I am so fucking unattractive on holiday.

Despite being slim and wearing fake tan, I still end up pasty when the fake tan wears off and wobbly because my legs are ugh.

I break out in an obscene amount of spots. Every. Time.

I’m allergic to mosquito bites and insect repellant does NOTHING. I currently look like I’ve gone several rounds with mike Tyson as I’m covered in golf ball swellings.

My hair is crap and I’m a sweaty mess.

And I always get the shits. Any kind of change to diet or climate and my stomach is fucked.

How do you beautiful people do it Grin

I never quite understand the fake tan thing, I think it screams of cheapness and trying to hard- thats me though and I am sure it has benefits.
I suggest you relax and have a good time, If bad things happen they will happen but atleast have some fun on the way. I am sure I know this is such a lame answer but really it is true.
Also you may not think you are a 10, but I am sure you will get a lot of admiring glances when you walk on the beach

Girasole02 · 30/08/2019 13:37

First year with a pixie cut. Made such a difference to my holiday hair. Decided to give on daytime make up and went for tinted moisturiser with SPF and tinted lip balm. Hate my legs as I inherited varicose veins but it was too hot in the day to cover up so I just decided that nobody would be looking anyway and to just enjoy myself. I use factor 50 sun cream designed for small children with built in insect repellent. Seemed to work even if it went on like wallpaper paste. Had HD brows and shellac nails before I went so these looked good even when everything else was melting!

ashtrayheart · 30/08/2019 13:39

Hey I'm fat, veiny and greasy but I look around and see all shapes and sizes; the older I get the less bothered I am.

Normal day at home and my hair looks like Roxette (80,s pop star for those too young and gorgeous to remember )....normal day on holiday and Boris Johnson is staring back at me in the mirror!!! ...if only I was exaggerating :-)

ButterflyOne1 · 30/08/2019 13:42

Use a high deet repellent. I never fake tan (but saying that I go abroad monthly so I don't need it lol). Use dry shampoo and do a high messy bun.

You could use a tinted moisturiser on your face with SPF built in.

Just try to enjoy yourself. Nothing is as unattractive as a sour face lol

crustycrab · 30/08/2019 13:44

Vangogh move to Iceland. There are no mosquitoes there.

justasking111 · 30/08/2019 13:46

We once went to Margarita, amazing holiday incredible humidity. Having watched ladies beading hair on the beach on the third day I went for it. Best thing I ever did. Otherwise tie your hair back and forget it.

desperatesux · 30/08/2019 13:46

Get Glo sunscreen, its oil free so you won't break out. I am allergic to bytes too and you have to wear max strength deet, day and night and that works as they absolutely love me. I wear it in bed too as I got bitten on my face and hands after washing it off my face at night.
Hair just wash with tepid water, no shampoo as that will keep the frizz at bay, every few days use conditioner and maybe shampoo one day when you are leaving your hair wet and not drying it. I use a Dyson to dry and that does make a massive difference
Fake tan use tan organics, it gives a v natural glow, it will wear off but possible to keep using without streaks etc
I used to be like you, still am in some ways but the above have certainly helped.

Nothingcomesforfree · 30/08/2019 13:48

I got rid of the fat, had a lovely natural tan and was all ready.

Only to find I had crepey skin from the the weight loss on my arms and stomach and big old veins on my legs that come out in the heat. Whereas my plump, pale friend looked bloody marvellous.

HellonHeels · 30/08/2019 13:50

Go somewhere cool on holiday!

chesterfuckingdraws · 30/08/2019 13:51

I'm a sweaty mess on holiday! I have really frizzy hair and even though it's tied up I get a halo of fuzz!
I'm pretty fat so don't look the best in swimwear but I still wear a bikini.
I'm so white I'm almost ghostly but I do tan eventually.l so the first week or so I'm peely wally.

When I'm on holiday I just really don't care. I honestly could not care if people think I look a
Mess I know I do and I just relax.

Re your bites have you tried taking antihistamine for a week before You go on holiday and while you're away? That might help them be leas
Obvious

Loopytiles · 30/08/2019 13:53

Antihistamine tablets and cream are good for the bites.

Skip the fake tan! Pale skin is fine.

OpenYourEyes · 30/08/2019 13:53

I am right in your club OP. Along with the coldsores mentioned up thread too. So attractive.

I either braid my hair or tie it in a messy bun.

I wear mosquito repellent but end up being the only one in our party that gets bit!

HellonHeels · 30/08/2019 13:54

Other than that - floppy hat and sunglasses; long sleeves, long trousers, linen fabrics, loose clothing. Forget about tanning, stay out of the sun.

Avoid ice in drinks (potentially made with unclean water); stick to vegetarian diet. Take pre-holiday pro/pre biotics.

Get a mineral water spray, evian or similar. Spray your face, wrists.

Plug in mosquito repellent for your room.

If you want some sun, do the sunny activities (pool, sunbathing whatever) in the morning. At lunchtime, go inside, take shower, thoroughly remove all sun lotion. Put above cool clothes on and stay in the shade.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 30/08/2019 13:54

I've laughed at the images described here. Am so glad - I thought it was just me. On holiday in Florida (100 degrees plus) we went into a VERY expensive cosmetics store (to sniff - couldn't afford to do anything else), and the consultant took one look at me and pointed out ALL my flaws (there are lots of them), and how her miracle products would solve them.

What - 100 degrees, hot flushes and I'm literally drowning in sweat? I was not polite in my response.

Spingtrolls · 30/08/2019 13:55

I go away for 2 weeks. Beautiful weather. Spend most of the day and a lot of the night outside. I come back home with the beautiful tanned people. I look like I never went outside. Doesn't help I constantly look shattered.

Yes to the constipation. Have to make sure I take enough tablets with me. The cramps. The pain. The hunger but unable to eat.

I get dehydrated very quickly. So until my body gets used to the heat I am drinking loads but skin is very dry and flaky. So if my scalp which flakes, itches and gets very sore. The itching looks like I have nits.

No matter where I was in my cycle, my period would always decide to come along. Bastard.

Try antihistamine for the swelling (I buy in bulk from amazon). For the itching toothpaste is your best mate, the regular stuff.

And lol at looking for a mosquito free place. I'm in London, haven't been anywhere. Still have been bitten.

Hair tie it up. When we've finished with the pool/sea for the day I condition my hair and leave it until we are getting closer to go out. Whilst damp a bit of conditioner or serum.

delilahbucket · 30/08/2019 13:55

Can't say I look attractive at all on holiday, however I have embraced my pale skin this year and my wobbly legs, because no one else cares. I am also really allergic to mosquito bites, they blister. I've had one bite in nearly two weeks this year, and have discovered an antihistamine in Greece called bilastine which got rid of the bite in 24 hours (normally I have the marks for weeks. I use Calypso aftersun with insect repellent which seems to keep them at bay, and plug ins for the room called mosqui-go which kills them rather than repels. The bite I got was the first night in the room as the plug ins hadn't been on long enough to build up the vapour. If you do get bitten, jungle formula bite spray takes the itch right out.
Re the spots, I used to be the same. I switched to Piz Buin light suncream this year and I have not a single spot. I have the face one too.
My hair gets a bit of dry shampoo first thing and goes in a French plait. I wash it before we go out. Everyone's hair looks a mess, just go with it.
If you find bloating is an issue, don't eat bread. They serve it with everything abroad and it doesn't do anyone any favours. Make sure to eat root veg and salad as that is what we eat most of in the UK, and don't go overboard on fruit. Nothing spicy.

pumkinspicetime · 30/08/2019 13:56

Re your bites have you tried taking antihistamine for a week before You go on holiday and while you're away?
I do this as well as apply very strong insect repellent every morning.

TheresTheFlyingFuckIDontGive · 30/08/2019 13:56

I'm allergic to mosquito bites too, and the only thing I've found to work is garlic tablets. I take one a day for two weeks before I go, and take enough on holiday to take one a day there too. I still get the occasional bite but they're nowhere near as bad.

Obviously, this doesn't help you on this holiday. Just remember, nobody is looking at you - they're all worrying about their hair/skin/body.

God OP, I could have written your post, every year I think we will be my Holiday Beautiful one and every year I'm just a scruffy, sweaty looking hag.

On the bites front though ... last years I went to Kos which is full of biting fuckers and I got some great advice here which worked a treat for me. So maybe helpful for you next year Smile

  • Vitamin B12 daily for at least a week before you go then daily when there. Something to with a yeasty smell you'll emit which humans can't pick up but the buggers don't like. Goes without saying check there are no contraindications with any medication.
  • Daily antihistamine while there so if you are bitten hopefully your skin won't go as mental when it reacts.
  • I put a nice insect repellant on my legs as that's where they seemed to zone in on at night. I used a brand called Al Fresco which was quite pleasant.
  • First day in resort I bought one of the old fashioned plug in repellents and a load of the tablets. Before we left for dinner each night I'd switch it on and leave it until the following morning.

I probably got bitten 3 times in a fortnight which for me is nothing. I'm doing this every year now!

IndieTara · 30/08/2019 14:00

DEET is the only thing that works for me too.i get bite swellings that look like half a boiled egg size, itchy painful and last 2-3 weeks if I don't use DEET

Frouby · 30/08/2019 14:03

Also suffer coldsores. At the slightest tingle I slap zovirax on like lip balm and reapply through the day. Manages to usually ward them off.

Am hot, fat and sweaty too though. Hair slightly better now its long enough to tie back, when it was short by 11am I used to look like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman. No matter how funky it was before I left the apartment.

Mary1935 · 30/08/2019 14:03

Another sweaty Betty here!!! I envy the glamorous people.
Sweaty face / patchy suntan/ hair a mess!!! Lovely.
