whether you like or dislike Meghan Markle, I have found Piers Morgan’s behaviour despicable.
This man is the man ( when editor of a national paper) who was involved in the bugging of the phone of a missing girl and also put the lives of British soldiers at risk. He now has the bare faced cheek to pontificate about the alleged wrongdoings of Meghan and Harry.
I really do hope that he gets his comeuppance

GoFiguire · 02/10/2019 06:51

I hope Northcliffe media goes bust and I hope Piers Morgan gets sacked and has to wipe Trump’s arse until Nov 2020 when Trump is out of a job too.

GoFiguire · 02/10/2019 06:53

I hope Piers Morgan gets covered in boils.

lottelupin · 02/10/2019 06:59

Well done, Harry. Bless him. He's a credit to his mum 😥

Usethegoodbudder · 02/10/2019 07:08

Ugh Piers this morning... he's like a dumped ex boyfriend that won't go away.

OP posts:
OutComeTheWolves · 02/10/2019 07:10

Good for him.
I'm not a royalist at all - I'd actually be fine if we got rid of them. Yet I've never defended them in my life as much as I have in the past 12 months. The way she is presented in the media and pitted against other female members of the royal family while the press ignore the fact that her uncle in law is probably a rapist with paedophile friends and her father in law was in some part responsible for elevating Jimmy Saville's standing in society is disgusting.

GoFiguire · 02/10/2019 07:10

I hope Piers Morgan gets diarrhoea all over the studio floor live on air.

lottelupin · 02/10/2019 07:21

I think it highlights how we can't trust anything published, and therefore mustn't judge by it.

The relationship between Prince Harry and the people is take it or leave it for us as individuals - we can feel or not, be involved or invested or not. We have our private lives and our independence. But he doesn't. He's an individual as well, but despite the options he has as a result of his position/wealth, in fact he doesn't have the simple freedom we do, to be himself and live his life in privacy with his wife and child. We are the only ones who can help them and give them what they deserve as a basic right - not to be hounded and bullied. Their every movement is analysed and commented on, and when this becomes negative, it must be devastating fir any individual.

We shouldn't be part of this. We should be kind and decent and intelligent and just give them a break, and the benefit of the doubt. I think he was absolutely right to speak up.

KenAdams · 02/10/2019 07:45

@stairway that's a very creative way to say "go back to where you came from".

Your attitude, sadly, is common and something that people like me face every day. Try living your life waking up every day trying to prove yourself and make others feel that you deserve to be where you are. Now imagine that attitude was played out in a mainstream newspaper reaching millions of people. Do you understand a little what Meghan might be going through?

TelAvivLastNight · 02/10/2019 08:57

It's a difficult one. The press have been absolutely savage so I can understand why he wants to do this but I can't help think it will make matters worse for them. Fighting fire with fire.

At this point their best option would be to take a step back. Continue with their official engagements but in a quiet way. They are living a celebrity lifestyle - and the perks and privileges this brings is based in part on the media attention they receive.

Longlongsummer · 02/10/2019 09:03

I think all those saying Meghan is awful etc. need to watch The Loudest Voice and see how manipulative and biased the press can become with Fox News, it’s not so different now with Piers Morgan and the Fail.

It’s chilling, racist and misogynistic.

jobbinggogger · 02/10/2019 09:13

So far Megan has

  1. Visited her friends for a baby shower
  2. Once asked for privacy
  3. Dared to visit another friend leaving her young baby in the hands of it’s perfectly capable father
  4. Worked
  5. Not worked
  6. Not wanted official photos ten hours post partum
  7. Flown on a private jet - probably not her decision

To me, most of her actions seem normal!!! I can’t link but if you listen to Mariah Carey “Through the rain” they are very appropriate to H&M’s situation.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2019 09:13

“Continue with their official engagements but in a quiet way. They are living a celebrity lifestyle”

What, exactly does this mean? Why is their expensive and privileged lifestyle “celebrity” rather than just “royal”?
