I am so fucking unattractive on holiday.

Despite being slim and wearing fake tan, I still end up pasty when the fake tan wears off and wobbly because my legs are ugh.

I break out in an obscene amount of spots. Every. Time.

I’m allergic to mosquito bites and insect repellant does NOTHING. I currently look like I’ve gone several rounds with mike Tyson as I’m covered in golf ball swellings.

My hair is crap and I’m a sweaty mess.

And I always get the shits. Any kind of change to diet or climate and my stomach is fucked.

How do you beautiful people do it Grin

My dd taught me how to do holiday make up in Rome. I spent the first day purple with swear pouring down my face. On day 2 she spotted a KIKO shop 😂 and she and a technician gave me a lesson and took my money

Wash face and pat dry
Sun cream. Let it dry.
CC Blur cream patted on (shuts your pores)
Face powder
Every time you feel a bead of sweat, pat with face powder
GAME CHANGER!!
Day 1 before we left the hotel we have a lovely photo of us. I looked all cheek boned and felt good. Every other photo I’m purple and my face looks swollen

Day 2 I do look like I’m ready for a night out (to MY eye) but I’m just looking matte and flesh toned!

Other brands are available 🤪

Headband for your hair! My stomach goes weird on holiday too so sympathies....not found a way to sort this yet though Hmm. Seems to be getting less sensitive as I age!

For those who get upset tummies in the heat - this lasts two years. Last time I bought it, it was prescribed by my GP but as a private prescription (it's not on the NHS but it is prescription-only) and I think it cost £40 about ten years ago.

It lasts two years but I have been fine ever since then to be honest. I used to get the squits on every holiday. I would take it again now if I was going to Asia/Africa/SA etc though.

I was going to Oz for a month, on my own, and to HK and China for 8 days, and was terrified of getting a bad tummy when I was travelling alone.

Dry shampoo in the roots of my fringe sounds like a good plan. Wish I'd thought of that!

ScrambledSmegs · 02/09/2019 11:32

QOD - that Kiko CC cream sounds amazing and I’m thinking of getting some, but I have concerns about the ‘shuts your pores’ comment. Is it comedogenic? Would CC creams give me spots?

I agree about patting with powder. I’d forgotten about it, but I have some face papers from MUJI that were a complete life-saver on holiday in Thailand about 15 years ago. Blotting with them whenever I felt sweaty (and that was near constantly, the humidity was intense) and using a clever little face brush that had a refillable powder dispenser in - also MUJI but I don’t think they sell them any more - was not only helpful for looking fresh but made me feel cooler too.

Use Clinique sun cream and don't bother with fake tan.
go to a gym well before you go on holiday and go SWIMMING, it tightens up all the muscles and makes you yummy.
for spots go to your doc and get hold of zinc/erythromycin solution, a bottle lasts 70 days and kills zits stone dead.
Only drink bottled water you have opened yourself, no salads, no fruit unless you have washed it yourself in bottled water.
Have a short haircut and wash it reasonably frequently. Stay out of the sun from 11 till 2 if you can manage it. Get docs to prescribe decent anti-inflamatory anti-histamine cream, carry it on you and apply as soon as you are bitten. Take anti-histamine pills at night, as they help you sleep, and paracetomol to reduce the feeling of itching,
try not to drink too much booze and watch out for ice-cream, it can give you the runny poohs if not properly kept.

@StanleySteamer You've just sucked all the fun out of holidays. Limited booze and ice cream? It sounds like friggin hard work to prepare for, bollocks to that!

QOD · 02/09/2019 15:32

@ScrambledSmegs 😂 I had to google that ... I’ve not had a single spot

ScrambledSmegs · 02/09/2019 19:46

QOD ah sorry! Thanks for the answer - I also read the link you sent and it says non-comedogenic Blush. Twit that I am.

HellonHeels · 02/09/2019 20:10

Limited booze and ice cream is a whole lot more fun than the raging shits user

StanleySteamer · 22/09/2019 16:39

userxx then just follow the rest and if you get ill don't blame me! HellonHeels, Quite!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 22/09/2019 16:54

This thread has made me laugh so much, I can relate to do much.
Post flight swelling, fat feet from the heat, constipation, mozzie bites everywhere, the list goes on..

StanleySteamer · 22/09/2019 16:57

For so many people the answer seems to be ... just don't go on holiday!

Or only go in the UK, where there is little chance of sunburn and the food won't give you the shits. It won't be exotic, but it won't give you the shits!!!

BaaBaaBS · 22/09/2019 17:02

Well on my honeymoon (South America, let's just say I was glad I wasn't trying to pick up a fella..

  • Hair like Monica from friends (It's the humidity!)
  • Big red sweaty face 24/7
  • Staple wardrobe of long sleeved t-shirts and weird kaki pants (I had brought lots of impractical, beautiful dresses which stayed in my rucksack)
  • Oh and yes a severe case of the shits and vomiting bug at same time. In small hotel room. With ensuite door that didn't close properly. For 3 days. New husband heard, and smelt it all
Thesuzle · 22/09/2019 17:06

What was the mosquito repellant that was talked about on here, as used by the army etc, Dove something ?? I would like to remember for myself as well..

Independentcandidate · 22/09/2019 17:17

I love a hot place as much as the next man but why do people go if they feel so rubbish? Hiking in the Alps instead maybe? Can still drink lots of beer in the evening 😉

QOD · 22/09/2019 18:52

@Thesuzle Avon skin so soft spray
