I am so fucking unattractive on holiday.

Despite being slim and wearing fake tan, I still end up pasty when the fake tan wears off and wobbly because my legs are ugh.

I break out in an obscene amount of spots. Every. Time.

I’m allergic to mosquito bites and insect repellant does NOTHING. I currently look like I’ve gone several rounds with mike Tyson as I’m covered in golf ball swellings.

My hair is crap and I’m a sweaty mess.

And I always get the shits. Any kind of change to diet or climate and my stomach is fucked.

How do you beautiful people do it Grin

I get constipated on holiday, so as the days go on I get more and more bloated. So that's nice.

I also get cold sores in the sun, so in almost every fricken holiday pic ever taken of me, I'm sporting a lovely blister or two on my gob.

BillywilliamV · 30/08/2019 13:05

I don’t worry about it, no one knows me on holiday so it’s fine! Also, embrace your pale, it’s your friend in the end.

TapasForTwo · 30/08/2019 13:06

Maybe you could do a different type of holiday? Somewhere that is mosquito free and not a hot, beach type holiday?

I'd like to know how people keep smooth, swishy hair on holiday. Mine is mostly plastered to my face, temples and neck with sweat and the only bit that isn't is the halo of frizz on the top of my head.

Grin I know what you mean OP. We’re supposed to be all glowing and bronzed but for the first week I’m just a sweaty mess. The second week I look slightly better with a tan!

ScrambledSmegs · 30/08/2019 13:11

Spots - is it your sun cream? Some can give you horrible cystic acne, especially mixed with heat and sweat.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 30/08/2019 13:11

I know what it mean op. I get heat rash and my hair hates humidity and swimming pools.

LoseLooseLucy · 30/08/2019 13:12

I'm regularly stopped by model scouts on the beach, honestly...

ScrambledSmegs · 30/08/2019 13:13

I find that loose, natural fibres, staying in the shade, moving slowly and drinking lots of fluids, and swimming in the sea helps a lot. I wouldn't say I look good but I'm not the wilting mess I used to be any more.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 30/08/2019 13:13

@Worgust I am a fellow cold sore sufferer and use total sunblock on my lips - it helps a lot. Can go some holidays without any scabby lips!

ScrambledSmegs · 30/08/2019 13:14

But hair? Nope. My hair is fucked on holiday. I tie it back and pretend it's not there.

SummerHouse · 30/08/2019 13:17

I look terrible. I tried to french plait my hair to my head down the sides so it wouldn't stick to my face and DP said I looked like an Indian warrior. I have no tips. Only sunburn, eyebags and crap hair.

Baguetteaboutit · 30/08/2019 13:17

I go bright red on holiday despite factor 50, I'm not burning it's just my body has decided instead of sweating it'd rather flood my head with blood to cool down. Which is nice. It pairs oddly with my blonde hair that takes on its own life force in humidity. The effect of both suggests I've recently been electrocuted in a slap stick comedy.

crustycrab · 30/08/2019 13:17

I'm allergic to mosquito bites too. Use repellent with deet from camping shops and go to mosquito free countries whenever you can!

angemorange · 30/08/2019 13:17

What helps for me - getting my hair done/nails done/spray tan before I go. Huge sunglasses that hide half my face.

Putting hair up most of the time (and it's cooler!)

Going for floaty tops and black cut offs in the evening.

Kids Anti-Mozzie spray - apply before you set foot outside to keep mozzies at bay.

Rejoice that no one knows me and go make up free (apart from lippy) for a week.

Just enjoy the time with your family/friends and avoid all mirrors!

tigerbear · 30/08/2019 13:19

OP - I HEAR YOU!
Could have written your post word for word.
I’m a sweaty mess on holiday, same with the spots. My chin is bad anyway, but combined with being in the heat, it’s constantly greasy and irritated.
The only thing helping slightly is the SPF I’ve bought this year, recommended on here: Biore Watery Essence, better than anything else I’ve tried, and doesn’t seem to irritate the spots I already have and isn’t greasy.

I’m def not one of those people who look ok makeup free on the beach or next to the pool, so I hate the way I look most of the time I’m on holiday.
Legs never turn brown either, but another thing I’ve recently found which is amazing is St Tropez in shower tan. You only have to keep it on a few min (recommend longer than the 3 min they state, more like 5-6 min), so no faffing around on holiday or waiting for it to dry before getting dressed.

VanGoghsDog · 30/08/2019 13:19

I do find taking an antihistamine a day helps keep the mossie bites down a bit.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 30/08/2019 13:24

Antihistamines can take the swelling from the mosquito bites down, if you’ve not tried that.

Could the spots maybe be because you’re wearing sun cream and not washing it off properly at night? Sun cream is designed to stay on, it needs to be properly washed off, a make up wipe isn’t enough.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 30/08/2019 13:27

Also: suncream especially for face is better, rather than the body stuff. That gives me spots too. Try Clarins or Clinique facial suncream.

I don't give a shit what I look like during the day and my hair is scraped back, but I try and make a modicum of effort for the evenings. Luckily I tan so don't need a lot of make-up.

Apolloanddaphne · 30/08/2019 13:27

I don't go on beach/hot holidays any more for this reason. We are doing New England in the Fall this year. Hoping for crisp and cold but sunny days. Bliss!

VanGoghsDog · 30/08/2019 13:28

go to mosquito free countries whenever you can

I get mosquitoes in my own bedroom in the Midlands in the UK. I don't need to go on holiday for the fuckers. I constantly have an anti mossie plug in in my bedroom.

userxx · 30/08/2019 13:30

I'm also one who looks hideous when away, going on my first beach holiday with my boyfriend soon.......... he's in for a treat.

Deadringer · 30/08/2019 13:33

Beautiful people get the shits on holiday too.

hibiscus71 · 30/08/2019 13:33

Big sunglasses.
Big floppy hat.
Vaguely trendy tankini.
That's the only way I get through the summer holiday.
Oh and a glitzy beach dress that covers ALL lumps and bumps.
And I am permanently holding a cocktail.
