We went to Cornwall for a week in July. We were lucky as the weather was gorgeous and there was plenty for the kids to do. Only complaint was a week didn’t seem like enough Wink. hopefully looking to go abroad next year.

How did everyone else’s holidays go?

Went to Menorca for a week. It was ok but there was no shade on the beach (refused to pay for the sunbeds and shades as extortionate for 4) and couldn't go in the sea as loads of jellyfish. The pool was lovely though and great weather.
Just had a long weekend in Tenby - never been there before but its lovely and would definitely go again. Excellent beach and really clean.

Well, not to put too much of a damper on things, but not everyone has a holiday every year. We just had a one day trip to the coast and again I know that's more than some. Was a fun day but a lot of driving and really missed the lazy day, 'plenty of time' feeling of a real holiday. Not meaning to be churlish Smile. Would love to make it to Wales or Cornwall another year.....your week sounds fab OP!Smile

Whitby. Just DH and I, the kids went with away my mum and dad. It was fabulous, dodgy weather but a glorious part of England. Lovely walking along the beautiful coastline.

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 03/09/2019 19:48

Croatia. It was fabulous. Having managed to make my annual leave last summer, during which we remained in the UK, coincide with the one week that it pissed it down after an otherwise boiling hot summer, i vowed to get some sun. We went to near Pula, swam in the sea every day, explored Roman ruins and war history, went to a national park and ate lots of lovely food. It was fantastic and we a very privileged.

HotChocolateLover · 03/09/2019 19:50

We had a stay-cation this year. It was OK.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 03/09/2019 19:51

Dartmouth. It rained a lot, the apartment was shabby and absolutely not worth the money. Not fond of Dartmouth and wouldn’t go again.

LoonyLunaLoo · 03/09/2019 19:54

We haven’t been yet! We’re going to Turkey at half term and Australia for Christmas. I’m kind of glad we didn’t have a summer holiday as we still have something to look forward to!

stoplickingthetelly · 03/09/2019 19:54

Turkey at the start which was amazing then camping in Yorkshire with friends which was good fun too.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/09/2019 19:56

A week in Devon and a week in the New Forest, both in our caravan. Absolutely brilliant weeks, we were blessed with the weather.

hellypad · 03/09/2019 20:01

Lake Garda, absolutely loved it and will definitely go back.

ParkheadParadise · 03/09/2019 20:02

Went to Cyprus in May for 3weeks, going back in October. We have a house there.
DH and I have been a couple of weekends away Edinburgh and Dublin.

c3pu · 03/09/2019 20:04

I'm sat on the ferry home, just spent a week at Pin Parasol in Vendée, France. It was our first trip abroad, I was absolutely shitting my pants but we had a lovely time. Weather was perfect.

Helmlover1 · 03/09/2019 20:04

Hellypad, I’m so jealous you’ve been to lake Garda, it’s definitely on the bucket list!

Sounds like some lovely holidays Smile

@hellypad We're thinking of doing Lake Garda at some point, any recommendations for things to do/places to visit etc?

We went abroad for the first time in years on a cruise to Croatia, Slovenia, Venice and Montenegro - everything we'd ever dreamed of, and after the shit we've had thrown at us this year, we decided that we deserved it!

Bluewavescrashing · 03/09/2019 20:10

Jersey. Loved it. Hotel was expensive but we had a family suite so 2 bedrooms, one with bunk beds, bathroom and hallway. Plenty of space. Indoor and outdoor pool were fab. The beaches were gorgeous and we flew direct from our home town.

highheelsandbobblehats · 03/09/2019 20:10

We did three nights camping in Brean, where it was so windy we had to take the gazebo down before it took off. When the wind and rain stopped, it was lovely and we managed two great days on the beach. This was with a good friend and her two DC as well as my two DC. No-one fell out and we all left smiling.
Then DH and I took them to the National Dive and Activity Centre just outside Chepstow to stay in one of their wigwams for two nights. The wigwams were lovely, the fire pit was novel and fun. The quarry ofgren smelled of sewage and the good onsite was mediocre at best. We had an excellent dinner at an Italian in Chepstow though for the same price. Worth going off-site for. Also explored a nearby castle with our English Heritage membership.
Finished off the holidays with 5 nights in France at a Eurocamp parc. This was our third visit to this parc. The DC stayed in the pool for hours on end, we visited Pierrefonds Chateau and Compiegne, ate a lot of baguettes and ice cream and kept the DC up until 11pm every night dancing, playing pool, air hockey etc. It was the first holiday we've done that (we've always been militant about bedtime because they needed it) as they're older now and able to cope with it. It was fabulous.

We were a bit relaxed in packing up yesterday though and browsing the Intermarche for last minute wine. And left ourselves two hours to do the 2.5 hour drive back to Calais for the ferry Blush £173 later and we ended our French adventure with a trip on the Chunnel.

*Food onsite not good. Also ofgren = often

Swishyswash · 03/09/2019 20:13

Switzerland, stunningly beautiful and stunningly expensive.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 03/09/2019 20:19

We went to Lake Garda. It is breathtakingly beautiful but unfortunately it was during the heatwave.
I love going there just to see all the beautiful towns and eat pizza and icecream all week
and drink my body weight in wine Grin

Another one for pula. Beautiful. And Australia

Campervan69 · 03/09/2019 20:22

Flying back from the Algarve right now. Weather was perfect, could always find a shady spot on the beach and there's always a lovely Atlantic breeze. It's the best place for August IMO.

khaleesi71 · 03/09/2019 20:25

We went to South Africa - amazing holiday. Daughter was getting married there so we made a trip of it. Such a fantastic place and although expensive to get there is affordable once you are. Some great experiences - Cape Town, Stellenbosh, camping in the desert, coastal walks - we'll be going to France next year because we're now broke and really looking forward to. Lovely campsite in the Dordogne I expect.

Justgivemesomepeace · 03/09/2019 20:25

Marbella. Was lovely but just not really our cup of tea. Enjoyed it but probably wont go back. Beautiful place. Too busy for us.

Bookworm4 · 03/09/2019 20:25

Olu Deniz, Turkey in May, lovely hotel, great wee town, really enjoyed it; just me and DD14.
Caravan outside Morecambe in July for 5 days, travelled about to some nice places/beaches with the dogs.
